It was a hot, beautiful spring day after months of dreary weather. I had the day off, it was mid week, and all I wanted was some grub and a beer on a local patio... but, no crowds. I wanted some peace paired with my meal. Canyon Lakes came up on Yelp- I forgot this place existed. I haven't been in maybe 3 years. Stopped in... and stood at the "wait to be seated" sign for 5+ minutes like a dork, no employee in sight but I could hear staff shooting the breeze (loudly) in the kitchen, down the hallway. Finally, an employee came out of the abyss and not so kindly reprimanded me and said that I need to grab my own menu and take a seat and "order at the window". "What window?" I asked. She showed me around the corner where a window between the interior bar and the exterior hallway is. She lightened up when she realized I was genuinely confused. So- things have changed quite a bit in the last three years. Gone is table service, now you're ordering at a window that you wouldn't know about unless you've a regular- or you read this review ;) To reduce confusion, perhaps removal of the wait to be seated sign is in the future! When I arrived around 2-ish, the good seats on the patio overlooking the greens were taken, but the seats quickly freed as the place emptied out. The menu is huge- perhaps too huge. Gordon Ramsey taught me to be nervous of long menus. I chose the ultimate chicken sandwich-- I was impressed! It was actually very very good, and they didn't scrimp on the portion sizes... I could have easily shared it with someone. The tator tots... to be blunt, tasted like the oil they were cooked in. I would pass on the tots. When I ordered my beer, I knew I made the wrong choice when after pouring it for me, the bartender gave me a free taste of a different beer that was a completely different style than the west coast IPA I ordered, but he insisted I needed to try it (for the future order, try the pineapple-something he poured me... much better than the flat IPA I got). I had a good time overlooking the greens in a peaceful environment with my grub, beer, and a good book.My overall impression; it came across like management is mishandling a quiet restaurant. There's great potential.

Another great experience here. Food is so good. Service is always super friendly. View is awesome and every time I come, the interior looks better. This is gonna be a regular spot.

Nice ambience overlooking the golf course! Food was tasty ! Best were the falafel and fish sandwich! Kids enjoyed the outdoor seating. Waiters were sweet and made sure we got the dessert quickly on request as we were in a hurry to leave. Overall a nice hidden gem of a place in San Ramon :)

Today's special by Preston was such a wonderful surprise. His duck confit is one of the best I had in East bay. Nice crunchy skin and so tender with a perfect cherry Demi glaze. No kidding. And even the mashers were very well done. It was light and not overly buttery. He really does such a good job bringing elevated dishes to a casual golf course setting.

I seriously would go here more since I'm in walking distance but can't muster up the energy. It's so uninviting and mediocre. It's a great place to watch the sunset and when I walk my dog at the end of the day I want to sit have a glass of wine. A half glass (3oz?) for $12? Yeah no. It's Hess, $9 bucks a bottle at total wine. I've eaten here too and like I said it's mediocre. I guess they cater to hungry golfers but the missed opportunity to bring in neighbors is a marketing nightmare.

We love coming here and that they are dog friendly!! Great happy hour and food. We also love Brandon and Jose as our bartenders! Best $8 cosmo / whisky sours out there. Thanks for being a great local spot :)

I really wanted to love this place and I did in terms of service and location it exceeded my expectations. It really does have a beautiful view and everyone who worked there was really attentive. But, the food was just okay. It was nothing special that would make me think of as a first option to have lunch. I would have bumped it up another star for service and location but I couldn't because of the food. We ordered the pasta as well as salad and fries. Fries were undercooked and a lil greasy. Salad greens looked a little old and the pasta had very little flavor. Perhaps we came on an off day but we were not fans.
