It was really sad to be leaving lessons one day and overhear the instructor talking about how much he doesn't like teaching and that he is going to "retire" after this season. Fortunately he was the instructor we liked the least so maybe we wont have him next year. The price and location work for us so we will come back and we really like the pool itself. Hopefully we'll get better instructors next year. Its a great pool to just come and swim or have your littles go to the activity pool."

Its a very inexpensive way to keep the kids cool, have some fun during summer! The only reason I cant give it 5 starts is because my daughter booked a private party here and they double booked, we ended up having to share the rental with another family and that turned out to be a BIG MESS."

My experience from this place has primarily been with the EGAC Gator Swimming Club and it really is an awesome facility with great staff.I've also rented the facility for a private event and it was also a great experience being able to rent out the pools.During the summer there are three separate areas that you can use for rec swimming but also have the ability to rent all 3. Also included are two slides, a lazy river and a play area for kiddos besides the two other pools. These facility also had multiple rooms to rent and various facilities throughout. Bella E. "My family has lived in the neighborhood for decades and we have seen such a disappointing decline in the quality, upkeep, and service at this pool.My parents own a home literally down the street from the pool and right around the corner from them, my sister and brother-in-law own a home. My permanent address is my parent's home as I am a student and have been traveling. On a recent occasion, I brought my nephew to the swimming pool and was greeted by a very unpleasant teenager/lifeguard. When I told her which house I was from, she said I couldn't come to the pool because I wasn't the "homeowner". This is when I preceded to ask her whether or not she would allow a wife in if the home was in her husband's name and her response - no. I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! I then showed her my license with the home address on it - which she wouldn't accept. My nephew (poor thing) was burning in the sun the whole time because the entryway is not shaded.I had to call my mother (who was busy taking care of things around the house) to come down to the pool so I could get in. During the time I was waiting on my mother, two young boys (maybe 10 years old) came in and signed the guestbook and were directly let in - I guess they must have been the "homeowners"! Finally, my mother arrived to the pool and signed the book. The lifeguard said nothing - didn't even ask my mother one question about her home address, whether she was the owner - nothing! She just let us right in after that. I could have literally had someone come in off the street and scribble in the book. I don't see what the point of her reluctance was!I decided to let that slide and have a good time with my nephew. This was his first time in the "big kid" (aka adult) pool, so I kept him with me at all times and brought a pool noodle to help teach him to paddle. The same lifeguard then came over and told me the noodle was not allowed in the pool. I told her I had been coming to the pool for years and that that had never been a rule. She mentioned that it was in the "neighborhood agreement/contract", so I asked to take a look at this contract. I showed her that nowhere in the document did it say noodles or pool toys were not allowed - it only said "no inflatable flotation devices allowed" (such as pool rafts, floaties, etc.). I explained to the girl that noodles do not require air and are therefore not inflatable, to which she said nothing, so I continued to swim. A little while later, I decided to get my nephew an ice cream. I asked the same girl if they had ice cream, which they didn't. Instead they had popsicles which was totally fine. I ordered 1 popsicle, which cost 25 cents each. I only had a $10 bill so I asked for change. She said they didn't have change, but that she had $6 dollars on her. I said fine and paid $4 for a 25 cent popsicle and let the girl keep the change. The next day I came back to the pool with my nephew and the same girl was working there. And guess what - the same thing happened again with her! I couldn't believe how rude these employees could be - surely she must have remembered the ridiculous fiasco she had created the day before. This place needs an ADULT on site at all times to watch the employees. I don't think this place is run appropriately or professionally whatsoever. The really sad part is that the woman who runs this pool lives across the street from my sister and we've literally never seen her at the pool except one time to drop off water. It's so sad to see what used to be a nice neighborhood pool go so far downhill in such a short time. Hopefully this will turn around soon and they can train the employees to understand customer service! After all - my family is paying for this service!!"

They have two pools - an outdoor on and an indoor one. They call it "Open Air" but the fact is, it's indoors. They have a bunch of limitations on availability for the Outdoor Pool. But I'm retired and every time I look to reserve a lane there is ALWAYS times available. They keep the temperature of the pool nice - even in the colder times. The place is well kept. The gym is nice. They have plenty of treadmills. bikes and elliptical machines, they have a full line of exercise equipment and weight machines and every time I'm there it's never crowded. They have tennis courts, pickle ball courts, basketball court, jacuzzi and a wading pool. It's a little pricy - but everything seems to be these days. They have a HUGE schedule of classes and events. They have classes from A to Z (Ab Blast to Zumba) and everything in between. They have special events like Parent's night Out. There's a childcare area so the Parents and work-out with crafts and fun things to do, a kids play area with a slide and stuff. They have a bunch of Barbecues to use so you can set up a party with your family on the beautifully kept lawns. They have a swim team, swimming lessons, even a book club. Just about anything you want to do. Everyone that works there is always friendly with a smile and a greeting. They are always looking to be as accommodating as possible. I know that public pools are cesspools of diseases, bacteria, children's (and hopefully not adults') bodily fluids, etc. However, I like to live dangerously. Anyhow, my husband and children like to live life on the edge too, so on this super hot day, we came to swim. ;o) We purposely avoided Wackford pool, even though it's much newer, so we had no idea what to expect coming to this older swim center here. Pleasantly surprised that this pool isn't as old as I thought it would be. There's one large pool, with the shallow end sectioned off for little ones, and then the deep end is made available only to those who do not use some kind of swim device (life jacket, floaties, etc.) They have life jackets for little ones which were in pretty good condition. We had a great time trying to teach the kids to swim and having fun splashing and swimming. It wasn't too crowded when we got there at 1 pm. The pool opens at noon on the weekends and closes at 5 pm. It's super affordable as they only charge $1 for kids under 5 and $3 for kids (and adults who are kids at heart, haha) 5 and older. Hopefully, that won't change. There's also pretty formidable slide that hubby and I had fun going down again and again (really, we're not adventurers at heart, so just a couple times each). Overall, we had a great time and plan to come back again. Glad there's a no frill but lots of thrills swim center in Elk Grove."

Jana Leigh T. "I really feel safe and comfortable at this community pool. That's saying a hell of a lot actually....After months and months of reclusiveness it would take the need of our daughter who didn't know how to swim to force me out of the house and into a public place for an extended period of time to do the trick.Actually if this child was biologically sprung from my loins she would have been swimming from birth. Yet I digress......There's noting worse and more dangerous then a child that cannot safely and confidently swim and hold their own in a body of water. Having said this I'm relieved to say that just after 4 trips in one week together the kid is now swimming under water, floating on her back and can swim on her back as well as dog paddle and freestyle swim the width of this spaciously clean well maintained pool.Cottage Pool is manned by at least 4-5 lifeguards each time they are opened for business. And the lifeguards rotate the parameter of the pool in an organized clockwork fashion every so many minutes and really monitor the pool as well as water slide area with a watchful eye...Every 45 minutes they blow their whistles and boot very one but anyone 18 and older outta the pool for a full 15 minutes of "adult only swim time".I like this as it gives me and our girl a chance to take a break, eat and rehydrate before jumping back in.Yes there is a water slide however in order for anyone under the age of 18 to use it they have to pass a Quick yet efficient swim test in which the person must be able to successfully swim the width of the pool without touching the bottom. If they successfully do so they are immediately issued a personalized "pass" card authorizing them to hit the slide where a lifeguard is stationed at the top of its ladder monitoring access to it.The current is swift at the bottom of this slide which I appreciate as it teaches people and kids how to swim in moving water too. There's a diving board as well which is roped off in a secured area at the farthest end of the "L" shaped pool. Here's some more helpful data:Pool availability schedule changes throughout the year:From June 8, 2015 to August 14, 2015 it's open for public swimming from 1pm-4pm MONDAY-FRIDAY 2:30-5:30PM SATURDAY & SUNDAY.From August 15, 2015 - September 7, 2015 it's open WEEKENDS Only from 2:30-5:30 PM.* Sept. 8, 2015 Labor Day; they will be open from 1-4 PM.Fees: $2.50 per person BUT they do sell a "20 Visit Punch Pass" for $40 and $36 if you're a resident of the area. However the only way to find out if you're a resident is to either call the District office at: 916-927-3802 or visit them in person @ 2201 Cottage Way, Sac.You can buy a punch pass at the gate of the Cottage Pool but it's cash only; ATM/Credit Card purchases are accepted at the district office listed above.Another cool thing to note is that the punch card pass can be used for multiple people so you don't have to buy one for each family member. They are good for the "current season only"You may be wondering: is this woman an employee there???? Ummm no no I'm not but I did intentionally observe and learn as much as I could and can about this business as I want to get the most bang for my buck and know what's available and its workings.Located right down the street from the Walmart off of the corners of Watt Avenue & Cottage Way access to it is a dream and super easy with free parking too and access to the park attached to this community pool. Bathrooms have been super clean and well stocked too unlike so many public pools can be where it looks like bombs went off in there including the floating turds left by its previous user.Or the soupy water soaked TP covering the bathroom floors; Yuck! Still have PTSD flashbacks of these scenes from my childhood at the local plunge.....So far none of this and it's been a solid week of daily visits here.Plus +1!Pack your sunscreen, snacks, towels and plenty of water as they allow you to bring stuff in just no booze; Signs are everywhere. And they super chlorinate and condition the pool water so goggles are a great idea if you like to swim under water as I didn't have them the first day and my eyes were killing me the rest of the day and night.I'd give 5 stars as I really do LoVe this place BUT I dislike how during the hottest months of the summer they cut the schedule to weekends only."

A good place to enjoy and burn some calories with your family without worrying putting on some sunblock or having chills during winter for sure! The only room for improvement that I did notice is that two of their windows are broken and won't close and that made the area we are staying in much cooler which was a concern having an infant with us. On numerous occasions I have had smaller if not 1-to-1, swim lessons for my children. I can't even compare the experience here to the RAC because it's much more intimate here. I am referring to the little ones, not the big kids. Sure it's an older pool on the older side of Roseville, so I know that's the first deterrent for a few "newbies / snobberellis." If you need a cutsie place to go to, I suppose you will be turned off by the place (and indeed go to the RAC or Central Pool) ~ RE: Shade I am not sure what others are talking about ... because there is plenty of covered seating for how small the place is ... it's no more a cement sun garden than the other place. I have jousted for shade space at the RAC as well. There are no fancy slides, nor olympic size pool, nor zero depth walk-in here (which is indeed awesome at the RAC) but I am here for lessons and it feels less chaotic here when talking about swimming lessons for the little ones. Central park is awesome for poor weather swim lessons and lessons period (what a GORGEOUS place, but it does get really loud) :-) We have done swim lessons at all three locations and they reacted much more confidently at this location. I am not saying you will think it's pretty, but it's what works for us. I wouldn't come here on a family-open-swim night. It's too small. Major chaos."

I can't tell you how many lazy summer weekends I've spent here or in surrounding McKinley park. The pool is both large enough for a swim meet and extensive lap swimming or, on most days, divided into sections so swimmers can swim, jumpers can jump and kids can laugh and splash. There is a nice kiddie pool as well. Facilities aside, I do have issues with the lifeguard staff, who seem to have been trained to be overly cautious. I'm all for safety, but when I, a grown man and expert swimmer get scolded by a teenage lifegaurd for holding my breath too long underwater because it's a "breathe game," things are starting to border on ridiculous. Not to mention kids are no longer allowed to dive and apparently it's a no-no to lift my baby above my head when in the water.
