My review is also belated. I had my wedding reception here in June 2007, so things may have changed a little since then. For the price, this place can't be beat. With the hardwood floors, wooden beams and long windows, it's already nice on the inside, but how you decorate it really makes a difference. I've seen pictures of weddings that used plastic table cloths and balloons, and while there's nothing wrong with going that route, it does cheapen the room. Although rental includes the use rectangular tables and brown chairs, we rented our own white chairs and round guest tables. For us, the rectangular tables worked well for the head table, buffet and present tables, but there was no way I was using those ugly brown chairs. We had no problems with the A/C, bathrooms or outlets. We had a lot of stuff plugged in throughout the room, although we did not use the stage. The ovens did have some heating problems, but in the end, everything worked out and our food was hot and delicious. We had round tables set up for 150 or so guests and had plenty of room to move around and dance.Parking is definitely a downside. There is a small lot for the Shepherd's Garden & Art Center behind the park on the 33rd Street side guests can use, but it's first come, first serve. We included a basic wedding map of the area, and some guests still couldn't find the parking lot.Tips for renting this place:- Ensure you have a facility worker nearby to help you with any problems.- If it's summer, book the hall when the pool is closed/or will be closing soon.- Schedule your vendors to arrive extra early because of the parking situation.- Offer a shuttle service from your ceremony site or encourage guests to carpool to the reception.- Keep in mind the time of day. Our reception started around 4:30 on a Saturday in the summer. That was a busy time for the park and parking, but by the time the we came in from doing pictures at another location, things had died down. Our photographer was able to find parking right away to follow us in and document everything.

Like all city owned facilities, lack of tax revenues has resulted in deferred maintenance on the physical plant (air conditioning and heating) as well as electrical. On the night of Saturday, April 9, 2011 -- there was only ONE working electrical outlet on the stage area where the DJ was set up. This was enough power to operate the speakers, amplifiers, mixing consoles and CD players (about 3000 watts needed), but there was no other outlet for computers, lighting, or the photographer to plug in his laptop computer so he could edit his images. In addition, the bathrooms are filthy, due to the hall being in a Public Park Library building. Parking situation is atrocious, making it extremely difficult for vendors to load their deliveries for tables/chairs, or sound equipment, etc. There is no direct way to load into this building!I could go on and on, but my best advice is "Caveat Emptor"

Extremely belated, but I realized I never reviewed this location. We helpd our wedding reception in 2007 at this location. The room is lovely, with nice ceilings, wood floors and ample windows. We rented the room, kitchen and stage for the entire day and it was very reasonably priced. I think it goes without saying about the parking. We live in the area and it's just to be expected. I never had any guests complain, and in fact many of our friends biked here. The kitchen was ample for our caters and wedding cake assembly. We did end up renting chairs but used the tables provided. Really the only minor issue we had was the room was hot and stuff when we arrived in the morning and the a/c is controlled from another location, so it was trying to get ahold of sometone to get the temperature correct. Luckily someone at the facility was able to help. Also, at that time we had many strings of lights plugged in and a full PA system with no electrical troubles.

They are extremely difficult and frustrating to communicate with. They don't return phone calls in a timely manner. While the Rose Garden was the perfect place for my wedding, it took MANY WEEKS to book; one month after the wedding we have unfinished business and they aren't returning calls.

I come here for Yoga on Saturday morning and it's great. The space is good enough that I can hear the instructors and it seems clean enough. Everyone who goes is very nice and I'm glad they were able to rent out the clunie center for yoga

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Lisa at the Clunie Community Center. My mom recently passed away and we couldn't afford a service at the funeral home. I called and left a message. Lisa called me back and provided me with all the information about the rooms over the phone and also emailed me additional information. She was very kind and provided her condolences. She met me the next day to view the rooms. She was very kind and patient throughout the whole process. We rented the East Sacramento room and the Alhambra room. Everything was set up before our scheduled time and exactly how Lisa said it would be. Lisa had a sign up directing people to our service since there was also a wedding being held there. She offered a dolly so that we could easily get everything to the rooms. They even lent us an extension cord for our projector and provided a projector screen. Before she left for the evening she made sure we knew who to go to if we needed anything. Everything went smoothly and I'm really glad we were able to use the community center. The price was incredibly reasonable and I'd use their space again. Lisa helped make the difficult process run smoothly.

Clunie Hall is a wonderful location for parties and special celebrations in East Sac. Best of all, you don't get that kind of atmosphere so affordably anymore, but the City of Sacramento does us all a service by administrating this facility at VERY reasonable cost. The facility lies within McKinley Park which also features a community swimming pool, duck pond, tennis courts, rose garden and running trail. Largest drawbacks are: 1) Parking. There is no city lot nearby, so guests must plan to arrive early enough to find street parking, something of a competition given the multiple uses of the park. There are frequently large family picnics on the grounds, and you may have to hear loud, inappropriate music if you go outdoors. 2) The kitchen is not really that large and does NOT have stovetops. There is lots of great counterspace and a couple of "holding ovens" which means you can store hot food and keep it hot, but you can't COOK food in them. So if it's a do-it-yourself party, keep in mind that your hot foods must be prepared off-site. I catered many events in this facility and found the staff and sub-contract security, etc very kind and helpful. There are gorgeous multi pane windows along both sides of the hall, but one side looks out at the community pool, which isn't aesthetically pleasing. Come prepared with dustrags, etc because it's a high ceiling property and all the windows get dusty. Be sure to ask to see the tables and chairs provided for the facility as they may be less pleasing to the eye than anticipated. Given the price for the hall, I don't think any reasonable person can expect better. It's a great facility.
