The Downtown area of Martinez has always been an enigma to me. It's the County seat, has a colorful history of City governance, has an established downtown area that has its ups and down, and features the Marina Waterfront Park often seems to be hiding in plain site as a scenic place to do a lot of fun things. Lots of my friends at work swear by the bocce here, while some of us remember the restaurant that used to be at the Marina, and the pre-COVID festivals within this park's expansive grounds. This was also one of the close-by Martinez places to go for a lunch-time walk.Gayle and I were here yesterday to go for a nice walk near and around the shore. It was a beautiful day and with not a lot of people around. We stayed away from the pier where there was the largest group of folks, so we walked off to the left (facing the water) and swung around in a nice loop. Parking was easy and if you wish, take the train to the Martinez Station and make the short stroll over.

Just went here for the first time today and it was pretty cool for my son. 2 different playgrounds, with 5 slides, various apparatus to play on. Do i recommend coming here, sure, but try coming in the morning when its not as busy and make sure to bring extra clothes, the slides are pretty wet here in the morning.

Something for everyone here. Bocci courts, as a matter of fact, biggest bocci league in California! 3000 members play every week! (I am one of them):). Also 4 baseball fields. Horse arena. Playgrounds, BBQs, Areas to walk. A skate park. Beautiful views. Boat ramps down by the bait and tackle store. Yaught club for the kids. The marina/waterfront park is must if you have never been there and a regular destination for us.

I love the waterfront in Martinez. Yes, there are some undesirables that congregate and over stay their welcome. Aside from that, it is a good place to fly a kite, fish, take a boat trip, or watch fireworks for the 4th of July. What did I learn today? A great day for a walk in Walt November.

This park is beautiful and HUGE!!!* Tons of grassy, open spaces. * Numerous baseball/ softball fields. * Restrooms. * Kid's play area with jungle gyms. * Picnic areas with tables & bbq pit access. * Parking lots and street parking available. * Batting cages/ training facility on site (Universal Sports Academy). * Some sort of fishing shop too, or at least I think that's what it was. * Lots of different events are held here. Only issue we've ever had here was with the train. Since the entire entrance is centered at a railroad crossing, if a train is passing, rolling slowly, or stuck on the tracks, you could be blocked inside the park for quite some time.

Was here for a softball tournament. They had an event going on and it was hard to find parking. The softball fields were rough with clump-like dirt and deep holes in the batter's box. The bathrooms were re-stocked often. They food was really good and tons of options at the concession stand. Ice chests and food allowed in also. Recommend bringing a canopy.
