i believe this business is closed. Stopped by a month ago and had for lease signs up.

I came in and got a front sight put on an antique Winchester 1894. Matt was professional and quick. He a sight that fit I uninstalled it while I waited. While I was there he also took a look at a Spencer carbine that I picked up recently and helped give me an idea on the value of it. I have heard that he is very busy which usually means that the work is quality. Wow my needs were very simple on this visit, I was 100% satisfied with the service

After a LONG week I went out to the shop to get my gear ready for training this weekend. I thought this would be an excellent chance to put on & try out the new sights on my gun. As I was installing the rear sight my tool broke.I got on the internet & found a gunsmith listing in Stockton & as luck would have they're open Saturdays. The doors opened promptly at 9am - Matt took my slide went to the back & installed the rear sight, as well as giving me a few pointers to ease my future installs. I got out my wallet, how much - Don't worry about it. Me ahhhhh c'mon you just pulled me out of a huge jam - Don't worry about it, come see me when you have a bigger job.. This guy just saved my trip to Nevada + vacation days & training costs.. Go see Matt Houston - You don't find service like this even in the ultra-friendly shooting community.. S.A. Kay

Matt really knows his stuff! He's the best in the business. Big time thumbs up!! He has done everything from pistol work to custom rifle work to accessory recommendations for me. He does top notch work and builds beautiful custom guns! Matt is also an accomplished authority on long range rifle shooting. You'll be amazed at how much knowledge he has to share in that arena!! I recommend him to everyone I know.

I came in today with an over under shotgun with the action stuck shut. Seriously stuck. He fixed it for me on the spot in 30 seconds. He didn't charge me at all. I will definitely come here again. Thanks!

Did a PPT there in and out and no long wait time. I will say Matt is a man that truly cares about the experience his customers receives

At the time, I was new to guns. Bought a used Marlin 60 .22 rimfire rifle. I shot first tube of magazine and from the first two rounds fired, I had FTE. I was thinking I was having problems with the ejector/extractor, so I decided to take it to Matt for service. He disassembled the entire trigger group and for two weeks, I didn't hear anything from him. Long story short, I was able to get a hold of him and he told me he disassembled the entire trigger group and that reassembling it was not worth the time or for what the rifle is worth...that it'd cost more in labor to reassemble the trigger group than what the rifle is worth. So he told me I can come pick it up. I showed up to his shop and he returned the rifle and a zip-loc bag of the disassembled trigger group (see attached picture). WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVEN DISASSEMBLE THE TRIGGER GROUP IN THE FIRST PLACE, KNOWING THAT YOUR LABOR TO PUT UT BACK TOGETHER WOULD COST MORE THAN THE RIFLE?!?! Yeah I know it's just a Marlin .22 rifle, but if he knew it'd be a hassle to mess with a cheap gun, then just tell me straight up that you won't accept the job and be done with!!!F-ing IDIOT !!!

Super friendly, great service and amazing pricing! I had a live round stuck in my S&W M&L 15 sport 2. He got it out in 15min or less and was as gentle with my rifle as possible when pulling a stick round and didnt scratch my rifle at all. He then tol me my problem and gave me great info for my reloading so I dont get another stick round! He only asked for $25! I told him that's not enough he should charge me $100. He said NO, how about 50 that's more than enough. I said no and I insisted he charge me the $100 for dealing with a stuck live bullet! He finally accepted the $ and took my debit card! I be back any time I'm in need of a gunsmith and I will highly recommend him to everyone!

Matt built me a .204 varmint rifle. Sure, it took some time as does fine wine. Best gun i have ever shot, plus it really shoots well over 100 yards plus.

I went to this shop based on the reviews. I cannot say what kind of gunsmith Matt is, he never got to my guns. I dropped off in late September, early October 2014. He said it would be a few weeks. I left him alone until early January 2015. When I called he said he had been busy but that he would be done by the end of the week. Today, February 11, 2015 and the job still was not even started. He said there were guns that had been waiting longer than mine! Picked up my gun and will go elsewhere. If you want your guns fixed in time to pass them on to your children on your deathbed then I guess this would work but if you want them back in a reasonable amount of time go elsewhere. Maybe this post will allow him to be less busy and get guns fixed faster....
