If you are a music teacher or a musician I have a cautionary tale for you. Over 3 months ago, I made arrangements with Gottschalks Music in Modesto to have an instrument rental night for my students where they would come to my school and my kids could get instruments from them. Even got a phone call last week confirming that they would see me on Monday (8/15). Well, today at 3:45pm I received a phone call from Gottschalks telling me that they had to cancel my instrument rental night. I was taken aback! All i could muster was a, "Why?!?!" And then I was told by the employee that "I was told they we're not doing that and we have to cancel". When I asked why they would do that, after we had this planned and confirmed months ago, he said, "I didn't get a good reason why"... I was so livid. All I got was a "Sorry..." I told them that they really screwed me over and that it's their loss... Then they had the audacity to say, "Well if you still want information about rentals, I can send that to you." I responded with, "If you think I'll EVER do business with you again after the stunt you just pulled, you just be out of your mind!" Then he said, "Sorry..." and I hung up the call. I have never dealt with such a level of unprofessional incompetence in my life! Luckily, this story has a happy ending, and my faith in humanity has been restored. I reached out to Ingram and Brauns Musik Shoppe and told them about my situation. Not only can they host a rental night for me but, I don't have to go through the pain of trying to reschedule the whole event because they can even come this Monday on my original date. So, moral of the story: STEER CLEAR OF GOTTSCHALKS MUSIC! The most undependable, and flaky of all business. Shower Ingram & Brauns with all your affection and business!

In my opinion they have a wide variety of instruments from beginner to professional. I think the customer service is excellent. I thing the prices are fair. If you or your child is looking for a new instrument try giving Gottschalk Music Center a try.

I can not say enough good things about Gottschalk Music Center. My daughter plays a low brass instrument and I have no idea how to maintain/repair it. Thank god for these guys! Their customer service and professionalism is exemplary. They brought back to life an old Jupiter instrument that will be marched for years to come. Their quote and time line for repair were spot on. I've rented from Gotschalk in the past and had good experiences, but this go around has been awful. I called to inquire about renting an instrument and was told they have 15 in the back needing to go through repairs. I asked if they could let them know there was a customer wanting to rent one and call me when it's ready. The employee said "we've tried that and it doesn't work. I don't know when they'll be available. There are 20 trumpets that need to be serviced before we move on to other instruments". I figured maybe I just talked to a less than informed employee so I sent an email 3 days ago and never received a response back. I even sent a couple Facebook messages asking if they are even currently renting instruments. Both of my messages have been read but no response. The customer service is absolutely awful and pretty much non existent. Go to Ingram and Brauns - they're service is amazing. So professional and helpful and big on customer service.

I'm not a fan of their instrument rental program. Two stars and two thumbs down on they're online user account system. Through your online account there's an option to check a box allowing email notifications, BUT it's only for advertisement purposes. There's no option for paperless billing notifications or reminders -- inconvenient & asinine, in my opinion. Mailed bills and phone calls don't really work for me for several reasons, but mostly because none of my other bills work that way.They're the pricier rental program + if you're like me their late fees will creep up on you. I really wish I had gone through The Music Connection, but we weren't so lucky with our timing and their availability. We're on a rent-to-own program and unfortunately I feel locked in since I've paid more than half of the total cost. This far in, I figure I'm better off sticking it out with this program even though every ounce of me would rather go somewhere else. I cannot wait to be done paying this instrument off and be done dealing with this company.I would totally avoid renting from Gottschalk again in the future.

Here is a Modesto Treasure! This music store has outfitted thousands of Modesto area music fans and students! They are locals who love music and music education. If you want unbiased, honest opinions....check this place out!From Brass to woodwinds..Sheet music...etc..

they team up with their contracted violin teacher to scam. For especially new people who has no idea to chose.

Unreliable, unprofessional and overall not worth your time! If you want a business that will cancel on you last minute for an event then Gottchalk's is for you.

Great place! I've had my daughters strings replaced here. It was done quickly and efficiently. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I had to have new strings for my uke. I was told it would be finished in an hour or two as they had several clients. I returned in less than a hour and it had been completed. The young gentle was a very happy and client pleasing person. He is a great asset.
