Garcias Hunting Preserves

I never hunted with this business, but I'm glad it never happened. I am a business owner and my brother in law is a Marine and Sacramento Sheriff. I wanted to pay for his hunt as a gift for serving our country so I asked if they offer any discounts for people who served or are active law enforcement. The response I got was rather shocking. Rather then asking questions, he just assumed he knew the situation and thought I was asking for myself. One of the businesses I own is a referral business based on military / law enforcement appreciation. However based on his response (as seen in the photo attached) he comes off as if he has a dislike for military and law enforcement, which is weird because every hunter / guide I've run into are quite the opposite. This was his response.

After our hunt he asked us how we did? To which we replied we only spotted 5 and killed 2 and we used our hunting dog. He immediately and very aggressively said: "I hope you're not accusing me of cheating and you better not be!" Shocked by the question and pre-emptive accusations we reminded him that he's the one that asked the question and we hadn't even suggested such a thing. He had some unnecessary choice words for us and walked away. If you're an out of towner, I'd suggest you pick a different business. I never thought he was cheating but after that exchange his behavior assured me that something was not right.

After 50 years of pheasant hunting and experience with 6 different clubs/preserves, I can honestly say this is the best. Why? It is organized and well run. The birds are in great shape ( not fat and slow nor underfed) and fly fast. The terrain is well kept and varied. The owners are very responsive to communication. Fields are big which makes hunting safer when other hunters are nearby. Reservations, check in and out process is highly efficient. It is family friendly and I bring my sons and daughter. Other members always seem highly courteous and safe. Overall excellent!!

Spent the whole day hunting and no pigs. They dont bait the pigs or use dogs. Save your money and go elsewhere. Wasted time and money.

Jim Garcia is a great.This is my first season hunting, and I called Garcia's well before I even had a hunting license. I told him I was trying to get started and he spent 20 minutes on the phone with me giving advice to get me going.Fast forward a couple months and I call Jim back with a hunting license in hand and booked a pheasant hunt for my me and my dad. We showed up the morning the of the hunt and got checked in, waited a few minutes while he situated members who arrived before us. My dad has a GSP who is not trained yet for hunting, so we got set up with a dog and a handler to see how it's supposed to work with a trained dog.After the hunt, Jim showed us how to clean birds. They normally don't want you to clean them there, but we were headed straight for an overnight backpacking trip, so Jim let us do it there. The experience was positive from the first call through the moment we drove away. This is an intimidating sport to get into without having any friends or family as mentors. We left here with some confidence in our ability to safely walk and hunt birds. We have since gone out on our own for wild quail. Next time my dad comes up to visit we will definitely bring his dog out to get him on some birds!

Jim Garcia rocks! Professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to hunt with. We were able to harvest an amazing wild pig on Friday and spent Saturday hunting Chukars and Pheasants... Where else can you enjoy this awesome experience in CA?
