Stopped here on the way to the mountains to check out the produce amongst the many orchards and other stands along the way competing for sales. The stand was run by a single lady who was friendly and answered our questions about all the produce she had out. Lots of the usual - strawberries, apricots, walnuts and more. There were some unusual (at least for me) pieces for sale such as the persimmons. This stand was also significantly bigger than a lot of the others we passed which I assume is due to DePalma being a bit more established. I didn't get anything but I did sample a few pieces of fruit and all were very good and encouraged by the lady running the stand. One of the people in my travel group also got a piece of corn that he ate raw and said it was "very sweet and delicious." It looked good and take his word for it.

My taste buds had an orgy in my mouth while consuming an entire ambrosia melon from DePalma Farms on Sunday and I am still recovering from it.They had a booth at the Farmer's Market in front of Dillard's... offering samples of their melons and such. I thought I died and went to melon heaven. So while my husband, God love him, took a nap, I stood in the kitchen, in my favorite old navy t-shirt and favorite boy shorts, inhaled an entire ambrosia melon.I had to clean the kitchen of all of the evidence. I even lit a yankee candle to clear the air of the sniffs of goodness. So this Sunday.... guess what I'm doing.... again.

I finally had a chance to stop here on my way home from a weekend on the lake. The produce was fresh. I bought more corn than I would have as the price was great! My favorite (& what I was hoping for) Excellent prices on nuts. I knew I wanted nuts from the farm but I have a budget. I also didn't want a pound of anything as I wouldn't eat all that. DePalma had an offer by the register. 1/2 bags. I wanted to buy Walnuts. Yay! Got an 8oz bag for $3.00! They had pistachios to sample: YUM! Wanted a bag of those too. They were out of the 8oz. The sweet cashier girl asked her Mom to make up a few bags & boom! 8oz of pistachios. The prices are great. The food tastes good. The nuts are fresh. What more do you want from a produce market at the farm?I will stop again when driving through.
