We happened upon the Japanese Garden when coming to the zoo next door. What a beautiful and tranquil garden to walk around. Around the garden is a pond with Koi fish, rose garden and huge trees to sit under if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. I bet it's even more beautiful when the roses are in bloom. We will definitely be back.

It's not San Francisco but it's better than nothing and the best part it's free to the public. A portion of the garden is more roses and such so not much of the Japanese type trees/flowers if you are looking for that. The other part of the garden there is a Japanese style house. And there is a pond with an abundance of koi fishes, please remember not to feed the fishes. We saw a family where the parents encouraged their child to feed the fish, of all things chocolate . Don't be that parent. On another side of the pond there was a rock pathway where the older kids (4 and up could walk across) it's pretty neat. A 3 y/o may be able to walk across too but a two y/o you may want to keep an eye out bc you don't want them to fall Into the pond. There's an open area where you can take some really nice photos as well.

Such a cool koi pond in the middle. And feels like you just took a portal to japan and walk through a garden like you're there. The water was a little low when we went in November 2019

The Japanese garden was 3 star. It's smaller than expected and you can easily walk around in less than 10 minutes. Highlight of the garden were the big koi fish. It was the memorial weekend and they charged us $10 parking. I inquired at the entrance about the high cost. Usually it's $6, they said it's special holiday even though it was Sunday and memorial day was on Monday. Not worth it if you plan to go for the Japanese garden only. And the Japanese garden opens on certain hours. Tea house is located in the heart of the garden. It was closed. Overall it's a nice place to walk around.

Ivy R's review inspired me to visit this garden. I doubt I would have wandered to this part of Lodi if I had not read it.When you pass through the garden gate it is like going into another world. It was so quiet the only sounds I heard were chirping birds and chattering squirrels when I walked in. There are numerous stone lanterns, flowering plants and cherry trees. A red bend bridge crosses the pond that is home to very large koi. Ancient towering Valley oaks surrounded this small beautifully maintained garden. I would suggest that you bring mosquito repellent. The blood suckers were annoying in April; I imagine that they would be unbearable later in the year. Do check the hours, the garden is not open all day. It is also a popular wedding site and the garden is closed to the public when there is a wedding in progress.

I feel like Mickey Grove Park has lost its appeal as of last few decades, It is seemingly the same park that I can remember from when I was a kid. However, deep in the center between the zoo and the baseball field lies the hidden gem that is the Japanese garden. I know many people like myself can complain about the hours that its open, but when you do finally get in there is so much beauty that the little section holds still. The Japanese garden still is almost booked up for weddings for a reason. It really does take me back to when I was a kid skipping across the red bridge just to be surrounded by the koi pond. Th is ageless wonder still has so much beauty to behold. With the same waterfall the leads to the great koi pond that's broken up by the stone steps that lead you to the other side. All the trees that surround you that seclude you from the rest of the park. This really is a place to be treasured and visited often.

My wife and I decided to scout this Japanese Garden for some friends of ours. While my expectations were low, it was actually somewhat of a surprise to me. The best thing about the Japanese Garden is the beautiful vistas of the Gozei (red lacquered arch bridge) in verdant surroundings.
