Hogback Island Access

Porta Potty only , bring your own soap , water, sanitizer , toilet paper. ( toilet paper provided , just incase it ran out bring your own ) Boat launch ramp , plenty of parking . I didn't see anyone working at the booth to collect payment for entrance fee. ( A friend did mention to go online to pay ) Facing the park to the right hand side . Most of the BBQ pit & bench style table and chairs has plenty of shade or some shade and has access to the water by means of someone prior creating a walkway path to the water . The left hand side stayed sunny all day and not accessible to the water . I saw some people swim and kids frolicking in the water . Some pole fishing off the side and a few from their boat. I saw motorized boats, jet skis and inflated boats too . I personally wouldn't let my kids swim in these waters, Doesn't look very clean kinda mucky . I highly recommend anyone in the water need to wear a life vest . No life guards.

Boat launch, spaced out picnic areas with plenty of tables and each having their own grills! Bring your volleyball net and ball, bring your Frisbee, bad-mitten, soccer ball or a football and surly don't forget your water toys! Big grassy area to play an outdoor game of choice. I'd advise to also grab your easy-up too! The beach areas are fairly small are mostly located right in front of the picnic table areas, kinda like for use of that family to use and not necessarily big enough for sharing with other groups. So that's why in a picture I posted, I mentioned that the beach areas are intimate. 365 days a year its a self-payment kiosk. Grab a permit payment envelope and put your $5 (car), or $10 (boat) fee in and you'll be on your way. Weather you want to BBQ with family & friends and do some fishing or relax under the mature trees and read a novel whilst the kids are swimming, Hogback is the perfect spot. During the summer the place can get quite busy. Hogbacks waterways are along the levee of the Steamboat Slough. The current can at times be swift and be aware of boats, jet skis and kids at all times. Get there early, as its first come, first served. Trash cans are throughout, please pick up after yourself. There are no services here. Porta potties for restrooms. I did not see a water spicket anywhere either.To get their from Antioch (west) follow HWY 160 signs, cross over the Isleton Bridge (half yellow and half cement color), follow 160 (take a right), down the road a bit and take your 1st left turn onto Poverty Rd, then a left again onto Walker Landing Rd. Once you reach Grand Island Rd take your last left. Follow along the levee about 3-4 minutes and then you'll see Hogback on your right.Oh and bring your kite! Parking lot is perfect on a windy Delta afternoon! Pets allowed as long as they are leashed at all times.

Pretty good spot to fish. Parking is free right now but I am assuming $5 fee will be back once the warmer season comes. Looks clean, but they need more porta potty. Will be back there soon...

wonderful area for a picnic. there are many tables in the large tree and lawn area. boat launching and bank fishing. we took our folding picnic table because we weren't sure if we could use the tables there due to the pandemic. they were open and many ppl were using them.

Went for a dinner picnic with the family just before sunset. After a nice drive through the scenic delta, enjoyed a beautiful summer evening next to the water and had the place almost to ourselves. Not a lot here, but plenty of grass, with small beach areas for sitting by the water watching the sunset and wading in. It was a weekday, and since we were later in the day, most of the boaters were gone and so it was peaceful. I imagine it would be a different scene in the middle of the day on a weekend. A nice get away just a short drive from Sacramento.

Im mainly a shoreline fisherman but this place has great access to the river and a small creekside where u can launch your boats from. The hyacinth & vegetation do go out of control sometimes so do be careful; its overgrown throughout some areas and makes it harder for boats to go through and it's mostly in the summer season where its overgrown the most. Good fishing for bass, mostly largemouth but was pleasantly suprised when i hooked a smallmouth here. Other than that, caught a few keepers here on the creekside as well. (Largemouth bass) There's a small amount of crappie in the deep vegetation, bluegil near the treeline n dock area however the bigger ones are located near and with the seaweed in the middle of the creek. Sadly, I believe the most of the bluegil may have been fished out, still here though. I also believe carp may have spawned here once a long time ago due to the residing carp population, you'll literally see a few jump out of the water every 45-1hr. Moreover, the smaller fishes here include, perch although rare now, strangely a small family of albino oscars ( gf hooked one not too long ago but it got away) and your normal everyday goldfishes but bigger, also rare but you'll see them attack ur lure if it's small enough. Then on the Riverside will be mainly stripers but you'll get a lot of jet skiers so fishing success there is a bit less but still plausible; would suggest u fish near the rocky side. Caught a few stripers there once, big and small. Other than that, it's a good place for family hangouts, it's spacious, tree cover, a grill station, benches and the park staff is rather friendly as long as you don't turn it up too much. Otherwise she'd call the Rangers/sherif and they really do show up; in th end, its a good place, for family hangouts, fishing or really just relaxing and hanging out with your friends. I recommend it.:D

The launch is 5 stars unless there is hyacinth in the water and in the summer they do not do a good job of keeping it under control. It grows out of control clogs both boat launch ramps. Then vehicle drive over and over the dead hyacinth creating a muck on the ramp that makes it slippery and difficult for vehicles to pull boats out. The county needs to do a better job of keeping the hyacinth under control. We pay fees to use this site so use the fees to maintain the boat ramp!

Did not launch from Hog Back, but checked it out from the water. Nice day use areas, but not many great spots to get to and from jet skis. Boat launch ramp was full of floating plants. Large submerged tree across opening to boat launch. Ok for PWC but would be cautious launching larger boat.

Checked this place out with directions from google maps. Maps lead us to a wrong location. The maps took us to a wedding venue mansion. When we finally arrived at Hogback is a bunch of picnic tables by the water. People were eating at the tables and fishing. It is not very big. It is a nice little spot. Probably not worth it to visit if you live out of the way. Better if you are already camping or fishing near by. It is a quiet area that seems like it could be a little sketchy on a quiet day. They have port potties which are super stinkly with flies all around.

Visited this place to fish with my family! It was clean, quiet, and very enjoyable. Parking was close by and only had to pay $5 for parking. Bathrooms are near by as well. We will be back soon, the kids had a blast!
