Absolutely worth the price of admission! In town and had an afternoon to kill while waiting for my beau, so decided to check out the museum. Coming from NY state, I feel like I've had a good introduction to paintings from Hudson River School artists, but didn't realize one of the largest collections was located in a Central Valley CA regional museum. I had 3 hours to kill, and only made it halfway through- the collection is truly magnificent and worthy of a trip to the city in its own right. Staff were incredibly kind, and the other exhibits are really well done as well- there seems to be things geared towards all ages, though young kids may not be nearly as entertained and enthralled as I was. Parking wasn't tricky since it was chilly out and a weekday, but I could see there being issues during warmer times.

I visited for only one reason- paintings by Albert Bierstadt. I read on the website that they had the largest collection of his paintings anywhere. That basically amounted to roughly six paintings. I didn't see the primary one that I was searching for, I think it might be at the Met in NY, but the other paintings were fabulous anyway. The paintings were beautifully lit and presented among works by his contemporaries. I am glad that I made the trip because I had never seen any of his seaside paintings. But I'm not sure it would be worth the average person's drive all the way out from Oakland. Stockton is lucky to have such a wonderful collection of Bierstadt's work. The other exhibits and the rest of the collection seemed unrelated and were just curiosities to us. It is extremely difficult to describe the collection as a whole. Everyone was kind and helpful and surprised I had driven out so far just to these paintings, lol! Otherwise, it's a great place for locals and families to picnic outside and take classes and learn a little bit about local history. I didn't take photos of his paintings, because you should really support the museum and it's totally worth the inexpensive admission fee to go see them.

Great museum in Stockton. Who would have thought. Has a lot of local history explained and exhibited here. There is an amazing native exhibit here, so don't miss it.We got in free with a BofA atm card. It is still worth every penny even if you have to pay. Would return someday when I am in the area. I enjoyed this hidden gem!

Situated in a lovely location within Victory Park, this is a well-designed museum with an interesting wide-ranging collection. Some outstanding fine art, and an extensive walk through local history. The jewel in the crown here is the J.C. Leyendecker exhibit (allegedly the largest single archive in the country). Great to see this important illustrator and painter get his due - though it is rather disappointing that there is little reference to his gay lifestyle, and the discrimination and conflict he faced. The staff were friendly and helpful, the Haggin Museum would be a perfect capstone to a day out in Stockton.

amazing display of American and European art. They have probably the largest collection of paintings by Albert Bierstadt outside of the east coast. you will be amazed bud the exhibit of wildlife art by Ezra Tucker. I also loved the reconstructions of a Wild West saloon, general store and other scenes of the American west. Drove up here from socal and it was worth the 7 hour trip
