First time doing an escape room. No idea what to expect but was ready for it. Booked ahead online for a timeslot and specific escape game theme/challenge. Group of 3. Did the Alcatraz escape room which is themed around escaping from Alcatraz. Impressive atmosphere and props. Definitely pay attention to every type of detail. The Alcatraz escape was split into several different escape room scenarios that you unlock as you make you make your way through the rooms. Some rooms were harder than others but, overall, all rooms are doable and challenging. Definitely a fun and engaging activity for a small group and a unique way to see how others around you think in a problem solving situation.

What a great experience! Friends and I came to here to do a farewell for a special someone aka Ms.EscapeSF (literally she left to NY!) lol. She had done all escape rooms but 1 and to celebrate her goodbye we decided to do the last escape room that required a big group. We only had 60 minutes to escape and 7 geniuses in the room, of course we made it out with only 1 clue. Staff was the sweetest! It was Sunday 9am and we had absolutely no energy and they were able to bring our energy up. I can't thank Priscilla and John enough for the farewell gift to our friend as she now will bring a part of SF to NY! It was so fun that I had purchase 2 more tickets to take my partner!

All 3 rooms here are so much fun and so satisfying to solve! My friends and I are huge escape room junkies; we've done all the rooms in The Escape Game and are regulars at 60out in LA. So, we have high expectations when it comes to escape rooms, yet EscapeSF didn't disappoint!King Arthur: 8.5/10This one was the first that I did here about 2 years ago, and I remember it being very difficult. I did it with 3 people total, but I'd recommend a minimum of 4 people. We spent majority of the time in the first room, and the puzzles required a lot of strategic thinking. Each room was designed intricately.Escape from Alcatraz: 8/10Did this one this past weekend with 1 other person (2 people total), and it was so much easier than King Arthur. This is the perfect room for a small group, and I recommend doing it with no more than 3 people total since the puzzles are easier and there aren't as many to solve. The storyline was easy to follow, and each puzzle led to the next in an intuitive manner. I love the tie to SF as well. We solved it with 10 minutes remaining with only 1 hint. Highly recommend this one, especially if you enjoyed The Escape Game's Alcatraz-themed room.Blind Tiger Bar: 9.5/10This is by far my favorite! I did it 3 weeks ago and haven't been able to stop talking about it with other people. The difficulty level is moderate, and I did it in a group of 4 which was the perfect size where each person was engaged and could solve a few puzzles of their own. I recommend a group of no larger than 4-5 for this room. I didn't pay attention during the intro when the gamemaster shared the story on the room, but the story came together as we went from room to room. The puzzles were so satisfying to solve, and I love the overall mysterious, yet quirky mafia theme.Overall, the rooms all have some wear and tear and the tools (keys, locks, cards, etc.) used throughout the game feel a little grimy, but I don't mind since the puzzles themselves are fun and satisfying to solve, and the gamemasters are friendly. You can book a private room in advance online based on your group size, and the price per person is very reasonable. Great location in Chinatown, too!

I was looking for escape rooms in San Francisco and found a few options. The biggest escape room in the city doesn't accommodate private parties unless you book up all 8 spots int he room, which was a no-go. I found Escape SF from Google and it was super easy making a booking on their website. The prices were reasonable too - we did a room for $45 per person, for 4 people. Our game master was super nice and was very thorough in explaining the game and all the rules. We had two people in our party that have never done an escape room before, so she made sure they knew what they were doing. She made sure we weren't wasting time on portions of the room that wasn't relevant anymore. We finished with about 7 minutes to spare, but did use 2 hints. We did the King Arthur room and really enjoyed it. It was challenging, but mostly intuitive and the things we needed the hints or were really just us being dumb. All in all, I would highly recommend and I think we've created some fans of escape rooms!

My husband and I had a blast here. Everyone seemed to enjoy being there as well... including the staff! That's not easy either but the staff appeared to like their jobs. The room we were in was tough, but not impossible (with unlimited hints! ). They do great at not giving things away but helping you see the problem differently. Also, it felt clean, which is appreciated when you're fumbling about and touching everything.

I came here with some friends for a fun afternoon activity. We ended up being late for our reservations, but the staff were incredibly accommodating and allowed us to start when we were ready since there wasn't another group booked after us.We did the King Arthur's Legacy room. This overall seems like a more low-key escape room experience, there weren't that many special effects or videos to set the scene before we started.Inside, there were a few gimmicks that required us to notice something really specific or figure out a trick, and overall, the puzzles were okay. I felt like we got stuck just trying to search for hidden items or trying to figure out what to do with certain objects, and not actually trying to solve puzzles. However, it could have been because my friends weren't as experienced with solving escape rooms. After we finished, the staff patiently went through any questions we had about the room, which was a nice touch. In terms of the room itself, it wasn't my absolute favorite, but what stood out was the excellent staff. If I ever wanted a more budget-friendly and easier escape room experience, I wouldn't mind coming back here.

This was my very first escape room in SF so the name 'EscapeSF' was very fitting. I did a few over in Orange County whenever I visited my girlfriend. SF definitely doesn't have as many escape rooms but I am SUPER happy we chose this location and wait until I tell you why. To be honest, our first choice was Palace Games because it was nearby our breakfast spot - Cracked and Battered, but all the early times were booked. Turns out, Palace Games has a flat rate fee of I believe $425 so it will take about 10 people to make it $40 ish per person (which is the price I am use to paying) so good thing we did not go there as we only had 4 people. So the crazy thing is, our game master, Harry, was a game master I had back in one of the escape rooms in Orange County. I did not recognize him right away but as soon as he introduced himself with his AMAZING energy, my eyes widened and I kept thinking "NO WAY..." and I waited patiently until he finished introducing the game and asked "Do you guys have any other questions before we start?" I asked "Random question but did you work at another escape room... perhaps in Orange County?" And he was shocked and said yes! I remember him as soon as he said his name with his energy. He stood out because my very first escape room EVER, he was amazing. He carried the same energy as he did today which made him super memorable. My group in Orange County all loved Harry too - we even asked him to be our game master for our second game back in Orange County. When we were waiting for our second game, we were like "Guys we gotta ask for Harry!" So it's SUPER wild I met him again back in SF of all places. He made our experience so amazing that my group did 3 escape rooms in the same day at EscapeSF. My entire group saw why I loved Harry as my our game master because they loved him too. We did these 3 in order:1) Escape from Alcatraz 7/102) King Arthur's Legacy 10/103) Escape from Blind Tiger Bar 8/10Escape from Alcatraz was our first choice since, well... Alcatraz and we are in SF. In my personal opinion, Alcatraz was definitely a good warm up/starter escape room but after experiencing the others, it wasn't as amazing. My group liked the room though because we were handcuffed and it added to the immersion. But after seeing the cool features in the other 2, it would've been a slight disappointment doing one of those first and then Alcatraz. My favorite was King Arthur which is their hardest room but it was FREAKING AMAZING! We passed with 5 seconds left and thankfully Harry was always pushing us in the right direction but never giving away the puzzle so he saved our butts in that game. He told us "I knew it would end up very close so I pushed you guys in the right direction" which shows he was very attentive to use It's definitely one of my most favorite room ever, if not, my favorite of all time (I've only done around 10). We did the Tiger one because it was Harry's favorite and it definitely was a cool room but it felt more difficult than King Arthur. It ended up being the only one we failed but our game master (Harry had to go), Dunmar, allowed us to keep going until we finished. I went with a group of 4 - 2 of us who never even done an Escape Room and even they wanted to do all 3 so that shows how fun it was! Highly recommend checking this place out. No knock on the game master as I'm sure they're all great but Harry is amazing and he's only there on weekends so keep that in mind! As for parking, there's a parking lot about a block away.

Legitimately the worst escape room I ever done to the point that I'm kind of shocked that this is even an actual business. Right off the bat the interaction with the host was very unusual. My boyfriend andi arrived and given directions to the bathroom, which I didn't need to use. The host for some reason felt it was necessary to prompt me to go to the bathroom anyway like I'm a little kid being reminded to pee before a long car ride, and this is apparently because unlike virtually every other escape room, they will not allow you to step out of the room to use the restroom once the game starts. The bathroom was at the bottom of very steep, very narrow stairs and I reiterated that I did not need to use it and did not want to climb down these stairs but unfortunately the escape room itself was also in the basement of the building. Which is the overwhelming issue with this room. It's in a basement. A musty, moldy, rusty basement. We did the Alcatraz room and it seemed obvious to me that they were kind of leaning into the basement aesthetic to sell the experience but holy heck it was gross. Everything smelled strongly of mildew, there were bits of rusted metal jutting from parts of the walls and buckets and trash cans being used to collect dripping water. Every prop we touched was damp and at one point we found a live slug just hanging out on one of the walls. The game design was mediocre at best. Puzzles were not intuitive, multiple props were never used for anything and several of the ones that did did not function properly. There also just weren't very many puzzles despite there being several rooms. We had to ask for a few hints due to the props not functioning well and the hints were equally unhelpful. If the room hasn't been in a dank rusty and mildewy basement I might have just shrugged off the puzzles being a little weak but the combination made this such a bad experience that I almost just hit the emergency exit button so I could leave before we finished it.*Edit: the owner issued a refund, which is appreciated. Please go to the room with the dental chair and check along the back wall, there's a piece of what might be old pipe at about eye level that sticks out from the wall far enough that someone could easily be hurt by it. It was quite jagged and very rusty. Thanks!
