"H&W Drive In is a cool local spot in Merced. This was not a drive thru fast food restaurant. But, more of a drive in (hence the name) or walk up place. Customers can either drive up to order and have the food delivered to their car. Or, can walk up to the window to place orders to eat at the tables outside or take to-go. The staff was nice. Orders came out quickly.We tried a few of their items - Tuna Sub, Bacon Cheeseburger, Patty Melt, Fries, and Onion Rings. Their fries are crinkle cut in case that matters to you. We enjoyed all of the food. They were all well made and tasty. And the portions seemed to be on the larger size. Prices were quite reasonable. We would go back again if ever in the area."

"Today I returned to the Queen Bean after an absence of many years. I didn't intentionally "stop going" as much as it is not on my daily/weekly routes around town. So this was a special trip for lunch. I ordered the Tuscan sandwich and a Cafe Americano. The ordering process was smooth, the barista said she would bring it out to me, which she did in a reasonable amount of time, even though I had gone outside (there were no seats inside and the front porch seemed a bit warm. The sandwich was well made and the ingredients plentiful and flavorful. I could only eat half as there was that much. I also ordered a bag of jalapeno chips, which were so greasy I was glad that I hadn't used hair gel and now had some place to put the lipids. (The chips were not the fault of the QB, just the dummy who ordered them.)My only comment is that I hope they fix the noisy window AC unit, which impeded my ability to hear the sirens and oversized trucks on Needham revving their engines (this is Modesto after all). Actually, it was a nice lunch, served by nice folks who work for even nicer folks. I may well be back soon, I can't wait for the back decks to be repaired so there is more seating."

The atmosphere was festive with couples and larger groups dressed to celebrate the end of another year.We were seated promptly and proceeded to order pre-dinner cocktails. I then ordered the spinach salad and my husband had the meatballs as our starters. Very good! For dinner I selected the sea bass which was a special and am I glad I did! I absolutely LOVE sea bass and will almost always order it if it is available. This sea bass was served on top of a risotto with asparagus. Divine! My husband had the short ribs which he raved about. Even though we were both pretty full from our meals, we split the tiramisu for dessert which is always a treat!Our server Shawn was a delight. So friendly yet very professional and efficient. We did not have to wait long between courses which was nice. Bistro 234 is one of our favorite places to dine especially when we are celebrating a special occasion or just want a nice date night venue. We can't wait until our next visit!"

The menu board offered a variety of items including a nice selection of sandwiches, soups, salads, espresso drinks, beverages and snacks. Ahead is a very cheerful and clean dining area. Table seating was very well spaced for social distancing and the walls had cheery mural painting. They were about to close shop for the day so the patio seating outside was already put away, otherwise they had a nice outdoor seating under shady trees.We ordered smoothies and my daughter got some cookies to go. The Pokémon-themed cookie caught her eye. My Strawberry Banana Smoothie was delicious and refreshing and hubby enjoyed his Avocado Smoothie. All the sides were freshly fried to order (we had regular krinkle cut fries, curly fries, and jalapeno poppers), and although all were very good next time I would definitely pay the $0.70 to upgrade my combo meal to curly fries. Five Star Burgers truly deserves 5 stars - they are leaps and bounds above all the usual fast food chains!"

"Loved Mr. Pickles and they changed it to the Sandwich Spot. My favorite sandwich was a chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon. Apparently they have new owners and things are not the same. Try the chicken salad sandwich which was boring. Just chicken onions and that's it. Was dry and the onions were sliced on the top, not mixed in with the salad. The new owners have signs all over the restaurant which I think is tacky. Customer service was meh. I love a good sandwich but I don't think I'll be back."

I was hoping it would have a stronger matcha taste but it was better than other matcha drinks I've had. 4.5/5The staff was welcoming when we walked in and the area has about 6 tables or so and the aesthetics are modernized. As we waited for my bagel and drink there appeared to be a lot of regulars getting their coffee fix. I had a good experience, especially since the vegetarian bagel hit the spot just like it did the first time I had it. I was not disappointed with their bagel. It was one of the highlights of this spot."

I can't have sugar so I popped in expecting to get a regular latte like I usually get but decided to ask if they have sugar free options, and found out they have tons! The inside was really nice, they have a bookshelf and tons of seating. Also, I don't know who the artist is but I really enjoyed the hilarious hand-drawn tip sign. Feels like a classic cafe with tons of personality and a great place to chill. Also, my latte came out quick, hot, and delicious. I definitely recommend checking this place out."

I tried some of the clam chowder and the sourdough bread bowl. Although the chowder had a nice clam flavor to it, it was a little flour-clumpy. Not great. The bread was decent; crusty on the outside, soft and spongy on the inside, but didn't have much of a tang. Still prefer the sourdough bread from Boudin. The cookies here are the soft-baked cookie type, like eating a muffin but in cookie form. The chocolate chip one tasted like what you'd expect and the lemon white chip one tasted like a lemon pound cake (didn't taste much of the white chocolate). The cookies were a bit too sweet for my liking overall.Eh, I'd say that it's not a bad place if you're in the area and are specifically craving for the kinds of food offered here."
