Im surprised that FSO haven't been listed on yelp before. Anyway, this summer was our first swim season for my two boys. We enjoyed our season. The training was great with some Coaches but not for others. I think if you are going to coach young children (especially boys) who don't sit still and enjoy having fun with their friends in the water, you need to find an effective way to curb that behavior. There were a few times I found myself frustrated & rather angry at how my boys were talked to & treated. The parents received a couple of disrespectful emails from some coaches & after raising some concerns about it, I personally never felt like it was addressed. There are alot of choices for swim teams in & near Folsom. We would swim at FSO again, but I would def have a different attitude about it.

The Folsom Sea Otters are a Folsom tradition since 1985 and the only public rec swim team in Folsom (all other rec teams in town require you to pay to join a private athletic club just to have your child join their swim team). The focus is on teaching kids excellent technique to improve swim efficiency and avoid injury, all while having fun making friends and reaching for goals. Recreation summer swim can be competitive and that certainly adds to the fun, but FSO's high-level goal is for teammates to develop a life-long love of the sport of swimming -- one of the best forms of exercise over the long term (no concussions, no knee injuries!). And the kids practice in the best pool in the area, the Folsom Aquatic Center -- the only Olympic-sized pool for miles around.
