I was just bebopping around the Sierra foothills on a lazy weekend day this past summer. I was in Jackson, CA, driving around. I happen to drove out to the Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park. Admission and parking is FREE. The park is created around the remains of the Kennedy Mine's Tailing wheels. The city even threw in a section for a dog park, but that area is a sad dirt patch with no shade. The main attraction of the park is the glass enclosed tailing wheel #4. It's 68 feet in diameter with 178 buckets. Quite an impressive sight. The Kennedy gold mine operations ran from mid 1850s through 1942 (the government shut down the operations to focus on due WW II efforts). The original wheels were located up the hill closer to the mine operations and moved to the park for display. The whelks were reassembled and laid out in reverse order. Wheel #4 is the only wheel restored. A portion of the financial assistance came from the local community. Awesome. Wheels 1 and 2 are across the street on the Kennedy mine property, not much of it is left. The Kennedy mine is now a tourist attraction. You can walk across the street to view wheels 1 and 2. They're viewable from afar behind the fence. Not much to look at though, just crumbled aged pieces of wood. Wheel #3 is near wheel #4. That wheel is also in disrepair and falling apart, but somewhat better condition than 1&2.Behind wheel #4 is Indian Gulch. That's the area where the mine waste carried from the tailing wheels ended up. In 1914, a dam was built so the mine waste was impounded to the dam basin. Another thing is the park is not flat and has slight elevation, and the strolling paths are not paved and have steps. The sights are viewable from the pave sidewalk/roadway. Amenities: restroom, picnic benches, strolling path shaded in areas by old Oak trees, and dog park.

1/18/20 - I let my 16 year old take control of the wheel and we ended up in Jackson. We accidentally stumbled upon Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park (aka the Kennedy Gold Mine from the 1850s). It has a nice view of an old dam and this gigantic wheel. Very cute and clean parK.

GREAT PARK FOR BOTH HUMANS AND DOGS! My mom and I were visiting from the Bay Area and wanted a place to have lunch. We drove by this little gem and am glad we decided to stop. There are 4 trailing wheels (we only visited #3 and #4) which you can drive up in our car in or hike up. The hike is not too strenuous or long (my elderly disabled mom was able to walk it up) and you can either go on the paved road or well marked road that are little rocks but very safe. The park is also very clean, provides water fountains and very comfortable bathrooms. We had also gone crazy trying to find the dog park that other Yelpers had identified in other posts, but it turned out to be here! It's slightly hidden behind bathrooms and you won't see it from road but it's here! It's not separated into small/big dog parks, just one big one but it has ample shade and drinking water/dish for doggies. I was here for a total of 4 hours and 2 sets of dogs came in to play. Owners and dogs were really friendly and I will definitely be coming back next time we're in Jackson. :)

Amazing experience. I've lived in this city for nearly 22 years, and have never been to the Kennedy Tailing Wheels Park. I recommend checking it out. The view(s) are also quite amazing. You could literally see Butte Mountain and the Dam in the background. It's amazing.

Nice to find a clean, friendly dog park so that I can meet others in the area and so can Ramsey. We've visited two of the three in the area and this one seems to be the best on dry days. No grass so be warned that when it rains it tends to become a mud bog.

I've been there a number of times with my son's pugs, but we've always been the only ones there. Yelpers, tell your friends. This place is new and not well known, and we need to get more people using it. It's the only one in the county, and dog owners have been asking for this for years.

A friend and I took our dogs there yesterday - it was my first time going to a dog park so I have nothing to compare it to but we all had a good time. It's a small, shady, grassless area that wraps around a hillside, a little longer than I could throw a tennis ball so the dogs got some good runs in. It's clean with one picnic table, water station, poop bags, garbage can & that's it. It would be nice if there were some grass and Yelp listed the name correctly (Tailing not Trailing), but maybe that's what's helping to keep it undiscovered.
