I asked if they could make charbroiled beef wrapped onions, a dish I had at another Vietnamese restaurant in the Bay Area.. and the Lotus salad was fresh and delicious.. with a little spice.. Everything was yummy! This is our go to for Vietnamese. Price and quality of food along with the staff is 5 stars"

"After opening two businesses, birthing a child and having one on the way, I don't remember the last time I had the time or energy to write a yelp review but I had to give recognition when it's so well deserved! Our group of 18 walked in earlier tonight and, of course, waited a bit for a table and admittedly, were a bit anxious with our 9 hungry kids. On top of that, coming from Great Wolf Lodge, we consumed nothing but nachos and burgers all day. Also, being Vietnamese, we've had a lot of Vietnamese food all over the world so although we had high hopes for a delicious dinner, we were also prepared for just mediocre food. Tell me why not a single person in our party, big or small, was disappointed in their food? In fact, as I was prepping my two year old's bowl, everyone was taking turns raving about their food! Finally, I tried my filet mignon pho and it was as good as everyone mentioned. The kids slurped up their entire bowls and the adults were happy campers. This will definitely be our go to spot next time we are in the area! Food came out fast, presentation was great and staff was very friendly!"

The Thai tea is pretty good, even without Boba (I know shame on me).Deep fried shrimp rolls were pretty darn good, hot crispy, and just as you'd expect them to be. The combo #1 was solid. Definitely not the best Phó I've had but far from the worst. The broth just needed a little hoisin and siriracha to bump it up a notch. This is one of those places with a fun name. I mean The Phó haha... Has a great name like Phó King (which is amazing btw) down in Monterey.I'll more than likely come back again to try their other phó options and/or grab some spring rolls after a Dr appointment across the road. Sadly, on the Sunday afternoon I stopped by, they were sold out of all their vermicelli and the sandwich I wanted (Grilled Chicken), so I tried the Beef Sandwich instead.I'm from Sac, so we have a lot of good Banh Mi options in the area; personally, I wouldn't come back here for their sandwiches. The bread does not compare to one of my favorite places in the Sacramento area, and the sandwich size was quite small in comparison as well; I'd like to note that it is a bit cheaper for a sandwich from Thanh Thanh though.It's a to-go business. The wait was a bit long, but service was friendly. I do like their vermicelli and would come back for it, but I likely won't try coming back without calling ahead first since I'm not a close distance from Thanh Thanh."

I ordered the Chicken Pho with a Mocha Shake and my husband ordered the Shrimp Chow mein with a Coca-Cola soda! What a combo!I actually like going into places like these... places that would turn off most passers-by. The time was pretty early on a Summer morning, the local Farmer's Market was just setting up, and temperatures were rising as well as the humidity. John's Place had no air circulation at all.I was just going to order a quick American breakfast... eggs and whatever. But I noticed Vietnamese dishes on the right side of their small menu! Ordered some of their Pho... For $5 a bowl, what can go wrong? And my wallet would not be the worse for the experience.The Pho came in a pretty big bowl, but the soup was in one word... Water, just plain water. And not very much meat. I had to stuff my Pho with the sides that came with the Pho... bean sprouts, jalapeno peppers, etc.The waitress came over and apologized for the Pho, explaining that the restaurant had to accommodate the tastes of it's customer base... who disliked unusual spices. The waitresses were nice enough and attentive... But one visit is enough for me.Hope yelpers appreciate this review... took a body shot for the home team with this visit!Update 12-22-2007I was going to get more records from the County Recorder's office and thought to myself "Where to go to eat?". After the initial review of John's Place, I received a message from another Yelper to try John's Place a second time... that the first time was an anomaly. OK... let's try this one again....Disappointment #1:Ordered a Three Meat Omelette. Let me ask you a question... If you saw Three Meat Omelette on the menu... what would you think? You would think, like I thought, "Wow, an Omelette with three kinds of meat!" You'd be totally wrong!Once the waiter (maybe owner) asked me what kind of meat I wanted, I knew this was NOT a Three-Meat Omelette. It was a Single Meat Omelette from a choice of three kinds of meat: Linked Sausage, Ham, or Bacon. Ordered the Bacon (SIGH!).Disappointment #2:Once the Omelette came... it looked pretty good. As I took my first bite, I said to myself: "Where's the Hell is the f****** BACON?!?!?!" I looked inside the Omelette and found bits of Ham and Bacon. What the heck kind of Bacon were they using?Minor Disappointment #1:Hash Browns under cooked. Still edible, but definitely needed a few more minutes on the Grill.Minor Disappointment #2:New sign on the wall... Only 1 refill of Coffee per cusotmer. WTF?!?!? I don't drink that much Coffee anyway... but what if I did?Rating does not change one bit! This is definitely my last visit."

Lots of Pho and Ramen combinations, but it was nice to see to they also serve Chinese dishes like, Chow Fun, Chow Mein and stir fried items.I ordered a large Pho with both Rare and Flank Steak, Brisket, Tendon and Tri Tip. I also ordered Beef Spring rolls for the wife and I to share. The wife ordered a small Pho with Beef.The Pho made it to the table within 10 minutes of our orders and it was piping hot. When you arrive, ring the doorbell because they're in the back cooking.Tip: arrive early to check-in. The food is made to order (kind of) even when you order in advance. I think they do this because many people order and sometimes don't come pick up. I checked in about 45 minutes early and they had my order ready by noon and I paid when I came back to pick up. It was perfect because I needed to grab some last minute items from other places in the area!I ordered Banh Cuốn a couple days in advance for Christmas Eve and picked up by noon. It was done on time and came with all the fixings (sliced cucumber, bean sprouts and nước mắm) to go. The Large tray was $80 and we were barely able to finish among the 14 of us, since we had other items.The Banh Cuốn was freshly made to order, batter was thin and delicious. Accompany with the fish sauce and some veggies on top. It's one of my favorite dishes to get for catering.My cousin ordered the Banh Beo which looked amazing. They even make soups! I'll definitely have to try other items for our next party or event!"

The flavors were good, but the batter was raw due to them cooking at a high temperature. It turned out to be our least favorite dish. My boyfriend loved their pho "all the way" with oxtail, stating the broth was the best part. I ordered shrimp pho, but it turned out to be vegetable pho with shrimp and brisket. It looked like the best combo for what I wanted. I also asked for iced tea. They should have had more on the menu. I was actually looking for com dia/rice plate. The menu was unusual for a VietNamese restarant, but at least, I found something I wanted.In just a few minutes more, both items were at my table. That's quite impressive, although I was the only customer at the time.For a medium bowl, I thought it quite large. It reminded me of a place down south, Pho Super Bowl, where the large bowl was enough to host an event of its own.The broth was good, the noodles were separated, and there was a bit of shrimp, squid, fish balls, but the crab didn't quite have the right texture. I wanted fish today, so having a bit of painted red fish was okay. The iced tea was fine, also.The restaurant doesn't look as good as it might. I sat at table 1, and I think that's probably where staff eats, so that makes sense why the supplies weren't quite full. Still, there was enough for me to use and that's what really matters.The price was good and the service was friendly."

I've tried the grill pork, grill chicken and combination sandwiches. Combination was somewhat plain. Grill pork was a little fatty to my liking. I prefer the grill chicken sandwich. Portion size is right on. Meat and vegetables were proportionate. Love how fresh and crunchy the bread is. I also got Vietnamese ice condensed coffee which tasted like how it should, strong. Overall I would come back again to try other items on the menu/off menu."
