This place started out as a food truck. Authentic Cambodian food! They use high quality ingredients. Is it your first time visiting? Walk straight to the register, order & pay first - they will give you a number and deliver your food to your table when it's ready. Ambiance: Large seating area with a high vaulted ceiling so it feels very spacious. Servers come by to check in you from time to time, after you receive your food. Casual attire. My favorites are: Thai-style Papaya salad, Tom Yum soup and their Drunken noodles. Food is cooked to order and comes out pretty quick. You must visit when in Stockton.

Spacious and clean. Great service. Easy to order. Friendly folks. A little wait with the food but totally worth it! We ordered:Tofu Spring Rolls with peanut sauce - huge rolls and freshly made! So good!Pad Se Eew - Very flavorful and delicious! Pork Belly Rice Plate - Amazing crispy pork belly that came with 2 sauces. Probably my favorite dish because I love pork belly! Would love to come back and try more dishes!

Had the boat noodles and pad kee Mao. The meat in the boat noodles weren't what I was expecting. It was enjoyable but not for me. I will have to try the beef noodle soup instead. Pad kee Mao was good, but the takeout had more cabbage than what I was expecting. But if I really think about it, isn't that more cost effective?I heard good things about about he pork belly larb. That will be my next meal to get. With that said, this place is good enough for me to come back and try other things. It's mid-ish but we'll see with the other items on the menu.

I was in the area and we needed to blow some time. When we decided to get lunch with that free time, my boyfriend decided this place. Please excuse me but OMFG!!!! The food was fantastic! So fantastic I'm mad I can't get this closer to where we live. Restaurant wasn't crowded and very clean. Very spacious inside with plenty of seating. They keep the episode of Diners Drive Ins and Dives they were featured on in rotation. We ordered:Coconut shakeKao poonLaap chickenCrab fried riceCoconut shake was perfect. Cold, creamy and perfect amount of coconut. Very refreshing!Laap chicken had great flavor but just a little too much cilantro for me. Great portion size tho.Crab fried rice. Probably the best fried rice I've ever had. No imitation crab used in this. Now for the star of the show...KAO POON!!! Whatever this recipe is, is beyond amazing. It's that type of dish that makes you happy dance. Every bite got better and better. Now that I've had it, I'm upset that Green Papaya is so far from my house and I can't have it every week.

I've been going to Green Papaya for quite some time, and they definitely deliver! I've had nothing but positive experiences here, and I can see why they've been featured by Guy Fieri.I started coming when they just opened their restaurant. The location is in a safe area, and they have an ample amount of parking. The interior is spacious and enough for a large amount of parties to dine in at once. You order your food and pay for the meal first, which is a reverse from your typical dining experience. Having grown up with Laos and Thai food I will say that this is probably one of the top in the Central Valley. Laotian food is not too common around here, so it is good to see a location that does it well. I am a sucker for Laos sausage and khao poon noodles and they do it very well here. The khao poon has a delicious curry taste and a generous serving of chicken and fresh vegetables to balance off the dish, which can be a little heavy. However, I do wish it came with more noodles.Stockton is not a great location, but that should not discourage you from enjoying the many delights there, Green Papaya being one of them.

It's been 6 years?! Wow!Green papaya moved locations so here I am with an update. My bf loves this place lol. One thing I would say for the khaopoon is the ratio between noodles and meat...needs more noodle lol. Also, boy was it red red. Don't think I've eaten khaopoon this red before. Overall, that dish was ok. Everything else we enjoyed very much! This is a pay and eat restaurant so don't expect waitresses/waiters to refill your drink. Parking is super limited...The place is very bright and spacious!Overall, I always come back here when I'm in Stockton. Although I should probably try to broaden my tastebuds a bit more instead of getting the same thing over and over LOL xD

This is a pretty good spot to try Lao food. You start by ordering your food and the bring the items to your table. The service is nice, young and kind of on the not people person side, but they're doing their best! The boat noodles had a decent broth that can be fixed to your liking, the papaya was nice and spicy I liked that they cut their papaya larger than most places. The best was the Lao sausage! We had the drunken noodle and it was the only thing I wouldn't recommend as the sauce was a little on the orange side and more oily. The restaurant is located in a busy area and right next door to tasty pot and other good places to stop by!

Food was delicious. Lots of flavor and fresh. Their chicken laap was yummy & their pad sie ew was good-standard. Broccoli was cooked perfectly, I am picky about that sometimes. The papaya salad was spicy and we ordered it mild. Their fresh spring rolls were good. Service was efficient. Ambiance is a big space, very family oriented. Would be back!

Are y'all freakin' kidding me?! This is one of the best Lao and Thai restaurants I have ever tried in Northern California! This one is going to be long so bare with me.A M B I A N C EIt's a huge open space that feels mostly casual but also very modern for this type of cuisine. The space is not overly decorated and there are not a lot of trinkets lying around, but you can sense the minimalist style upon walking in. Simple yet inviting, comfortable and yet not overbearing. The dining hall is a huge open space in which crowds large or small can get situated for a group or solo eating experience.F O O DAlright, this is where it gets fun. We read the Yelp reviews and were convinced this is a joint to check out while in Stockton. I have girlfriends that are Stocktonians and shared that it is a spot worth checking out given that I'm from the Bay Area, and our standards for food of all cuisines can be a bit selective. Our party of four ordered the following to share --* LAAP BEEF ($14.50)Ground beef and beef tripe, garnished with green onions and cilantro.* CRAB FRIED RICE ($17.50)Eggs, crab meat, butter, garlic, green onions, and cilantro* TOM YUM SOUP (SHRIMP) ($15.95)Hot and sour soup with lemongrass, ginger, kaffir leaves, mushrooms, pineapples, onions, tomatoes and garnished with cilantro, green onion -- served with lime wedges, Thai chilli peppers, and a side of steamed rice.* PAPAYA SALAD ($9.90)Shredded papaya, tomatoes, Thai chilli peppers, sugar, lime juice, and mixed with your style of flavor + spice [Lao, Thai, or Vegan). We chose LAO style which is described on the menu as, with fermented fish, crab, and shrimp paste with strong flavors.* SPICY LAO SAUSAGE ($13.50) Pork, Thai chili, lemongrass, shallots, onions, kaffir like leaves -- served with jeow som (dipping sauce). Contains Fish Sauce and Oyster Sauce (cannot substitute). That was the perfect spread for a party of four! Every single dish had its own distinctive flavor and represented the composition of the signature dishes extremely well. I love how the papaya salad really celebrated the Lao style of the dish and did not disappoint with the amount of spice and fermented fish sauces. My niece loved the Beef Laap and shared she was so impressed with the rice powder seasoning and the added beef tripe for extra texture. The crab fried rice was exceptional and had the right hints of crab bites along with complimenting seasoning. We could all tell the Spicy Lao sausages were made in-house by one of the Aunties in the kitchen as there was a homemade and yet traditional twist to every bite. Tom Yum soup is generally tastes almost the same at every restaurant but these guys didn't let up, and made sure the soup that is put out remains unique from local competitors -- the herbs, kaffir lime leaves, and all other additions were very prominent with every bit. We absolutely enjoyed every single bite of our lunch!S E R V I C EWe all have basic expectations of service while dining at a restaurant: courteous, professional, consistent, friendly, hospitable, etc.Let me tell y'all, this team over delivered and under promised! Every single team member assisted each other on waiting tables -- sort of like "pass the baton" style. It was a collective effort and we really felt that throughout our time dining in the restaurant. No one was territorial about which tables were covered or made guests feel uncomfortable -- they all just wanted to ensure we were well taken care of and had everything we needed. Truly impressive all around.B O N U SThis restaurant was featured on the Food Network and for good reason! They offered some Thai Tea sampling and their signature dish of NAM KAO which is described on the menu as, "Crispy flavored rice mixed with fermented pork, cilantro, green onions, peppers -- served as a lettuce wrap with mint, cilantro stalks, ginger, dried chili, peppers, peanuts, and lime." Now, that's a special treat if you have never tried and, this was one of their signature dishes featured on the Food Network! All in all, this restaurant is a whole experience. Whether you're a local resident in the great city of Stockton or simply passing through, make it a point to stop in at Green Papaya to treat yourself to some of the best Lao and Thai influenced food in the area.
