One of the Delta's best boating destinations, VWMR offers safe berthing, easy access to fun on the water, and onsite dining & drinking. However, this boater recently discovered their waterfront bungalows...well-appointed interiors with a fantastic private deck outside. You can fish off the deck, fire up the furnished grill, keep the beer cold in the full-sized frig, and use the free internet to post photos of yourself having fun. Now they also have a classy RV park where every caravan is on the water. The excellent staff adds to the experience."

Chris is the skipper on the Silver Fox, and between he and Jeff, he deckhand/assistant, the best word to describe them is personable...they take care of you...from checking your bait, to making sure you know how to land your fish, and then...(like today) when there was some extra fish caught, they shared it with those who had not caught any. As I write this, I am savoring a fillet caught today in the beautiful Pacific ocean."

Ben A. "If you're in your boat... in the Sacramento River... and you're near Walnut Grove... and you have a hankering for ice cream or pizza... and it's before 7 PM... you're in luck! The Walnut Grove Public Dock is a clean, large mooring facility to park your watercraft for a spell, while you head into town or enjoy one of the businesses close to the dock. And did I mention: it's free! There's a fee for overnight tie ups, but during the day, it's like parking your car on the curb.On our recent camping trip just down the rover from Isleton, our group took a flotilla of boats to the ice cream place at the dock. Summer conditions in the delta made the water warm and relatively clear, and the kids tubes and wake boarded on the way up the river to Walnut Grove. We tied up to the dock, gorged on sweet treats, and returned for a sundown boat ride back.Apparently, fishing used to be allowed here; not anymore. In fact, there are lots of rules posted here, almost comically... and there's room on the wall for more rules to be posted at the whim and fancy of the city council.Definitely a different way of living than our SoCal freeway lifestyle."

Kristy L. "First timer here at Lake Camanche and it was definitely above expectations! I kept my expectations low prior to arrival but once my friends and I pitched tents and started swimming + using the other amenities, I realized it's so much better than other sites I had visited before. Despite the blazing summer heat, it was a good time. First would like to address that we're in the wilderness and in nature, people! Bugs and other nature related issues ARE to be expected. It's funny that some people think the sites could regulate the amount of bugs or something when it's a part of nature. Maybe different parts of the site had more than others, but near 120s we had the normal flies, bees, ants, small creatures roaming. Nothing that bug spray or swatting couldn't fix. The restrooms and showers are not janky, they're obviously not ideal either, but I was so grateful to even have the ability to shower daily. That said, I think the men were a little annoyed that only one shower was working at the time but still were happy because one shower is better than none.Anyway, the campsites are huge depending which spots you reserve! Really enjoyed having a private enough area for me and my friends to camp at, and we were just two levels above the lake. The views are amazing, especially at night. My friends and I experienced little to no issues at the campgrounds, parking was easy and we enjoyed our time there! We will definitely be back in the future and I am thankful that the rangers came around to inspect often. There were some issues with other campers, but those were dealt with in timely manner. Thank you Lake Camanche!"

This was the first year we went with Golden Eye and we will definitely be calling them again next year. The Golden Eye 2000 is a beautiful vessel with a lot of room. Being a catamaran, it glides through the waves like a mermaid and you don't get a lot of the rocking motion like with regular boats. Not that I get sea sick or anything, but some of the weenies in my company do. Quang had a few choice spots he took us to that proved very good fishing. Ling cods and several species of rock cods galore were FLYING out of the water. Frank was running all over the boat helping folks bring in their little lovelies."

Jim R. "We stayed at the campground for two nights starting 8/12/16, in tents. Other than a neighboring spot with some noisy occupants, and the almost constant presence of yellow jacket wasps (called Meat Bees by pretty much everyone around here, more on that later), I'd give it a solid 5 for what it is. What is it? It's a typical Cali campground... paved roads and spots, vault toilet (ie, no flushy flushy), spigots with drinking water here and there... tables, fire rings, bear boxes, and cooking grills at each spot. Lots of fine dirt that gets in everything of course. Beautiful clear lake that allows motorized boats. Good swimming with a gradual deepening shore... good for kids... bring your water socks, lots of rocks. No poison ivy or oak. Oh, and there are no fish in the lake. I know this because I didn't catch any. Jus' sayin'.We didn't see any bears and the park attendant said they'd hadn't seen any this season yet. There were, however, tons of meat bees who, shockingly, like meat... and the occasional sweet treat. Cooking eggs? No big deal. Pancakes? As long as there's no syrup. Bacon? Well, that's where the comparison flips. If you're cooking, eating, or even looking longingly at any bacon in any form then there'll be a meat bee right there looking with you. Okay, not so much looking but more of a crawling, sniffing, licking, chomping, carrying off bits type of thing happening. And to be (hehe "be") perfectly clear, it won't just be one meat bee but a whole family unit which consists of everything within a 20th cousin 50 times removed sort of vibe. The meat bees are actually yellow jacket wasps and, get this, they not only sting... and as you all know wasps can sting as many times as they can plant their little yellow and black booties firmly onto your soft fleshy skin... but they also bite. Yes, you heard it right, they bite. So they could literally decide to bite you, which in itself is pretty painful and lasts at least a day, but after biting you they could decide to throw in a few extra stings free of charge. But here's the deal, not everyone gets the attention of these little guys. Of our party of 7 only 4 got bit and no one got stung. Kinda like those people who don't get stung by mosquitoes... maybe. The two things that got people stung were being mean to the wasps (unintentionally)... ie: waving frantically, moving really quickly, accidentally grabbing them (while grabbing a half full trash bag)... and "tasting" good. Now, this is just my personal opinion of the reasons, but all 5 bites (yes, someone was bit twice) I think can be narrowed to these things. I think one person had some pancake syrup on their hand and, since the person tasted sweet and was made of meat of course, this was too good a situation for the wasp to pass up.I think it was manageable... of course, I wasn't one of the ones who were bit either, but generally if you didn't have any food they liked sitting out then they wouldn't bother you. Generally. I didn't see anyone packing up early or anything so I think everyone were able to deal with them. There's a good chance we will return... with a netted canopy to go over the picnic table."

The best part was speaking with the range masters, Jay and Jeff. I asked them for advice on leadership, which related to my concerns. They listened and gave me some advice since we are all veterans. Besides all that, the shooting range itself is nice, and they prioritize safety, which is very important. They even gave me a warning for rapid fire that I wasn't aware I was doing. Captain Ron a friend of a friend set the trip up and they invited me. It started off a little shaky because we werent shore where to park or which boat it was, and i think we were late, sorry to every one that was waiting on us. Once we got on the boat the deck hand Dave went over with us all the instructions and what to do and not to do incase you get sea sick. One person didnt hear the instructions and threw up all over the bathroom smh. The deck hand supplied us with with a burlap sack for our fish and rented us a fishing pole for 10 bucks. When we had fish on our lines Dave the deck hand would come out and assist us if we needed help taking the fish off, he would help us out untangle the fish lines if they got tangled up. I will say he was the best Deck Hand I've ever seen. The whole experience was fun!! We caught the max 10 fish and we went crabbing and also maxed out 10 Dungeness Crabs each. I WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN!! I recommend you to go fishing on the Huck Finn! The captain knew where to find the fig fish and where to get traps filled with crab! Captain Chris Smith and crew did a fantastic job in introducing my daughter to fishing. It was kind of slow at first because we had to sail out 90 minutes to drop the hoop nets for crab. After dropping the nets, we fished near the Farrallon Islands. The crew of JT and Jack were great at helping out my daughter. They baited the hooks for her and even casted for her. She didn't have to do much except to reel the fish up. At one point, they saw that the reel that we had on the rod was not a good match for her, so they let her use one of the rental rods. At one point, she was outfishing me and was catching not only more than I did, but, her fish were bigger. In the end, we both had our limits of rockfish and crab. It was a fantastic experience for my daughter and I. We had so much fish and crab that we couldn't fit everything into my large ice chest. We gathered at the dock super early and although we thought it was early, Captain Kyle was up and at'm ready to fish! He said we were in for an adventure. The great thing about DSF is that they provide all the gear necessary for your catch. We were going out for Tuna as Bluefin are now found in the waters off the west coast, we were all pretty excited to go fishing. All we brought with us was food and drinks, having everything else included was a bonus. In the event we caught anything, they'll cut, clean, gill and give us fillets. The boat ride was awesome, no one got seasick thank goodness, there's ample seating inside and out. It was super foggy in the early morning, but cleared up by the time we started. I've not been on a fishing boat prior to this trip, and I was blown away at how scenic and beautiful the water was out there. The bright sunshine gave the water a super bright blue appearance, it was cool. Captain Kyle and his deckhand got everyone rigged up and ready to fish. The Captain is youthful and took his time answering questions and giving advice. His mixture of humor and knowledge of where the fish were was certainly a bonus because as soon as lines were in the water we heard, " Fish On!" That first Tuna took everyone on board including my son Parker to reel it in ( Posted Picture). What a freaking rush. It was exciting watching as everyone reeled something in on the boat. We laughed, joked and had such a fun day out on the water with friends. On our way back in to harbor the Captain pointed out several whale pods swimming around the boat, it was a trip seeing them jump. We enjoyed our lunch and talked about who caught the biggest tuna. In all honesty, that first one was the biggest in my book. I can't say enough great things about Captain Kyle and his Diamond Sport Fishing. Reservations were easy as charters go out practically daily either 1/2 or full days. The waters off of California are changing, getting warmer, they're seeing Bluefin Tuna and Marlin so who knows, maybe our next trip we'll catch something epic! Overall Impression: A+"

But considering that it still provides plenty of much needed resources to a corner of downtown that would otherwise have none, you have to give credit where credit is due. In short, consider it a flawed park with good intentions. On the positive side, it's a big, spacious park covering at least the size of six city blocks. There's an iconic stage with beautiful murals, plenty of grass for games or playing with the pup, many beautiful trees, a big lake filled with ducks, tables for picnicking, a large play structure for kids, tennis courts and a pool. I've never seen the pool in operation but I will assume when it is when it isn't COVID. There are fewer negatives, but still plenty to list. This is a big homeless gathering spot, with many actively sleeping or camping. The pond is fenced off and not in the best condition. And I would t suggest anyone, man or woman, hang around at night because of an unsavory element known for gang and drug activity. It's also in eye and ear shot of a busy freeway.Keep it all in mind and enjoy what you can out of it. I will personally come back whenever I have the chance. Big Al and his wife set everything up and we eagerly awaited the big day of fishing. They told us exactly what to bring, what time to meet Big Al, and where. We met Big Al and his deckhand, Marvin, at Miller Park at 6 AM and we were in the water within minutes. As soon as the sun started to rise, our lines were in the water and we were trolling down the river hoping to hook some salmon. With the limit being 1 salmon per person, we surprised to hear how many boats and tour guides have been getting skunked this season. We were nervous but Big Al reassured us. And then the magic happened - around 7:15 AM my boyfriend caught the first fish; a decent sized, beautifully silver salmon. Not 15 minutes later, my salmon was on the line. Woohoo! We had caught our personal limits and it was only 7:30 AM. But we wanted to fish some more, so we stayed on the water and tried for Big Al and Marvin's limits. But like Big Al said, if you don't get the morning bite, you wait. And we waited. We trolled up and down the river, trying various spots, talking with Big Al and Marvin, and hoped we could catch one or two more. Just as we were about to give up and head in for the day (at 1 PM, five and a half hours after catching our morning salmon), I caught a big, beautiful 20 pound salmon, not more than 100 yards from Miller Park boat launch.
