"It's a nice little getaway in the middle of downtown Oakland. Came here for the UC Berkeley hockey games and at times it was free at times it was just five dollars for students. It's got everything you need to enjoy your time watching an ice hockey game. The concession stands are pretty standard. I did not see any alcoholic beverages but that was not my main focus. As it gets pretty chilly inside, there's many hot foods and drinks. There's two rinks in the venue. Going in from the entrance to the right is where I've seen the common people recreationally skate and to the left is where the clubs, colleges, and I think the NHL half way owns it, not too sure but it's what I've observed while attending games. There's plenty of rental skates to rent for your use and freestyle on the ice.Very easy to get to by train or bus."
"It's a pretty cool ice rink. They were at Streets of Brentwood before and now located here in Pittsburg. The place is big and spacious. There's an outdoor restroom (2) and 2 porto potty as well. They're good for parties. They accommodated my sister in law for her daughter's birthday. There's lots of tables and chairs and benches. We had a big tent all to ourselves because no one else reserved. We had the tent for 2 hours and came 30 minutes to set up. There's lots of people but not crowded at all. You don't have to make reservation and just look for empty benches and set up there too if you'd like. You can bring your own drinks and food. There's lots of parking and their location is close to a lot of restaurants. It was very cold so I suggest to bundle up."
"Be prepared for this place is busy. One of my youngster cousins wanted his birthday party here. Good choice!! My family and I had a rollicking good time at this coolest place in town. The attitude you bring with you makes all the difference in the experience. The wait staff was warm, friendly, welcoming, courteous, organized, helpful, professional, advised us of all the current specials, adequate for all our skating needs, adequate at serving us, and newbie and disabled-friendly. Here the owner has developed work systems that dignify work and dignify individuals. It's open year-round to host hockey, figure and public skating activities along with birthday parties, hockey and figure lessons, hockey leagues, synchronized skating teams, broomball, curling, school field trips, summer camps and more. What this business did in stark contrast to many businesses I've frequented lately:Is energy-efficient. A magazine, `Energy Users News' called Skatetown Ice Arena, winner of the 1999 Commercial Building of the Year, "the most energy-efficient facility in the nation." Skatetown, a 62,000 square feet building, uses an elaborate computer system to monitor climate, a recycling system for water used to make ice, energy efficient lights and other sophisticated techniques. Was newbie and disabled-friendly.No automatic gratuity was added to our bill. We just don't pay any added automatic gratuity or merchant fees as we pay only for what we had bargained for upfront and received. No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. FTC forbids the use of fake testimonials as are illegal under Section 5 of the FTC Act 15 USC 45 as they are using unfair or deceptive acts or practices in or affecting commerce. No one here hassled us about my Service Dog or the Veterans' accouterments I adorn her with lavishly. I don't think anyone even noticed my Service Dog entering, under the table, or leaving. The owners of this business like their Freedom so they have a Military and Veterans Discount as a thank you to Veterans with a publicly disclosed daily Veteran Discount which provides resource to ensure Veterans (rare 7% of the population) and GIs (rare one-half of one percent of the population) opportunity to participate in American Dream Veterans and GIs' sacrifices have made possible for 100% of the population.I'll be back."
"DGD the Elder had her birthday party here. She is very athletic, and this suited here perfectly. The staff was helpful and friendly. The kids had a blast.Remember to dress warmly.Love the buckets for the learners! They did not have those when I tried ... long ago.Large Party was scheduled just as we were supposed to finish, so we had to exit the ice 15 minutes early for the Zamboni to groom the ice. This group also made it very difficult to exit the room. Perhaps scheduling groups so closely timed is not the best idea.Fun party anyway."
"We went on a Littles Skate session which was for ages 5 and under with an adult accompanying. This was a great idea because the little ones don't have to deal with trying to avoid the big kids or the fast big kids running them over. Most of the 5 and under kids are just learning to get the hang of skating and practically all of them need the skate aid, which is like a skating walker. We had a really good time and I highly recommend the skate aid if it is your young child's first time skating, it gives them confidence to be able to skate long strides without falling down. The ice was not well groomed though and I would say that was the thing that needed improvement. It's hard to skate when there's little breaks in the ice or when it's not smooth. If it wasn't for the skate aids, it would've been a lot harder trying to skate over those little breaks and cracks. They have a parking lot, but it fills up pretty fast so I would say to go early."
"We came again!!! This time on a Friday night!!! At first we thought it was going to be packed but to our pleasant surprise it was not crowded at all There were not that many children here more of the teenager and adult crowd which didn't matter. Our kids skated non-stop without any issues!!Parking wasn't an issue. Getting alcohol or food or drinks weren't an issue too. Our kids and our cousins kids had a blast."
"The ice rink is small but it was not crowded when I went. I ordered tickets on Eventbrite because they only take cash at the location. General admission is $15 and a skate aid is $7. There are lockers to put you shoes and valuables, and you can pay $2 for a lock. This is a great event for the family, but please wear your masks. It was not enforced here."
"Stassa is an amazing instructor and she taught our daughter a ton about ice skating. I'm amazed how far she's come! Stassa even helped her get her skates fit properly and blades ground appropriately. Made a huge difference in her ability to learn the more advanced techniques. Stassa is top notch!"

I had a great experience here!! Was able to book my public skate session online through the website and it made it seamless to start skating right away. You can also pay for your rental online. The public skate rink is pretty spacious and the ice was really fresh when I came. So many diff levels of skaters here from recreational, to comp, to ice hockey players, to just casual ice skaters! Really great facility. A little outdated in terms of things like the bathroom and stuff, but other than that, really great! Be aware that it is only street parking available here!

This is a solid 3 star review of Skatetown Ice Arena in Roseville. The facility is located right off Interstate 80 on the border of Placer and Sacramento County. Skatetown has two hockey rinks that are multipurpose hosting many different ice related adventures. Parking is decent, but can get tight during events. The facility is showing its age, but still delivers a good experience for most. Layout is simple with good signage to find the key features. There is a skate rental shop and a full pro shop selling a lot of ice sport items. You can also stop at the snack bar for typical pizza and fried treats plus cold drinks and beer. You can also take the food and drink into the spectator seating in each rink. The two rinks are where the action happens. Skatetown has an active agenda hosting ice skating, hockey, curling, and birthday parties. Many people get lessons for above too. I attended to see their adult hockey league play. The league play is highly recommended. Attendance is free, but buy something to help the business. Games are about 1 hour, but the rinks are very cold with hard bleacher seating. Bring a jacket and a cushion! The main event is the action on the ice. If you are learning to skate or scoring a goal, this place is awesome. The rest of the facility is rather basic, but it serves the purpose. I am sure many families have fond memories of this place, especially the cold!

We were introduced to Tri Valley Ice by a friend. We are so glad that are our kids are involved in their hockey program. Both our daughter and son are in their travel and in-house teams, respectively. The sport of hockey has brought a lot of physical and social growth to both our kids. They learn new skills in skating and puck handling. At the same time, they learn the value of team sport. Where every person is playing for the team, not for him/herself. The coaches are great at Tri Valley Ice. There is good coordination and a healthy family-like atmosphere. The hockey program is managed by different stakeholders depending on the group or program. But each one has its own unique way of encouraging the kids to learn and be part of a community.I especially love their learn to play hockey program. For $0.00 (Yes, it's free), girls get to try out ice hockey to learn basic skating and stick handling skills. To top it off, they provide fee uniforms to the participants. You can't go wrong with that!

Hate to say it but walnut creek on ice was a BIG disappointment and also I've heard is the best skating experience in the winter which is sad for me as someone who's grown up in seattle. It's pretty small (not as small compared to union square), but the main other issue is that the logistics are pretty bad and they only book the ice for a certain 90 minute increment, which doesn't help because there is no parking within the ice rink / in the park and you have to find somewhere else to go. They also don't regulate the kids / the walkers so we were constantly trying to navigate all of the kids / avoid them while skating and they only zamboni between the 90 min blocks which means that the ice gets REALLY bad. I think it's sort of cute for the vibe but not worth it value wise. They also dont charge less if you dont have the skates and it's kind of expensive tbh, so just go somewhere else if you can.

Roller King really took me back... I love nostalgia and places that take me down memory lane, so this was a great spot for a sixth birthday party. The environment is reminiscent of roller rinks from my childhood in the 70's and 80's. The differences being prices, menu offerings, music, and number of skaters. Prices are not super reasonable. Other reviews talk about the pizza being brought in from Round Table, which is okay, but doesn't allow for last minute additions of pizza. They do play some older stuff: YMCA and Thriller were standouts, but they incorporated more modern stuff into the mix, too. And the rink wasn't nearly as crowded as I remember it being when I was a kid. Staff is friendly. The place, while being pretty old and dated (I'm not complaining), is kept fairly clean. I think this is a great place to show kids how we used to have a good time when we were their age. So, I guess we'll probably be back!

Rain or shine, Brentwood on ice year after year completes the holiday to do list. Make sure you come when there's a DJ in the evening; the price is the same, but the jams make the skate a touch funner. There's a coffee and hot chocolate snack lounge that serves hot food if you want to stay out of the cold. Parking is plentiful and lines are short; what a fun way to spend an evening outside the streets of Brentwood.

"Came here Wednesday before Thanksgiving. It was mostly families with a few teenagers. We specifically chose the San Mateo skate rink as we were coming with our 5 year old and it's her first time skating. There were a good number of other families with young kids on the ice. Their smallest skate size is kids 8. They have ~2 hour open skate windows -- on the day we came, it was 12-2, 2:30-4:30, 5-7pm. You have to buy tickets digitally, but you can do so once you arrive. It was ~$22 per skater (including skate rental) and +$11 (e.g., $33) if you'd like skater + skate buddy option. The skate buddy is great for my daughter. Overall, it adds up quick -- was ~$79 for 2 adults + 1 child. But, it seemed to be priced about the same as other places (like Winter Lodge in Palo Alto, Union Square, San Jose). The front desk and skate rental seems to be run by high schoolers? college kids? Basically, young and polite people, but not particularly empowered if you have any issues / complaints about their rules/facilities.Overall, had a good experience. I'd recommend for families looking for a casual skate outing -- just be aware of the prices as it is a bit pricey for an afternoon."
"Our family of little ones had a blast at this holiday rink! You have to come prepared knowing it's an over crowded space with a majority of the skaters being new to this winter activity! So be patient, have an open mind, enjoy the music or just sit it out if you can't handle chaos! There is a bar if you need a little bit of liquid courage or calming grown up juice! Some tips:1. Reserve your tickets ahead of time.2. Come 30 minutes early to get in line, especially if you would like the skater helpers. There is limited quantity.3. Don't bring a lot of gear, there aren't any cubbies or lockers to put your stuff while you skate. We had a blast, the kids started off shaky and wanting to leave. An hour later became little speed racers!"
"I'm an old man with two young boys and we all love hockey. My eldest of the two boys made the local Colt's hockey team just before COVID. I was thoroughly impressed with the staff and coaches. Everyone here at Oak Park genuinely loves hockey and treats everyone, no matter their skill or lack thereof, with absolute respect and kindness. Now my younger son is here at the rink weekly improving his skills and in the Academy program. Heck, even I've taken to the ice and play the amateur bronze league and I love it. So what about the rink and facility? Well, it's been around a looong time and you can tell. There isn't a huge fancy pro shop, gigantic locker rooms, or a snack bar. What there is though, is a brand new rink put in during COVID that has great ice and very good boards. The boxes are nice and clean. The locker rooms are comfy with new benches and storage. Sure, it's not the greatest rink I've been to but it is a very good rink and facility overall. I've visited all the rinks between San Jose and Santa Rosa and what makes this place different is the great staff, people, regulars, and the new rink. If you're looking to just skate, play hockey, learn some skills, or even just watch, I totally recommend stopping in and giving it a try. Prices are much lower than San Jose, Roseville, or Vacaville and the ice is just as solid if not more so."
"We had a group of 10 kids and everyone had an excellent time. Everyone was skating without supports by the middle of the session too!"
"Our daughter decided to be a big figure skater just 5 months ago. The coaches and training here are excellent. So are their spring break and other kids programs. They really inspire the kids with a positive and supportive spirit that leaves them wanting to do great things. Kudos to the staff here making this a great skating experience."
"Cool family-friendly ice rink in Alameda for the winter. Reservations are needed ahead of time, and this place can sometimes get packed. They really weren't playing about this being a little ice rink, because it's not that big at all. Skate rentals and little animals are available for those who need some additional assistance on the ice (recommend getting the seal if you have multiple kids, because one child can stand and push, and another can sit for the ride. Helmets are also available for kids and adults who may need them (they also Lysol and disinfect them well, for those of you like me concerned with lice). As I mentioned above, the rink is small, so you may get dizzy going around a couple times fast. It also can get crowded, which sucks for little ones who are just learning because everyone is running into each other. Definitely recommend going on a weekday or possibly mid-afternoon to avoid crowds. For those who don't care to skate, there's some pinball machines to check out, and always people watching to do. There's one food truck out front and plenty of seating, for those who worked up an appetite from all that skating. Overall great fun for the kids and the entire family. I do think it's expensive for what you get, especially if going in a group (we paid $65 for 1 adult and 2 kids, plus another $8 per rental of animal skate assists). Tip - fill out the waiver before arriving to save time (and waivers are required for everyone, regardless of whether you are skating)."
"Haven't been here since it was Roller Haven. I'm so glad that this place is still open. Me and a group of friends went for adult night on Sunday. It was so much fun and brought back so many memories!! I will definitely go back to skate again. 4 stars only because the DJ was terrible. He never once played anything upbeat or modern. Even after I asked he played 4 doja cat songs and that was it. Also, they didn't turn there lights off or the disco ball on. We asked and were told that they don't do that when there are a lot of people that can't skate. I get it, but there are signs posted everywhere to skate at your own risk. It would have been fantastic to have that disco ball going! There were only about 15 people there and only about 3 of them couldn't skate well."
"A Most Excellent Rink Space For Skating Fun!SITREPMy lovely friend Bambi hosted a large party of 50 or so people to celebrate her birthday (I won't say which, but it was one ABOVE 50!) THE SETUPOur group took over the rink and Bambi was allowed - for 2 hours - to take over the music selections with her curated mix of Disco, Retro 80s and New Wave song selections.THE CONCESSIONS Honestly, you don't know what to expect, but with $4 Nachos, Slices of Pizza, pitchers of Pespi for only $7 to split out among friends with cups, it was a really good time!THE SKATES!A lot of my peeps obviously have a deep penchant for good skating in their blood and they came with their own AWESOME SKATES! (Just take a look at Matt's "Black Beauties".But The Rink comes well prepared with an inventory of skates for all comers and they had a pair of Men's 14s for me to use!THE RINK!So smooooth, sooo gorgeous, allowing for a large group of people to enjoy skating round and round: first counter-clockwise, and then finishing up clockwise. It's funny how you can feel different leg muscles - and tensions! - being used in the different directions!THE LOWDOWNThe Rink is a great place to skate and I can't wait to go back!"
"A bit dilapidated outside and inside. The installations are definitely run down, the skating rink has patches of scuffs that make it a bit hard to skate over and it is super hot and stuffy inside. Also no AC but fans are on and running. Besides that it is an affordable family or date night activity. The entry prices comes with free skate rentals. The DJ played good music and overall good vibes."
"Jeez, why all the hate for The Golden Skate?Fun?: Hell yes this place is fun! The DJ played great music and took requests. The skating rink itself was well maintained. The rental skates themselves (either blades or quads) were also well maintained. Clean?: I wouldn't eat off the floor of the shitter, but the place is pretty clean all things considered. I will say that although I'm not someone who's hung up on "germs," a few more dispensers of hand sanitizer might have been nice.Expensive?: Ok, yeah, TGS is kind of expensive. But this is the Bay Area, right? Damn right it is. A gallon of gas down the street is 5 bucks and pho for four was about 120. Atmosphere?: It is quaint and wonderfully dated. The sight and feel of this place take you back to a simpler time in your life, and that's cool with me.Yo Haters!! The Golden Skate, contrary to your predictions, remains open. Here's to another 50 years!4 (ahhhh, make that 5)...5 stars!"
"We had the absolute best time! We bought our tickets online and there is a family pack that saves you some money. You can also do the waivers online prior to arriving. The parking was free and in the same vicinity as the ice rink. I imagine when they're super busy people will use the parking garage across the street. We went today & it's been raining pretty much all day today. It wasn't too crowded and it looked like people were celebrating birthdays. There is designated times for each group session. So check online before arriving. Our session time was 230-340pm. We got there a little early and drank hot chocolate in the snack bar area. They also had little areas where you can take photos by a Christmas tree and Christmas decor. After the other session was done they announced for the session to get off the ice and turn in their equipment. Then someone cleaned the ice up and announced for the 2:30 session to get on the ice. We got our skates and we rented two devices to support our kids when they're skating (I don't know what it's called.) we had so much fun skating! A lot of people were falling and getting back up! It was so fun! They also had staff in the ice rink to help people that needed more support in getting up after falling. We can't wait to come back!!!!!!"
"As the closest roller rink to us, this is not a bad experience at all. Fairly good deal, especially regarding children skating for free certain days. Entry for two was $14 on a Sunday night (1/14/24)Employees are young and seem overworked. Could use a morale boost from management!Fairly busy on the night we went, with about 70% kids and 30% adults. Some of those kids are wild on the rink. Our group was 6 people and 4 of us were knocked down by kids. Still has the same old carpet and foot odor smell from years ago. Skate attendant swaps your shoes for the skates to ensure they return at the end of your stay. The location could use a cleaning, but one does sign up for an unclean experience when you plan to go rollerblading.Overall fun! Icee's are refreshing after a long rollerblading session. For local reviews or travel content you can find us on most socials @sunsetourist"
