Kovalam Restaurant

While I was visiting Tracy--where my girlfriend is from--we decided to check out Kovalam since she had really liked it after trying it earlier. Even though the restaurant is located inside of a grocery store, there is seating at the side of the building in front of where you order. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded when we came so we were able to find seats pretty easily here.For the food I decided to order the Chicken Chukka along with the Kerala Paratha. After taking the first bite I understood why she recommended this place, as the flavors were very forward and delicious. The spices added gave the chicken a depth of flavor, while the Paratha was super crispy and light. The chicken combined with the Paratha is also great, and the portion sizes here are pretty good as well.I highly recommend stopping by here if you find yourself in Tracy for authentic Kerala food!

This review is for the restaurant within the supermarket. Great little place that serves good South Indian food. We tried the dosas and they were wonderful. The lady serving the food is kind and upfront- she told us how much to order without getting too much food. The dosas were fresh. The accompanying items- coconut chutney, sambar, etc were all great. We ordered fish cutlets- these did not seem to fresh and we ended up having to leave it behind. The masala chai was fantastic. The restaurant is along the side of the inside of the supermarket. It's clean and well maintained. I would recommend this place for a casual Indian food fix!

This spot is nestled inside Kovalam Indian Groceries, cleverly set apart yet within the store. We opted for Masala Fried Chicken, Fish Fry, Goat Peralan served with Kerala Porotta and Idiyappam, and Chicken Biryani. While the Masala Fried Chicken was flavorful, it seemed to have artificial coloring added, which could be skipped. The Fish Fry was marinated and cooked to perfection. Trying the Goat Peralan was a delightful surprise; the masala was particularly tasty. Goat is partly chewy, it would have been better softer. The Kerala Porotta was a bit greasy. The Chicken Biryani, adorned with dry fruits and nuts, leaned towards a sweeter side, but the accompanying pickle was a highlight. Definitely don't miss the pickle--it's fantastic. Overall, the meal was delicious but a bit oily, with oil seeping onto our plates. It might be worth considering reducing the oil usage.It's self service style, you order and pick it up and take to your table. Also, note that there aren't high chairs for kids at this restaurant.

Great authentic Kerala food! Ordered there and to go , figured only chance I get to try everything. Hard to find! Highly recommended.

We stoped by this restaurant on our way back from Tahoe. We loved the fish curry and the kerala rice. It's very authentic...... would recommend for anyone who crave for an authentic kerala food...

The food was worth the money ! The service was impeccable! The chef was very friendly and made us feel right at home ! If you enjoy South Indian food , you must definitely visit Kovalam Restaurant!

Food here is delicious.We keep coming back here for their chicken biryani.The best yet that I have tasted.I'm glad we have this place at Tracy.Service is great.

Excellent Food and service with a smile. This food is delicious and authentic. Drive from Pleasanton multiple times to have their food - a must try. Parathas are soft and light, the beef fry and chicken Roast is fantastic.

We had porotta, beef peralan, and mutton biryani. This was by far the best porotta beef we had in Bay area. The quality of meat was excellent. Very reasonably priced too!

Amazing food as always. I'm pretty much hook on it specialy there biryani chicken. Love it. I always support Tracy local businesses.
