This is such a gorgeous area to see! We came at the end of April, and the roses were beautiful and blooming. On a Saturday afternoon with nice weather, we were still able to find street parking close by. There are nicely manicured paths to follow, arched trellises all around, benches, & large trees close by that provide shady spots. You can simply stroll along enjoying the varieties, colors, & smells. I didn't see many roses with signage identifying what kind they were, which would have been nice.Groups were taking wedding, engagement, & graduation photos, so I would wait for them to clear an area to be able to walk through it. Prepare to take lots of photos of all the beauty!

Nice spot to relax and perhaps for a free simple photo shoot for a baby shower, or maternity event or family picture, since I am seeing baby announcement shoot going on now

March 31st is too early for roses as 99.9 percent of the roses were just buds. There were a few roses and a few people were picking them which is sad as this is a public park for people to enjoy. The rose garden is fairly small and inside the bigger McKinley Park. The park is big but mostly grass and on a Sunday, there were some farmer's market tents up but mostly for prepared food. There's a pond in the park but they posted warnings of toxic water that can cause paralysis and headaches. It was very dirty and full of ducks using it as a toilet. Overall, the trees were old and large and a lot of space to walk around but other than the small rose garden, this park is pretty bare. It's in a neighborhood with nice stone homes but I wouldn't want to live near a park where there's tons of smoke coming from BBQing on the park premises.

One way I know that it's full rose blooming time is when I start using the air conditioner in the year lol (am I weird? /rhetorical question). The official name of this place is Frederick N. Evans Memorial Rose Garden named after a landscape architect and Sacramento's first parks superintendent. The reason why the roses here in particular bloom with a huge bang every year is because Evans sought out planting specific rose varieties that tolerate Sac's hot summers well. Also, the garden has an oblong shape to commemorate this spot being previously a running track.Very pretty garden and you can even see some of the colorful beauty while driving on the H Street side of McKinley Park (don't get too distracted!). Being nit-picky though, there are some areas that could use some de-weeding and some of the climbing roses should be latched more securely onto the poles as they're just flailing in the wind lol (need to tame the chaos.....just a tad bit).Completely free to visit. I went on a Friday afternoon and there were plentiful available street parking spots along H Street (not sure if it's an entirely different story on weekends).

This is the biggest rose garden in Sacramento with 1,200 rose plants on 1.5 acres. It feels like a luxurious garden to stroll around in and smell all the beautiful colorful roses. I was impressed with how tall some of the rose bushes could get, almost as tall as me.The garden is great for photography as there are a lot of options for different shots. There are many palm trees and other greenery in the background, each entrance has an arched pergola, and numerous benches are scattered around. A scene in Lady Bird, the quintessential Sacramento backdrop movie was shot here.

Went here on a Monday evening (arrived around 7+pm and stayed until ~9pm) to do a photoshoot. There were 3 other groups of people doing photoshoot, some people just enjoying the park doing work and just chillin', some families walking around and some people walking their dog. It was a busy evening in the park but the Rose Garden was big enough for everyone. As it got darker and later, other slowly went home and we were the last ones to leave the Rose Garden (except there were still passerbys). The rose bushes were not as tall as me and there were some bushes with patches of no roses but you can still take good enough photos. Some of the ground had patches with no grasses too. It was just harder for us since we were just using a tripod and no one taking our photos. Some arches had no leaves at all and only 2 arches had greens and flowers. The grass was damp that evening too. Maybe they just watered the grass. Overall, it was a nice park to take photos in. I just wish there were more flowers blooming but maybe during Spring it was better. Attached photos showed lighting taken during different times while we were there.

On Sunday the 29th my boyfriend, my daughter and I decided to take a afternoon stroll around their beautiful Rose Garden! Something about a rose that I love, it's petals are just so delicate and fragrant, red roses are the symbol of love, yellow friendship and white purity! After all I named my daughter's middle name Rose! Built in 1928, it's the largest in Sacramento FYI with get this...1,200+ roses!! Friends of East Sacramento who have managed this breathtaking garden since 2012 host weddings and funerals to help maintain it's beauty! Volunteers of the community as well help to prune the roses, get rid of weeds, etc, to keep the flowers blooming! I would highly recommend taking a stroll with your special someone, my boyfriend and I will definitely be returning for a romantic date when it's just us!

I took pictures here while I waited to pick up my wife from an appointment. It was very pretty and nice. The roses and other flowers were so colorful. There was a photographer doing a photo shot and even had all his gear up. People were walking around looking at the flowers. Joggers passing by. It is really nice. There are benches every so often so you can sit and enjoy the garden. There is a lot of construction just to the North of the main building. I guess it won't be done for awhile. The entire area is fenced off. I am sure it will look amazing afterwards. So many people use this park and the area around it.

Searching for peace in a world gone crazy, I spent the afternoon at McKinley Park Rose Garden. This was my first time visiting, but surely not my last. Purchased by the city of Sacramento in 1902 and renamed after President McKinley who was assassinated in 1901. The rose garden was renovated in 1928 to include 400 plants. Each rose variety has a plaque telling who it was planted for along with what variety of rose it is. Arches around the perimeter were added. The garden is surrounded by benches too. Today, this garden holds over 1200 rose plants. The rose garden is maintained by volunteers. The newer rose plants and plants that require additional water are all hand watered. Deadheading and weeding is also performed by volunteers. The little house, with a great patio, that sits by the garden is a service building only. It would be so perfect if it could be designed into a coffee or tea house! The rose garden can be reserved for weddings, etc. It truly is beautiful.
