Located within the north end of vast Land Park, this rather large pond is a peaceful and pretty little getaway, both for children and those just looking for a little spot to space out. It is a pond filled with ducks, so you get all the pros and cons that ducks bring, but it's in a lovely corner of the park that few who don't regularly visit would know about. I'm writing this initial review during the time of COVID-19 when it's become a creative exercise to find new ways to entertain my quarantined 5-year-old. He loves animals and he loves the outdoors, so when I mentioned feeding the ducks, he lit up with excitement. There are ducks aplety here. All colors, shapes and sizes - and I'm not describing the healthy portions of poop they leave everywhere. We grabbed one of the many benches and sat there feeding them frozen peas for hours (Note: I found out bread is bad for ducks and swells in their stomach. A cheap bag of thawed frozen peas goes over just as well!). After the feeding, we wandered around the edge of the pond and found it surprisingly large. There were other folks there with kiddos, a couple joggers and the occasional napper escaping the heat in the shade of one of countless trees. If you're like me and looking for a different sort of park experience on the opposite end from Fairytale Town or the Zoo, this serene pond is one of your better options. Come enjoy one of the countless features of our Sacramento parks system!
