What a great afternoon! My sister and I went to Mastroserio Winery in Somerset and Ruggero, the owner changed my mind about wines outside Napa, most specifically St. Helena. In my opinion, the finest wines in Napa come from the St. Helena area. I am a retired cheese monger and have extensive experience with local wines because I did the pairings for many wineries in St. Helena and other parts of the Napa Valley. Honestly, I'm a bit of a wine snob. I can't help it. Once you're used to drinking fine wine it's hard to drink lower quality wines.I haven't cared for any of the wines I have tried in the El Dorado Wine Country until today. (My previous opinion was based on tastings at Iverson and Element 79.) Mastroserio Winery showed me that it isn't just the terroir that makes a great wine, the skill of the winemaker is also invaluable in the process. Ruggero was so inviting and warm. He even invited us to dine with him. Wonderful weather, wonderful company, delicious food, and REALLY delicious wine! He even treated us to a little solo jazz sax performance while we were wine tasting. I highly recommend Mastroserio wines! There were literally none I didn't care for. The only other winery I have ever said that about is Benneserre Winery in St. Helena. If you decide to go, please let him know about this review

What an incredible down to earth family vineyard that's has beautiful views, where the sun hits just right and brings out all the vibrancy's of the nature all around as if you were in Italy. They have indoor and outdoor seating options. The tastings were generously poured and the wine distinctively pronounced. Whether you are a white or red wine drinker, there is a wine here you are sure to fall in love with an affordable price. They have a live jazz band every other Saturday . A highlight was the owner brought out some homemade ravioli to our private tasting party in which every bit was savored. They also offer wood fire pizza. Loved having Roggero, the owner, come and sit with our party. The meaningful and fun conversation brought true Italian hospitality to our time.

Thank you Bridget W for this recommendation. Bridget said they have their own wood fired pizza oven. And we were looking for a wine tasting with food. So Nevada Day weekend on a Saturday we made a 1 pm tasting reservation. As we entered the tasting room to check in, Grace welcomed us and showed us our table. We came as the musicians were just finishing setting up. So for two hours we enjoyed the live jazz performance, with the winery owner on the sax. Grace started us on our tasting and put in our margarita and four seasons pizza orders. The very thin crust pizzas were made fresh to order just outside on the patio. And they were simply delicious. The wines are Italian style. We thought we would taste 3-5 wines. We were so surprised when we were offered the entire front page and the new releases on the back page. There were three white wines, 6 reds and 5 new releases. Check my posted pictures for our menu. Grace was really hopping- checking on us, pouring each wine and giving a brief description. It was the most leisure and fun afternoon. So fantastic I signed up for my first membership in over 7 years. The membership added to great find this winery was. I purchased a case of the Passione for $100. The rest of my purchase was 35% off since there were two plus cases. And I could mix and match to take home a little of almost every wine. Now I have a stock up of winter, summer, and gift wines. (Don't you wish you were on my Christmas list?). Now in January, April, July and October I'll receive three bottles. I'm really excited. As they were getting busy and trying to fill my fairly large order, I accidentally left my credit card behind. Grace called to tell me she still had it. She overheard where our next stop was and had Holly drive it to me. Oh my God, service beyond expectations. She could have just held it for me and had me come back. But wow, she had it brought to me. The tasting room/showroom has 6-8 tables for inside seating. Outside there are two different patio areas. They overlook the rows of grape vines. On this perfect fall day, the green was almost totally gone giving way to the bright orange, red, and pale brown. I'm torn - the patio view is beautiful, but the live jazz performance was incredible. Several parking areas as you approach the tasting room. Simply a fantastic find for delicious Italian style wines, ideal prices, and incredible service. You're family. Thanks Bridget !!

Picture this: A glass of a velvety Italian red.A slice of fresh margherita from the on-site pizza oven.Live jazz playing as your back warms to the sun behind you and a soft breeze blows. This is a well-spent Sunday afternoon to me. Mastroserio Winery is a hidden gem that is quickly gaining in popularity in Fairplay. It's also one of the rare places in this region with Italian varietals. The Italian owner, Ruggero, is incredibly friendly and will make you feel instantly at home. I've brought various friends here and it's always a hit. Ruggero even busted out his sax to play my friend happy birthday and is always accommodating to me with a vegan pizza option. My personal favorites here are the Teroldego, Zin, Barbera, and Passione (red blend). You can't go wrong with those. They feature a red-only wine club option, so I joined and have been very happy with what I've received for the price. If you're a fan of Italian reds, love chill vibes and great service, this is your place. Bonus if you visit on Jazz & Pizza Sundays!

Oh my! We spent 1.5 hours at this wonderful winery. Ruggero and his beautiful wife personally greeted us and shared his personal stories with us while we enjoyed the perfect pours. I have never felt so welcome and invited to learn how the wine was made, splicing of the vines, how the names of the wines were chosen, how the art was chosen for the walls, how passionate these owners are about their legacy and we even joked about child rearing and love stories. I am so glad we came upon this gem. I highly suggest you find your way to Mastroserio and soak up the hospitality and liquid perfection. Love love loved everything about this winery.

Nice spot. Good pizza. Wasn't fond of the selection of wine and their less than professional menu presentation. Diego was great. Music was good. Scenery peaceful. Relaxing spot. Not my favorite in the area for the wine.

A very pleasant surprise! I traveled to this winery with my adult children, we were pursuing a pizza recommendation from our VRBO. While they did not have pizza on this day, we were thrilled by Ruggero's surprise - live Jazz music, improvision - while we sampled their delicious wines! We have toured many wineries and never had this kind of personal welcome. We can't wait to return to this vineyard when we go back to California. Salute!

We were in the area and trying to decide where to stop. Well they had a sign on the road mentioning wood fire pizza. Sold! As you drive up the hill to the winery you can see the vineyard and that the buildings are multi level. As we parked you could smell the pizza oven going. We walked up to the tasting room and were greeted right away and the owner had his saxophone out to play some music for everyone. There are tables outside of the tasting room to relax and enjoy the scenery as well as the music. We decided on a flight each of the white and red as well as order a pizza. There are umbrellas and tarps to give you some shade. They are also dog friendly as many people brought their dogs as well as the winery dog laying around. They offer many wines made from Italian grape varietals. You can buy a glass to enjoy with your pizza. We were invited to stop at the winery for July 4th and enjoy some music and wine.

A very nice place to stop - it was the wood-fired pizza that drew us in (which was excellent) and the friendly hospitality that made it great. Ruggero obviously loves cooking pizza, welcoming guests and sharing stories. That makes it a more personal and rewarding experience. Nice wine, too! A smaller and unpretentious winery - it feels like you are visiting their home rather than a big business.

Great place, great wines. If Ruggero is playing music, even better. Good food bites as well. Try this other wine region, there is more than Napa.
