I'm so upset yesterday I received a call from my son's principal Veronica. She proceeded to inform me that my son would not be able to walk across the stage. For his 8th grade promotion due to that he had an F in science. I was so upset because I had went all out getting him his fancy haircut & a tux. Doing all I can trying to lift his spirits up and letting him know not to feel guilty because he was graduating and his sister was in heaven. Who would have graduated also last year from the 8th grade. so it took every ounce of energy I had to make sure I was going to go all out and let him know how proud I am of him. Also to reassure him that his sister would want him to be happy and would be very proud of him. Just to have to come home after the concert to tell him that he couldn't walk across the stage due to an F in science. Apparently at Claudia Landeen the school he attends here in Stockton rule is if you have an F in one of your classes you can't walk across the stage and you have to have a grade point average of 2.0. I had called his old school in Fairfield just to see what the rules were there they told me regardless of a student's grade they all get to walk in their 8th grade promotion. That they would not take that away from a student. He just started this school at the end of April and I proceeded to tell the counselor that you should have informed him when he signed up or let him know the rules that if he had an F he wouldn't be able to graduate. Instead you have me hype Julian all up get him a fancy haircut and tux just to be shot down. They didn't even have the decency to tell him his self and they wait a day before his promotion to call me and tell me. After all the money spent and leave it up to me to do the Dirty Work and tell my son that he won't be walking across the stage they should have at least had the decency to call in the principal with the counselor and have me present there to let him know. Instead they let me look like the bad guy after I'm the one that told them it was okay to be happy and that is sister would be smiling down at him from heaven so happy to see him graduate. When I told my son the situation when I came home last night he was so distraught and upset he said fuck my life I just want to kill myself. I told him I was so sorry and that we would make the best of this situation and that I still wanted him to dress up in his tux and I would take him to the restaurant of his choice and me and his step dad and his brother would go out and celebrate his promotion that nobody was going to stop us from being happy. Just to let you know of course I went to the district to let them know of this situation all they could tell me was it's in the parent handbook and rules are rules it would take a board meeting to by passes and of course that's not going to happen because today's the promotion at 7 p.m..

This school is an exemplary model of collaborative education, where the principal and teachers work closely with parents to create a personalized learning plan for each child. In contrast to my disappointing interactions with principals at other schools, the principal at Claudia Landeen demonstrated genuine interest in my child's needs. The teaching staff is outstanding, and the principal's dedication to her students is evident. THANK YOU Mrs. Carillo-Kelly. YOU are valued and so appreciated!

So interesting and enlightening and helpful to read some of these reviews. First and foremost, our new principal is a rock star. She is so much more than any other site at our district could ask for. Why, you ask? It's because she actually does want what is BEST FOR STUDENTS. And by the way, WHAT'S BEST FOR STUDENTS does not ALWAYS equal WHAT PARENTS EXPECT FROM THEIR SCHOOL'S PRINCIPAL. For example, if your child is not allowed to take part in the Promotion Ceremony in May (or June), it is not because the principal is MEAN. Rather, it is, in Landeen's case, because your student did not meet the requirements necessary. This almost always means that the parent waited until April or May to decide to get involved. The sounds that your typed words make to responsible, truly caring, and mature parents makes? "Wha, wha, wha..."

Not a big fan of some aspects of social media as old posts seem to linger forever. While I feel terrible reading of the kids being bullied in prior posts, I feel the current atmosphere has changed. I can honestly tell you that both the school district, teachers, staff, and administrators have implemented ongoing programs to identify and prevent bullying. Also, since the 2016 school year, Claudia Landeen School does have a new principal, Ms. Veronica Tigert. She is a great leader and communicator. I say this because in the past I have served on the PTSA board and the school site council and I am also a minority (which was a comment on the other post). I have been very impressed with the new principal, the dedicated teachers and the staff. I truly believe the prior comments are in the past and I do not believe they apply to the current environment.

I agree with Alexandra's review. I attended claudia landeen over 30 years ago as a minority and I was bullied every single day from first to 7th grade. When I tried telling the teachers, they seem to always side with the bullies. Till this day, I can not forget the awful experience I had at this school. It is so unfortunate to know that has not changed 30 years later. My condolences to Alexandra and her family. I understand what it's like to be picked on with no one to turn to for help.
