Hap's Bait

On our summer trip to the Delta, I ducked in here for a little bait. The store seemed a bit empty-- not the usual eclectic collection of gear squirreled away in bins and shelves. Some tackle lined the walls, along with a few freezers containing frozen anchovy, sardine, lamprey, shad, and assorted invertebrate bait.I approached the counter and Sharon helped me out. They were "out" of regular bloodworms, and only had jumbos, apparently. For a considerable mark-up, I ordered a dozen. She hand picked them from a large bin, and having fished with blood worms my whole life, there didn't seem to be anything jumbo about them from my experience.Either way, I paid for my bait, bout a small styrofoam bait cooler for a couple days camping to keep them alive, and out the door I went. I think I paid a few cents extra for using my card, but after dropping $30 on a dozen bloodworms and a couple bags of frozen 'chovy, what's the difference?Shrugged it off as a vacation expense, and used that bait to catch hundreds of fish... sure, only one of them was legal, but had a great time in Rio Vista proper, and will likely return in the future for fun on the Sacramento River.

I like this funky little fishing store. Friendly, helpful advice and decent prices for name brand gear (Silverton, Mepps Flying C) that actually work and saves the time and expense of going all the way to Fairfield, Lodi or Antioch for off-the-wall lures that don't work.

Nice, old school style bait shop located in Rio Vista on the Sacramento River. I stopped in not looking for bait but to ask about fly fishing in the area. I didn't get any info (hey, it was worth a shot) but seriously if they were to review me as a customer I'm sure the one star review would start like this; "So this guy comes in to our BAIT shop to ask about fly fishing...." Really cool, old school type bait shop, exactly the kind of place that you'll find up and down the coast and throughout the delta with all the fishing info that you could possibly need. Unless of course if you're a fly fisherman. But they do sell beer and that is something that all fisherman regardless of what method you choose to employ have in common.

I have used Hap's Bait Shop as a U-Haul location for two different moves. The service behind the counter is friendly, professional, and efficient. For both moves, I did not have to wait long to receive or return my truck, and for this recent move they even allowed me to change my reservation the same day to a Sunday! I did not expect them to be ok with the change on such short notice and on a Sunday to boot, but it did not sound like a problem for them.As for the bait side of things, they list tide times be hind the counter and have an extrmely large array of fishing gear and fishing information. Whenever I shop at Hap's, I enjoy looking at all the fishing memorabilia. Old photos of big catches and mounted fish decorate the shop. Drew a picture for me, of recommended terminal tackle on a little slip of paper. Wrapped up my bait purchase in a plastic bag and added ice to keep it cold at no extra charge. Just what I needed, when I needed it.

My friends and I got robbed. We went in to grab 2 dozen jumbo(large) bloodworms and trusted the guy at the counter. When we got to our fishing spot we realized he shorted us on our worms and over half of what he gave us weren't even big enough to be considered regular sized. So make sure to check your count before you leave!

Great bait shop. Customer service amazing. Very funny has everything we needed plus more for fishing. Great prices and staff is very welcoming. Overall really great bait shop and will be visiting again.

This is by far one of the best bait shops I know if they have excellent live bait. That you would not find everywhere else blood worms! And whatever other fishing supplies tackle or bait you could use. Who is located about 5 to 10 five-minute walk from the ocean or water hey I should say! Great for kids great parents great for tourists just a wonderful place to be.

Ended up using there bait in vallejo. I love small businesses. Keep up the great work!

They serve good bait, informative,friendly, down to earth curtisy, they also dispatched and receive U-HAUL trucks and trailers,last minute oops I forgot items for your fishing and camping trip.Also sell fishing and hunting license.
