Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and the dancers were so fun to watch! If you ever get the chance, go! The bakery items are also very good! Authentic Greek baklava was the best I've ever had!

What it is: a small local festival put on by the Greek Orthodox Church in Modesto with similar festivals held at other Greek churches in September. Out local version includes a ticket for an amazing dance show and chicken dinner, which generally includes a bone in roasted marinaded chicken quarter; lemony rice pilaf, peas in tomato sauce ,salad with Greek feta and olives, and baklava. There is a dance show where they serve coffee and homemade Greek pastries or ice cream for an extra fee. This is an annual tradition around the second weekend in September. I've tried and tried to get that tomato wine lemony chicken marinade recipe out of them but they won't talk! There are tours of the gorgeous church murals and site, a small market place with vaguely cultural related items, and generally a good excuse to get out of the house. If you don't feel like hanging out there to go boxes are a great Bargain as well compared to local restaurants and the food is divine. It seriously worth picking up a couple of extra boxes to go. When I first started going around 2012 the tickets were $12. This year they were $20 which still seems very fair compared to what a comparable chicken dinner is selling for in a restaurant usually 25 to 30. I think this is a great Bargain and the dancing is awesome there are some serious athletic feats! By the way I am not a member of this church nor am I Greg I'm just a fan of the festival.

This is the first Greek Festival that I have attended in Modesto. This one is held at the Greek Orthodox Church of The Annunciation at 313 Tokay Avenue. It's amazing what you can learn while eating and drinking

Lindsey F. is completely right! The Greek Food Festival ROCKS! I didn't miss a year of it from age 15 until my junior year of college, when I just didn't have time to fly home anymore. My favorite are the carrots and the greek rice (it really is the best rice you'll ever have)---OBVI! Oh, and of course watching my besties dance! LOVIN' it!There's also an entire room full of pastries to buy-dieters beware! ;)I've come to several events at the Greek church aside from the food festival like graduation parties and a New Year's Eve event and they have ALL been great---Greeks are SO friendly and they LOVE to dance, and will make you dance too---despite not knowing the moves!High five GFF

I don't miss much about Modesto, but the Greek Food Festival is one thing I do miss. Just like the name says, food is the focal point, but all things Greek are involved - dancing, art, vendors, and even tours of the Greek Orthodox Church on site. Just don't forget to buy baklava to go. It is some of the best you'll ever have. Trust me.

It is definitely great!I always get tickets from a coworker of mine and all I can say is that the festival is GREAT!I have the pleasure of going every year. The food is made by all the ladies and gentleman from the church and you can really taste all the hard work and all the love that they put on the flavor of the food. The pastries are even YUM!You might think that you will be full after the main meal but DEFINITELY don't forget to try the desserts too!

The Greek Food Festival is the BOMB - and srsly, not only because I have been going/working/dancing at this place since I was 4, but because the food is deelish, the enterainment is fab, AND you can take pastries home!!This event happens every year in Modesto, usually on the second weekend in September, and is put on by the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunication. Modesto is a pretty diverse place, so any chance to experience culture first hand is always a plus. With the purchase of your ticket, you get a full on greek 'homestyle" meal that includes: salad, chicken, the best rice you will EVER have, peas, bread, and a piece of baklava for dessert. Additionally, you then get free admission to see the BEST greek dancers on the West Coast perform for you in an hour long show! (if you've been - you know what I'm talking about!)Bottom Line: I love greeks, greek food, and greek dance. You can get all that and MORE at the GFF!!!!
