Cool little spot to hang out, hike, fish, or bbq. Small little area but quite comfy and relaxing.

Lake Herman is an eerily peaceful spot, along with surprisingly sloped Lake Herman Road. It's a quiet lake in what could be called "coastal plain",where the Vaca Mountains of the eastern Napa Valley meet the Central Valley. The road is steep&windy, feeling like the middle of nowhere once one has left Vallejo. At some points on Lake Herman Road, one can see the remnants of the Benicia Ghost Fleet.Lake Herman Recreational Area, for a city park, is well-maintained. Compared to the nearby road, the lot is well-paved. For true crime buffs, Lake Herman is an epicenter for unsolved mysteries. It does have a ghostly atmosphere, even if one doesn't believe in the paranormal. Its quietness is disconcerting.Be aware that there is a tick issue. Go for the clean restrooms&nice lot, one can have a pleasant view of the reservoir. Other than that, Benicia does have better&more accessible parks.

This lake area has potential but misses the mark. There is a nice walk along the lake, although short. And some hiking up in the hills. However there isn't much you can do by the water except fish. Lots of fisherman here. I wish there was a nicely kept area for picnics by the water.

Pretty disappointed with this 'lake'. I went here because the website made it sound like you could walk around the lake. However, theres only a partial trail that lead down one side and the to a park and neighborhood. Went early for a Sunday run and there was trash strewn all over the parking lot and the port o potty smelled very foul from 20' away. I will say that the parking was free and it appears you can do some fishing. But not recommended for more than a small stroll

Heed the tick warning from others!! After first reading the reviews I though to myself that they were just a bunch of city dwellers complaining about the first ticks they ever saw. Boy was I wrong. After a five minute walk all 3 of us in my group were covered in ticks (20+ inside my shirt). I won't return to this location. Also, no boats, not even canoes or kayaks.

Counted over 50 ticks on myself and my hiking partner. There were no warning signs whatsoever and now I know why no one was there except to fish. Definitely never coming back here and burning all my clothes from the hike. Probably gonna have tick nightmares for days.

I was pleasantly surprised with Lake Herman. I wasn't sure what to expect. I almost did not come here after reading the reviews. I think this place is unfairly underrated. The view is beautiful. There is a pretty decently paved trail that wraps around some parts of the lake and benches along the way to take a rest. I was able to walk down the trail with my son in his stroller. We sat among the grass and had a picnic. I would definitely recommend.

I sort of stayed in the Parking Lot since I was not familiar with the Park layout. There is sort of a homeless-people-just-hanging out problem, here, , regarding which, in my opinion, it seemed some of them would insert "Zodiac voice acting bookmarks" within the thread of their conversation to make their wanting money appear "larger than life." Then, at some point, one of them will come up from their spot by the Lakeshore to "just inquire if you're quite all right?"You are if you wanna be.And I don't mean that as a complaint, at all, just a unique take on the parking lot, unofficial, Off Action Setting, going down, here, if one "just chose" to look at it that way. There's nothing really wrong with sitting in the parking lot by one's car and wondering, if one likes, in a semi loud tone, how the Zodiac came to be a homeless guy and his gal, Off Action, Side Action, workout, in which all you need to know, really, is that homeless people at Lake Herman might wish the Case was filled with money.I just kind of hung out in the parking lot and had a different sort of Epiphany or Take on how all that "can work" when you have an unique viewpoint on something like the Zodiac and Acting.

Just parked here to take my dog out, when I got here there was talk of ticks. I watched 2 women taking off their shirts and picking ticks off each other. I asked them about it and they said their dog just gathered about 50 ticks from their ON TRAIL, ON LEASH walk, and each woman said they had about 15-20 they had found on themselves so far. We promptly left. There were no signs about ticks in the parking lot or trail head, which is reckless on the part of parks department. Don't go here.
