Michelle L. "Great spot. Park in the Del Meyer lot off of Elk Grove-Florin Road, or at the other end off of Waterman Road. Paved trail along the creek, waterfowl in the morning, mostly ducks and egrets. The trail passes under the railroad tracks, and also has arteries from neighborhood cul-de-sacs, and the bridge to Jack E. Hill Park with restrooms, playground, etc. about halfway along the trail. Lots of walkers, runners, dog-walkers, stroller-walkers, bicyclists. Picnic bench under a grand oak tree for when you need a break. Sometimes even spot people fishing in the creek. It's about 2.5 or 3 miles roundtrip and a decent place to get those early steps in."

Shelli H. "It was hot and we were visiting the area. My husband used his mapping skills and found this area by the water. When we arrived I was stunned it was so empty! Not a huge fan of trying to relax amidst a ton of people. There is a 6 dollar per car entrance fee. There were butterflies everywhere. It is a put it here for the rafters. It is located at the south fork of the American river which I have rafted many times but never from here. If you haven't rafted the American river I absolutely recommend!Back to the park, there is a grassy area to lay down a towel and have a picnic. I didn't see Bbqs or bathrooms but I didn't look all that hard. The beach area is rocky. Beautiful rocks, most smooth. Perfect for skipping! The water is Cold but that didn't stop us. My daughter in law is very pregnant and her poor feet appreciated the frigid water. The guys, they just jumped in. I edited real quick to add, if you get in know that the water is moving fast. Be aware. Next time we come I will bring some chairs. You can also pan for gold here if you desire. Pet friendly! Wonderful spot to cool off and listen to the water I tell ya!"

It's very well shaded and situated in a beautiful neighborhood. Highly recommend!"

The Bay Trail from Hercules also ends here.At low-tide fishermen walk out into the bay to catch sturgeon and they also fish from the shoreline. There is an attractive grassy area; there are a few picnic tables and barbecue stations. There is also access to a small sandy beach and a view of the marshland at the estuary as well as clear views of the bay and the hills on the opposite shore. This park is truly stunning at sunset, and I always rush here with my camera if it appears there's going to be a colorful sunset."

It's was opened years ago and when we came at that time we were unimpressed with the many, MANY signs all over indicating things you cannot do at the park like "eat sunflower seeds" and the fact that no dogs were allowed anywhere. However, when you visit now you will find a lovely, well manicured park with children playing and people walking their dogs. There will even be dogs off-leash in the grassy are and people walking and rollerblading through the paths. There is a playground but drive slow here as you will also find plenty of children playing in the front yards surrounding the park and even shooting hoops in the street. This is a really nice park and I am glad people have learned to bend the rules to take full advantage of it."

There's no signs.By the time we found the rose garden area, we had walked all over the park and only looked at mustard plants. The roses were all dead in mid-March 2023. Pretty underwhelming. Laura W. "My review is also belated. I had my wedding reception here in June 2007, so things may have changed a little since then. For the price, this place can't be beat. With the hardwood floors, wooden beams and long windows, it's already nice on the inside, but how you decorate it really makes a difference. I've seen pictures of weddings that used plastic table cloths and balloons, and while there's nothing wrong with going that route, it does cheapen the room. Although rental includes the use rectangular tables and brown chairs, we rented our own white chairs and round guest tables. For us, the rectangular tables worked well for the head table, buffet and present tables, but there was no way I was using those ugly brown chairs. We had no problems with the A/C, bathrooms or outlets. We had a lot of stuff plugged in throughout the room, although we did not use the stage. The ovens did have some heating problems, but in the end, everything worked out and our food was hot and delicious. We had round tables set up for 150 or so guests and had plenty of room to move around and dance.Parking is definitely a downside. There is a small lot for the Shepherd's Garden & Art Center behind the park on the 33rd Street side guests can use, but it's first come, first serve. We included a basic wedding map of the area, and some guests still couldn't find the parking lot.Tips for renting this place:- Ensure you have a facility worker nearby to help you with any problems.- If it's summer, book the hall when the pool is closed/or will be closing soon.- Schedule your vendors to arrive extra early because of the parking situation.- Offer a shuttle service from your ceremony site or encourage guests to carpool to the reception.- Keep in mind the time of day. Our reception started around 4:30 on a Saturday in the summer. That was a busy time for the park and parking, but by the time the we came in from doing pictures at another location, things had died down. Our photographer was able to find parking right away to follow us in and document everything."

Feeling joyfully accomplished, I finished attending my necessary doctor's appointment: I opened my truck's driver side door, sat down, turned on the ignition switch, and I began peering down at my truck's gas gauge frowning . . . WAAAAH~What happened?! Didn't I just fill up my truck's gas tank, eh?Well~THAT'S JUST FINE AND DANDY-GRRRRR: I immediately began debating, no~ensuing rebuttal arguments deciding whether I HAD to make a road trip to Bass Pro and Harbor Freight plus, buy gas at Costco located in Roseville CA . . . Hemming, hawing with two imaginary beings plopped onto both my shoulders debating, arguing making the necessary road trip incited my plotting, lame excuses driving to Roseville . . . ANYWAY~Eye-rolling and tap dancing ensues, again . . . Yeah BUT, driving down Highway 50 every single, fricken time is beyond egregiously BORING! Let's do something different, alright? ALRIGHT! Ok~Let's take WHITE ROCK EXIT from Highway 50 turning right, since you never drove this parkway: Drive a few miles, turning left onto Green Valley, making a quick right onto Salmon Falls Road driving a PLETHORA of miles to IDK and I don't care, road trip!OH~Rattlesnake Road and Highway 49!!???? WOT????Am I near Peninsula Campground???? Didn't I make the same countless mistakes driving this stretch of road in the dark on July 4, 2016? YAH~IGNORE GPS LEE GARMIN! Instead, follow the signs to Peninsula Campground and update your YELP REVIEW! OK~Stellar plan! Upon committing driving this stretch of road, noticeably apparent-the asphalt has been upgraded-finally . . . Pleasantly pleased.About twelve minutes later, I arrive at Peninsula Campground's Kiosk: I submit my Veteran's Park Pass and my Military ID Card to the two Rangers on duty; I received my truck's Park Pass placing it onto my truck's windshield and more importantly, I received an updated map of Folsom Lake, too.BTW: VETERANS~AVOID RESERVE AMERICA'S CAMPING RESERVATION FEES BY CALLING PENINSULA KIOSK INSTEAD . . . Call Rangers inquiring what campsites are available before leaving your house in order, avoiding paying the $7.00 chump fee! In addition, the BEST DAYS camping at Peninsula Campground are Sunday through Thursday evenings but, make sure you quickly begin checking out EARLY Friday morning. Why? Because it's crucially imperative checking out early due to Rattlesnake Road is quite treacherous with inconsiderate people driving on the asphalt AS IF, ASSUMING they're the only humans driving Rattlesnake Road, i.e., please do avoid car accidents!Incidentally, observing the map while visiting the Day Use Boat Ramp Area playing, splashing my feet into Folsom Lake, I noticed Peninsula Campground hasn't added additional showers! WHY NOT? From my July 4, 2016 disappointing camping experience here, I sadly discovered the only showers available were adjacent to Campsites 74 through 82~RATS! As a result of observing Folsom Lake's updated map today-4/18/2019, I decided photographing the campsites surrounding the bathroom/shower facilities while visiting Peninsula Campground. Please stringently study the map and ALL the photos I took of each campsite so, you'll make an informed decision for your family the campsite's location where you wish camping comfortably.FYI: Peninsula Campground has TWO boat ramps. The second boat ramp is near Campsites 55-100. Campsites 30 through 73 are not flat, i.e., STEEP hillsides! I spent four hours here . . . Now, my stomach is growling~Time to head towards Roseville!"

The grass is typically very high and, when they do get around to mowing, they leave the grass clippings behind. There are no play structures but there is a basketball court (in need of maintenance), a gazebo and plenty of open grassy area. When they built this place, there was apparently an agreement that prohibited youth sports teams from practicing or playing games here. It has no restroom, no play area, and no BBQ pits. It has a couple of picnic tables under a big beautiful sprawling low branching tree. So what does the park actually have and why the heck would anyone go visit it?!?!! Well, the park is actually an outdoor display of historical mining equipment with information boards full of historical facts and archive photographs. Basically a free outdoor museum! Awesome use of open public space and retired mining equipment. It's worth a stop if you are already in the area and appreciate history.Actually the small country town of Sutter Creek is itself a California historical landmark. The old town is a modern refined tourist trap with modern posh boutiques, shops, and eateries; it has a historical charm of the 19th century gold mining California town. The Main Street has its wooden sidewalk and Americano turn of the century look. I call it Main Street but it's officially called old route 49. Nearby homes are older beautifully refurbished Victorians maintained by private residences. Sutter Creek still flows through old town, site of the gold panning days of yore. The Main Street is on the old route 49. The new route 49 was built about 10 years ago that rerouted it away from driving through town. #suttercreekminersbendhistoricalpark"

Kenneth K. "YEE Hah ! Finally a Western Theme Park here in Elk Grove ! Horseshoe Park has finally opened to the public. The park is part of the Cosumnes Community Service District and is 9 acres in size.Only the picnic and play areas are open at this time. Construction is still in progress on the basketball courts, baseball diamond, open space area and walking / jogging trial. The picnic areas are in two separate areas, both having shaded picnic tables and the larger picnic area having BBQ's.Other great features of the park are that , they have a parking lot, 2 play structures for both younger and older kids to play, 2 tennis courts, 4 horseshoe courts, rock climbing , exercise equipment, and many more activities related to the Western Theme.I am so glad this park is close to home ! Can't wait for the rest of the park to be completed. Got to saddle up and ride into the sunset ! Getty - Up !!!"

Willow Creek Recreation Area

Willow Creek Recreation Area

Bridget W. "Willow Creek is a fantastic place to launch your kayak or SUP and is the halfway mark along the length of Lake Natoma. It's a much smaller access point than Nimbus or Black Miners Bar (formerly Negro Bar) and has considerably less water traffic, likely due to the tiny dock and shallow cove. Larger watercraft, like sailboats, can't launch from here. Parking can be challenging because the lot is so much smaller compared to the other launch points and fills up very early. If you snooze you might lose, so I recommend getting there before 9am on a weekend. If you're launching your kayak or SUP from Willow Creek it's a breeze for staging. You are mere footsteps from the parking lot to the dock, with bathrooms and trash cans also close by.There are two large, covered group picnic areas and also a couple of shaded picnic benches at this recreation area to enjoy your lunch. Or better yet, paddle across from the dock to the island and climb up to the top to have a great panoramic view of Lake Natoma. Don't forget your Golden Poppy Pass to be able to park for free!"

Bobbie R. "A nice paved trail connected to Laguna Creek Park. Enter on Jacinto Rd. Connected by the foot bridge. A quiet area surrounded by residential streets. Nothing overly exciting. There is some wildlife here and there; egrets, various birds. A little piece of wilderness in the burbs."

Isaac A. "One of the best parks that I've ever been to. I have an 19 month old and we're always looking for places to go out to keep her entertained. She was a little young for the play structures, but there were multiple playgrounds and a separate swing area. A lot of novel materials and ideas used for the playground that aren't as common in traditional playground. There's also a large field nearby if your kid wants to run around. The animal farm was also a lot of fun with up-close views of rabbits, pigs, peacocks, turkeys, and chickens! Lastly, the restrooms were pretty clean for public restrooms. Would definitely make the 15 minute drive to come back when we're in the area again!"

Cosumnes River Preserve

Cosumnes River Preserve

Donovan H. "If you're looking to take an afternoon stroll surrounded by peaceful, serene nature, the "Cosumnes River Preserve" just might be the place for you. Having lived in the Sacramento area since the early-2000's, it took me just over 20 years to pay a visit to this place. Located in an unincorporated area of southern Sacramento County, the easiest way to find this place is by taking I-5 to Twin Cities Road and then Franklin Blvd south. The area itself is east of Walnut Grove, west of Galt, and south of Elk Grove.I came here during the afternoon of Saturday June 4, 2022 at around 3:00pm. Since it was an overcast day, I felt it would be ideal conditions to go on a 2-hour hike to get my daily steps and calories in. What is really great about this place is that the main parking lot is absolutely FREE while offering an abundance of available spots that make this one of the easiest places to enjoy a scenic walk. Additionally, there are two public restrooms, a visitor center, and plenty of maps at the entrance exactly showing you where to go. They also include detailed signs directing you to various destinations including the Wetlands Walk, River Walk, and Visitor Center. Keep in mind that since this is a preserve, pets are not allowed so make sure to leave your four-legged pooch at home.I particularly liked this trail area since there wasn't a whole lot of people, even on a Saturday afternoon. There are paved roads to walk on as well as many dirt trails that can go in different directions. The entire roundabout of the trail area covers about 4 miles of walking distance. During this outdoor adventure, I was able to see several bird species (including a white egret, sparrow, and a goose), rabbits, squirrels, lizards, butterflies, and even a snake. The area that covers the actual Cosumnes River as well as the marshland swamp area usually has lots of ducks in a row. This is also a very popular destination to go kayaking and canoeing. Much of the water is very murky so it may not be the cleanest. I would also recommend coming here during the earlier spring months as many of us know how little amount of rain California receives to fill up its rivers and creeks. All in all, the "Cosumnes River Preserve" is a relaxing, tranquil, and peaceful way to bring out the nature in anyone. And if you're looking to capture that perfect sunset, make sure to come during the right time in the evening. My rating, an above average four stars."
