An often overlooked WINE COUNTRY near the SF Bay Area. Livermore refers to itself as the oldest wine region in California! It's also the gateway to the Central Valley as well. A good amount of effort has been put into downtown. If you are a vino or just a Wine fan, Livermore is a great destination to visit with plenty of wineries to visit! "Founded in 1869, Livermore is California's oldest wine region, framed by award-winning wineries, farm lands, and ranches that mirror the valley's western heritage. Located in Alameda County, the City of Livermore (pop. 91,411) encompasses 26.44 square miles and is the easternmost city in the San Francisco Bay Area; the gateway to the Central Valley. Protection by the coastal range provides the Livermore Valley with a mild climate that enhances the pursuit of a more relaxed, less congested lifestyle."Stolen from...https://www.cityoflivermore.net/about/default.htm

More liver? No. Livermore? Yes.I've been a handful times, and I'll go several more. I like it. It's developed into a nice wine country and features a nice little quaint Downtown. If you can't get to Napa, this will give you a fix. They have street parades and holiday festivals along with a wonderful farmers market Sunday mornings and seasonally Thursday nights.Things to do: 3.5/5Safety: 4/5Cleanliness: 4/5PLACES TO STAY:============== There needs to be, but isn't a bonafide nice hotel in the downtown or wine country area. However, off the freeway, there are Livermore-esque chain hotels: Hilton Garden, Home2 by Hilton, Courtyard, etc.TOP WINERIES IN THE LIVERMORE REGION:====================================There's over 50 wineries in Livermore! Yes! I love Wente, but there's others to explore (and sip): Concannon, Retzlaff, Page Mill, Nottingham Cellars, Darcie Kent Vineyards, Ruby Hill, Steven Kent, and more.LOCAL EATS:===========* Sauced BBQ, Range Life, Demitris Taverna, First Street Alehouse, Rebel Kitchen, The Last Word, Star Anise , Lemongrass Thai, Zephyr Grill, among others.

Livermore is an unpretentious kind of place. Technically, it's a cow town, literally smelling of it. You know you've left hipster spots like SF, Oakland&the Wine Country for the Central Valley. You go thru wind farms, rolling hills, the Sacramento Delta. It's a bucolic place. The countryside has a stark gorgeousness to it. The Central Valley was formed by the "Great Valley Sequence" that was akin to the Midwest, so there is that feel.Interesting trivia- Robert Livermore, whose name graces the city, is buried in the floor of Mission San Jose in Fremont. He passed away a decade before the 1868 Hayward quake, yet somehow his grave was properly found&located. Yes, there was a real Livermore, and you can find his final resting place.

My favorite town to hang out in in this area. I live 15 miles away in mountain house but come to Livermore often. I love the surrounding wine country and the unpretentious winery vibe that is so much more fun than Napa. The downtown still has that old school charm that just makes you want to hang out and watch a scene that refreshingly makes you feel like you aren't in the Bay Area. Very safe city as well and very clean. Obviously a community people are proud of and run very efficiently.

JoAnn at the City Building or Planning department was OVER THE TOP AMAAAAAZING!!! We have been a family of builders on the Northern California Peninsula for over 100 years and Joann is BY FAR the best educated, knowledgeable City employee we have EVER encountered! JoAnn should be the "role model" for ALL city employees to mimick as far as customer service and information goes!!! We just moved here from South Santa Clara County and bought a house with a "few" issues and Joann was able to work with us on options about how we can go about making our house the best it can be!!! We can not thank JoAnn enough for her kindness during this process and for all of the information she was able to give us!! Thanks again!!

Overall, Livermore is OK. It does have a nice downtown and some good restaurants. Along with its many vineyards/wineries, Livermore has rolling hills on three sides, which gives it a unique look and feel. The somewhat remote location makes commuting to other parts of the Bay Area a pain in the butt. As for the climate, it's nice except for the long and very hot summers.

I have lived here for over 2 years. Generally speaking, Livermore is a good, clean, safe city. The summers are just too hot for my liking, though. Looking forward to moving to a cooler climate.
