Capitol Event Center

Never knew this place was here. Kinda old but came here for an event and it was a decent place. The 3rd floor got so hot though but there's a nice big room to hold an event. Just never knew this place existed.

The Capitol Event Center is a hidden gem in downtown Sacramento. Parking is relatively easy to find between a parking garage and metered street parking. Be wary as several of the metered parking spots are for 30 minutes only. It's a great place for small to medium sized events. They have a capacity of up to 300 people depending on the type of event and your needs. We attended my wife's cousin's 40th birthday party. You can bring in your own alcohol, drinks, and food. The restrooms were very clean and well stocked. There's a 20% off coupon off future bookings by checking in on Yelp.They have a full kitchen for cateters as well as a list of preferred vendors.They also have audio visual tools for meetings and the like. It was a nice venue and we hope to book an event here in the future.

We've booked their meeting space a few times for varies meetings and it's always a smooth process. It's directly across from the Cathedral on 11th Street and next door to Oblivion Comics. It's an older building, but they've done some nice upgrades to parts of it like even adding apartments on top.They set up the tables, chairs and if you order coffee and water as well. They allow outside catering from their preferred list which works great for us! They also have coffee brought over from Oblivion Comics if you request it which I like that they work with their neighbor. Their second floor meeting room is nice and open with counter space in the back and plenty of room for catering. A/V is available for a price as well.The Manager's office is right next door from the meeting room too with someone usually in there to help with whatever you need. I highly recommend this place! Dealing with Marques, the events manager from this venue, was one of the worst experiences we've gone through. Before signing a contract, he promised us the world and after only gave us hell. Please avoid getting swindled if you are considering this place for your event. We chose it for its location and proximity to the Cathedral, where we had our ceremony. Marques was very unprofessional. In a moment where you have so many details to worry about, he only gave us more problems to try and resolve up until the day of our special event. He nickeled and dimed us till we walked out the door. I have never dealt with such poor customer service, especially when planning a big event. He wasn't able to give us basic information we requested, like the table sizes and the furniture available at the hall. He then wanted to charge us $100.00 to go see the place to plan the layout. He argued about every single thing we asked and didn't allow our catering business to see the hall either. I was charged $300 dollars to turn on two TV's to watch a slideshow, because it was it "wasn't part of the package" - UNBELIEVABLE!The day of the event the temperature inside the hall was outrageously hot. I had to clean the main entrance to the place myself because it was so dirty and stained. Not once was I greeted or made to feel welcome as a customer. Marques ended our night chasing us out to the Cathedral and saying he was only there "to open the door and close the door". And that's pretty much what he did, he wasn't much help at all!I haven't written a bad Yelp review until now, even if I wasn't completely satisfied with an establishment. If you have a special day, don't ruin it by renting this place. The events manager from this place needs a review of LESS than one star!

An older building that's been nicely remodeled and actually is quite spacious inside for large events such as conferences, seminars, speaker talks, etc. They also cater the events if your event requires food. The building feels a bit claustrophic when you first go in as you go through a tight set of stairs up to the 2nd floor where there's several rooms, but I've only been in a very large conference room while attending some talks. The catered food has always been excellent with a good variety of vegan, vegetarian, and courses that include meat. I've mostly only had salads here of those variety, but they've all tasted great even when it's mostly greens and I'm definitely an omnivore who tends to eat like a carnivore rather than a herbivore who'd love veggies and more veggies. The catering staff here knows how to make veggies taste good. Their desserts are absolutely delicious and their food display always tasteful. The facility is remodeled even if the building might look historic, the rooms are all well appointed, and the bathrooms always clean and nicely decorated and designed. All in all, I've had good experiences attending events here and recommend this location for office events and conferences although I do not have personal experience in getting quotes for holding events here. Worth a consideration if you're looking for a place to hold a good number of people for office holiday parties, large meetings or conferences.

We had an event in the main room for 30 people and it went super well. The staff were super friendly, Jenny even helped us with set up and take down. They were flexible and added things that day for us. The other staffer helped us with tech issues and we found out they are Apple/Mac friendly and we were able to do all the audio/visual via screen mirroring. Highly recommend and will use again next year.

This is a unique venue for anything from a board meeting to a fun social event. Working with Marques is a great experience. He really does want you to have a successful event and he knows his venue inside and out. I highly recommend the center.

Marques is fantastic! Very timely with his quote information, very professional and friendly during our site visit and the space is amazing. Definitely recommend!
