Fishing folks go here to fish and chill. Months of February-April the government would release fish (trout during these months)for the birds and humans alike. It's not much of a walk from the parking lot to the reservoir but do wear comfortable shoes. There's no benches and the restrooms are far apart. We had to bring a tent for the kiddos so they can shelter from the cold... it's crazy windy here... know where those windmills in Livermore? It's near the place with a reason! People come early for the perfect fishing spot. Nice place to relax, do bird watching and hopefully hook some fish to bring home.Entrance to the reservoir per person is $6. License to fish is now 17 @Walmart.

Long time customer, but recently moved to Oregon. I was in town to visit friends and had to come back to fish here for old times sake.Staff is the best. Our boat broke down and they had the staff come out and exchange our boat.Although we didn't have any luck, we enjoyed out time out on the water.5 stars for the best staff and great fishing lake!

This review is of the new boat rental rules stated on the contract. I've been fishing this lake since I was 10 years old. It used to be a one of a kind recreation but sadly it has changed for the worse. Apparently now you are only allowed to anchor the rental boat no less than 100ft away from shore. When you are over 100ft from shore the patrol boat shows up at full speed, scaring all the fish away, and then tells you you're too close to shore and have to move. As a trout fisherman that loves bait fishing this makes it nearly impossible. At this lake if you are 100ft from shore or more you will not be able to fish the backs of coves like all trout fisherman love to do and will have an extremely difficult time anchoring in deep water. I will no longer rent boats from Los Vaqueros because of this new rule. Plenty of other lakes around that allow you to fish the backs of coves. Sad to say but this is the new reality at this lake.

Such a great spot to visit. Sweet fishing hole. Absolutely breathtaking views, and the fishing here is real deal!Even the rookie fishers can nab one the way the fish are biting here. The reservoir is big and open. Plenty of places to park and fish. You can rent a boat if you come early enough. The Reservoir opens at 7am. Parking is $6 plus $6 per person for fishing. They provide daily fishing license for purchase if needed. At 7am People are already arriving buying boats. We arrived at around 8:15ish. The boats were sold out by approximately 9 when we went to look and scope around the area. They offer a great selection of amenities. They have a good little bait store. The hiking trails seemed gorgeous from a far, and they had bbq sections with benches and picnic tables. Seats and benches around the whole lake to enjoy the views or just sit and enjoy the day.

What's not to like in this calm, cool reservoirs up in the mountains where you can kick back and fish all day? This place is excellent, and away from traffic. The windmills on the east side provide a nice backdrop, and boats can be rented or brought in. Hiking trails and picnic spots abound near the visitor center, where a kind fellow showed me everything on a map. The two mile drive from the property gate to the main area is dotted with little turnouts complete with their own toilets to spread out the fishing activity lest the fisherman congregate too closely. Great picnic spot. Will come here with my family when I make one.
