The Mariposa Museum & History Center was founded in 1957 and filled with exhibits featuring Native Americans, Spanish settlements, the Gold Rush, Yosemite, and Mariposa history.I admired the cool artifacts outside.Inside were stories and more artifacts from the old days.Great place to learn about Mariposa's past.

Forever a Mariposa staple. This museum has all of its exhibits designed to look like a small neighborhood. So many historical facts and sights, with the nicest staff. The front has artifacts as well as demonstrations on special days. The gift shop features locals and their crafts as well as the usual museum swag. Definitely takes more than one visit as there is no way you can read everything and enjoy the space in one visit.

This museum might be "small" but there is a lot of history in every single corner and every inch of the walls. Every single person -that my husband and I enountered - were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Advice:- Follow the numbers on the floor- Read everything- Do not rush or you will miss a detail.Excellet work to all who work in this museum. We will be back! :)

After having lunch at Happy Burger, stopped by here on the way to Yosemite. We didn't want to get to the gate too early and wait in line so this was a perfect place to kill time. We toured this little museum for about 30 minutes. While it's small they have packed quite a bit inside. The workers are quite knowledgeable and were able to answer questions. My 9 year old loves history and old things so this was a nice stop for us. Worth a visit if you're in Mariposa.

Fun for the whole family! Gold rush museum with historical artifacts from the area and displays set up like store fronts and rooms in turn of the century homes. Worth the $5 per adult donation. Kids under 12 are free.

So I'm torn with this review because the hours online and on the door showed open but after the thirty plus minutes it took us to arrive, it was closed lol honestly, the drive itself was gorgeous and the grounds aren't locked so we were still able to walk around the outside (hope we don't get in trouble for that, we meant no disrespect). It's right off the street so anyone can literally walk onto the property so we were still able to see a lot of really cool stuff. Outside the museum are several vintage instruments and structures scattered grounds. Each one has a plaque of what it was used for or some form of historic information attached to it. So even though we didn't get to go inside and about a dozen other people showed up before we left, each also disappointed it was closed, we ourselves actually had a good time checking it out. We hope to return again soon on our next trip up this way and check out the inside.

if you're in Mariposa, Cait should be a MUST to stop here.$5 entrance feeSmall museum but with SO MUCH history. We went as a family and we all had so much fun reading and learning, the kiddos (5 & 7) got their little book to complete. So happy with their gift at the End. Staff was so friendly and was able to give history themselves. You need to stop by!

Guessing that we'd be there for only 30 minutes, we enjoyably stayed twice as long. Clearly, the museum was better than I expected. Yes, it's still a local history museum but the exhibits are presented from varied perspectives and in differing styles including the humorous. The site contained multiple buildings including an old home and a printing press shop. $5 entrance fee.

Impressive museum packed with stories! The museum does a great job of taking you through different time periods and illustrating life during those times with reprinted letters, articles, photos and artifacts. Really impressed! The volunteers are welcoming and helpful. Don't miss the outside grounds that have lots of mining and some farm equipment. Definitely a place for Mariposa to be proud of
