As the plaque itself states, the field is dedicated to a man who made it his mission to promote youth baseball. That's exactly a large part of what it is used for today and the reason why I go down. Watching my son play on this well-maintained field in a massive, one-of-a-kind park is just one of the many reasons why I love Sacramento. There are a number of fields in this complex, so I suppose this review goes for most of them. They all have dugouts and backstops and clearly marked fields with a combination of dirt and grass. I won't say they are the best maintained, but they do the job when it comes to youth sports. Another plus is that most of the area is well-shaded by massive old trees during the summer months. So as a fan, you can enjoy your little person as they enjoy the game and do so from the comfort of bleachers in a nice shaded area.

Batter's up ! Growing up in the Land Park Area of Sacramento, Doc Oliver Field was our go-to baseball field. Memories of me playing here with my friends always put a smile on my face ."Doc" Oliver Field was named after Dr. Oliver whom was instrumental in the development of youth baseball in Sacramento. The baseball diamond is located in William Land Park. As old as the park is, the baseball diamond is still in very good shape. Parking can be found around the park along the street.During the weekends are when this place comes alive ! Baseball tournaments, birthday parties, and good old fashion weekend warrior baseball. "Play Ball"!

Its a field - theres a lot grass... What more can I say?? I love making a big story out of nothing... there is a sort of humor in it - so here we go. The Land Park neighborhood is one of those places that was in the past and still is a prestigious neighborhood. Beautiful custom houses, tree lined streets and no rif raf. If you grew up here you might have an attitude - but hey - good for you... this is a neighborhood few could afford. So the grass. Yeah, its kinda tall. It puts some bounce in your step. Last time I was here a soccer game was in play. I suppose its mostly known as a baseball field but its suitable for many sports. On the far end there are a few pull up bars. Yeah, I always stop to pump out a few so everybody watching can see my super human strength. People here are polite - I guess good manners still live in certain parts of town.Check reviews for neighboring William Land Park, the Sacramento Zoo and Fairy Land - they are all connected to this park and are nearby.

In the 1980's and 1990's this field had teams play that were in the National Division. National Div. was the top Div. for the Land Park Fields, Land Park #1 field is Doc Oliver, #2 Field was the American Div. and Joe Duarte field was land park #3 field. I played in all Div. , I was with Islanders for the Pacific Coast Div, Bull Dogs in the Div 2 field and K&Z at the Div. 1 field. Joe Duarte came to watch some of the games, it was neat to have the guy they named the field after watching the baseball games.
