Stephani M. "#109Thank you Capt. Dennis and companion (dog) for an amazing trip around the city via the Bay. We saw so many things up close and personal--in a way I have never experienced the Bay Area before--even after 11 years here. The weather was a little cooler than normal, and then on the water it was that much cooler, but it really did not bother any of us as we brought jackets and wore warmer clothing--Bay Area in July, right? While everyone else, everywhere else is in short shorts and tank tops, we are out here in Uggs and sweaters (oh yeah, and our short shorts ;) A friend told me about this sailing tour and I actually got super excited. I asked two of my close friends to join me and we were off for our "day on the Bay". We entered by way of the Berkeley Marina and parked easily. We brought wine, cheese, fruit and a few other snacks for the tour. It was a whole day event, so I was glad my friend told me what to bring. We saw the Gold Gate Bridge from underneath as we crashed on the egregious waves and held on tightly to the boat. We saw beautiful Angel Island and toured past Alcatraz too. Strange to think that this prime piece of real estate was used to house America's worst criminal minds. I guess everyone deserves a view of nature. We could see the East Bay as we set sail and ventured over to the other side--and then around the whole thing almost. It was so amazing.I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves sailing, loves water, loves the Bay--yeah, I guess I would recommend it to anyone. Capt. Dennis we will be back to ride with you again. Thank you for a wonderful day.Stephani Smiles for Imagine Sailing Tours :)#captdennisisarockstar"

He's not cheap but thorough. He didn't hesitate to drive into town & pick up new batteries right when we needed them.He works on all different types of boats & engines. We've even used him for smaller jobs like fixing our horn and windshield wipers."

One of the Delta's best boating destinations, VWMR offers safe berthing, easy access to fun on the water, and onsite dining & drinking. However, this boater recently discovered their waterfront bungalows...well-appointed interiors with a fantastic private deck outside. You can fish off the deck, fire up the furnished grill, keep the beer cold in the full-sized frig, and use the free internet to post photos of yourself having fun. Now they also have a classy RV park where every caravan is on the water. The excellent staff adds to the experience."

Ben A. "If you're in your boat... in the Sacramento River... and you're near Walnut Grove... and you have a hankering for ice cream or pizza... and it's before 7 PM... you're in luck! The Walnut Grove Public Dock is a clean, large mooring facility to park your watercraft for a spell, while you head into town or enjoy one of the businesses close to the dock. And did I mention: it's free! There's a fee for overnight tie ups, but during the day, it's like parking your car on the curb.On our recent camping trip just down the rover from Isleton, our group took a flotilla of boats to the ice cream place at the dock. Summer conditions in the delta made the water warm and relatively clear, and the kids tubes and wake boarded on the way up the river to Walnut Grove. We tied up to the dock, gorged on sweet treats, and returned for a sundown boat ride back.Apparently, fishing used to be allowed here; not anymore. In fact, there are lots of rules posted here, almost comically... and there's room on the wall for more rules to be posted at the whim and fancy of the city council.Definitely a different way of living than our SoCal freeway lifestyle."

Kristy L. "First timer here at Lake Camanche and it was definitely above expectations! I kept my expectations low prior to arrival but once my friends and I pitched tents and started swimming + using the other amenities, I realized it's so much better than other sites I had visited before. Despite the blazing summer heat, it was a good time. First would like to address that we're in the wilderness and in nature, people! Bugs and other nature related issues ARE to be expected. It's funny that some people think the sites could regulate the amount of bugs or something when it's a part of nature. Maybe different parts of the site had more than others, but near 120s we had the normal flies, bees, ants, small creatures roaming. Nothing that bug spray or swatting couldn't fix. The restrooms and showers are not janky, they're obviously not ideal either, but I was so grateful to even have the ability to shower daily. That said, I think the men were a little annoyed that only one shower was working at the time but still were happy because one shower is better than none.Anyway, the campsites are huge depending which spots you reserve! Really enjoyed having a private enough area for me and my friends to camp at, and we were just two levels above the lake. The views are amazing, especially at night. My friends and I experienced little to no issues at the campgrounds, parking was easy and we enjoyed our time there! We will definitely be back in the future and I am thankful that the rangers came around to inspect often. There were some issues with other campers, but those were dealt with in timely manner. Thank you Lake Camanche!"

Christy P. "Sacramento's best yacht club out of the two that are here in the area. This is a 501c3 volunteer not for profit organization and as such members are asked to volunteer to support the club in many ways which may include maintaining the buildings, docks and grounds; making improvements to the aforementioned areas; cooking in the kitchen; being kitchen lead; maybe bartender at the club's full service bar. In addition to the above, there are many great cruises, events and meetings throughout the year. Plus there is a full service bar that is open year round on Fridays for happy hour. The club is kid friendly and is inclusive of all religions, politics, races and genders. Furthermore, Drug use (which includes pot) is not openly tolerated and can be grounds for discipline or dismissal. I would whole heartedly recommend this place if you're a boater in the area. The reason why I am not giving the club 5 stars as a member is because I recently inadvertently ran afoul of one of the clubs cliques. Some ugly, untrue and hurtful things were said about me and to me."

Jim R. "We stayed at the campground for two nights starting 8/12/16, in tents. Other than a neighboring spot with some noisy occupants, and the almost constant presence of yellow jacket wasps (called Meat Bees by pretty much everyone around here, more on that later), I'd give it a solid 5 for what it is. What is it? It's a typical Cali campground... paved roads and spots, vault toilet (ie, no flushy flushy), spigots with drinking water here and there... tables, fire rings, bear boxes, and cooking grills at each spot. Lots of fine dirt that gets in everything of course. Beautiful clear lake that allows motorized boats. Good swimming with a gradual deepening shore... good for kids... bring your water socks, lots of rocks. No poison ivy or oak. Oh, and there are no fish in the lake. I know this because I didn't catch any. Jus' sayin'.We didn't see any bears and the park attendant said they'd hadn't seen any this season yet. There were, however, tons of meat bees who, shockingly, like meat... and the occasional sweet treat. Cooking eggs? No big deal. Pancakes? As long as there's no syrup. Bacon? Well, that's where the comparison flips. If you're cooking, eating, or even looking longingly at any bacon in any form then there'll be a meat bee right there looking with you. Okay, not so much looking but more of a crawling, sniffing, licking, chomping, carrying off bits type of thing happening. And to be (hehe "be") perfectly clear, it won't just be one meat bee but a whole family unit which consists of everything within a 20th cousin 50 times removed sort of vibe. The meat bees are actually yellow jacket wasps and, get this, they not only sting... and as you all know wasps can sting as many times as they can plant their little yellow and black booties firmly onto your soft fleshy skin... but they also bite. Yes, you heard it right, they bite. So they could literally decide to bite you, which in itself is pretty painful and lasts at least a day, but after biting you they could decide to throw in a few extra stings free of charge. But here's the deal, not everyone gets the attention of these little guys. Of our party of 7 only 4 got bit and no one got stung. Kinda like those people who don't get stung by mosquitoes... maybe. The two things that got people stung were being mean to the wasps (unintentionally)... ie: waving frantically, moving really quickly, accidentally grabbing them (while grabbing a half full trash bag)... and "tasting" good. Now, this is just my personal opinion of the reasons, but all 5 bites (yes, someone was bit twice) I think can be narrowed to these things. I think one person had some pancake syrup on their hand and, since the person tasted sweet and was made of meat of course, this was too good a situation for the wasp to pass up.I think it was manageable... of course, I wasn't one of the ones who were bit either, but generally if you didn't have any food they liked sitting out then they wouldn't bother you. Generally. I didn't see anyone packing up early or anything so I think everyone were able to deal with them. There's a good chance we will return... with a netted canopy to go over the picnic table."

They let you know on how the conditions are out there. Minimal paperwork. Insurance costs you $16, not bad at all. We usually rent the basic boats with a canopy over our heads for fishing. It does its job. Yesterday they said they ran out of those canopy boats for us because all of them were being reserved, so we bummed out. Scorching hot sun and no canopy for the whole day = burnt skin and us going home early. Once we were about to load, one of the workers checked out what they had left, and TADA... They had one random canopy boat left. Thank God! They do go out of their way to help customers out! If you are planning to rent jet skis here, they stopped doing that a few years ago. Tiffany K. "I think it's hilarious that I'm the Duchess of the American River. Sounds like some Game of Thrones title. However I suspect after this review goes up, I won't be Duchess for long. Anyway, I grew up on this river. Back in the day (I'm dating myself now) I would get on my bike, meet up with friends, ride the bike trail, explore the river, skim some rocks and cruise back home in time for dinner. (Then again I read an article about how the Gen X set was the most "neglected" generation in recent history which is why they over compensate with helicopter parenting - but I digress...)I usually go rafting once a year, I own a six-man raft, and I grew up rafting down this river. Believe it or not, it used to be just families. Now anything goes. Yes, I even witnessed a guy with Mardi Gras beads who got women to flash him. My favorite areas are close to the old Fair Oaks bridge. You know, the one off of Bridge Street where no one is allowed to park anymore? The same bridge where they filmed scenes from The Stuntman featuring Peter O'Toole - yes I saw him in person - and Black Dog with Patrick Swayze. If you want to launch a raft, you can hoof it from Bridge Street to the boat launch across the bridge. You have to be in good shape though and have a lot of people to help. This way you won't have to pay the launch fee! Some excellent trails that go alongside the river are at Bannister Park. Take the horse trail and get lost. Eventually all trails lead to the American River.Fall is a beautiful time of year to watch the running of the salmon. Don't know why they "run" -- easier to say that instead of "swimming upstream" I suppose. And then in winter through early spring, the river smells pretty fishy from those that didn't make it to the hatchery. The American River runs colder in the summer ironically due to the snowmelt that gets released. Just watch out for areas notorious for undertow. Generally speaking, I haven't heard of anyone drowning by the old bridge. And I don't care if your friends do it, don't jump from the footbridge! It's not worth severing a vertebrae."

Last night as we made our way down the San Joaquin Delta for a pre-4th of July run, we noticed all the yachts and boats in berths, most from the SF bay area, some from as far as San Diego, CA and Oregon. Adjoining the Promenade is the Waterfront Warehouse. Live music was reverberating off the arena, ballpark and hotel across the channel. Folks were out walking the promenade, dancing to the beat of the Bump City Band in a festive lantern lit patio overlooking the water at Chivita's. Yachts had their neon lights out with martini signs aglow....it's 5 o'clock somewhere I guess! I'd have to say, I'm very proud or our waterfront and Downtown Marina. Paul C. "I've been out twice with the Sundance to catch salmon outside the bay. The boat leaves at 5:30 sharp and stays out until the limit of 2*6 was caught each time. The first time we were out 10 hours, the second about 5. The boat takes six fishermen and a crew of two. Captain CJ knows his stuff. Took us through 10ft swells outside the gate (the potato patch they call it) with the boat pitching nearly 90 degrees. Quite the ride on a rough day. All gear and bait are included and two 2lb sinkers. The sinkers drop when you hook the fish, and cost $7 each when you need more So I used 8 and paid $42 extra for six. No problem, but something to be prepared for. The mate and captain keep the rods baited and the boat trolling. Everyone gets great action. One guy pulled in a 24 lb salmon. Last trip I caught three keepers and two small ones we tossed back. Guys also caught five good sized mackerels also, which weren't counted as part of the 12 limit, so we wound up with three each. Everyone gets to pick their best two if they're over the limit and unlucky guys split the rest. The mate will fillet anything and you can keep any of it you want. Get a one-day fishing license for $17 at a bait shop before you go. $250 for the day. Parking passes inside at the business at the end of the road, the Sundance is on the second dock from the end. A great way to spend a day. Call months in advance - they book up fast. There's catch counts on the web page so you can see all the boats and how they're doing."

You can get back rests for an additional $1...not sure if it's an extra $1/hr or what, but it's so worth it. You'll find your back feeling sore if you don't get it. You'll have to sign some waivers. You do need to bring your ID for renters over 18 years old, and they also need 1 set of keys to hold onto, so make sure you get everything out of your car that you need before you hand the keys over. They do give you a 15 minute grace period to finally get your kayak and get onto the water. They have free life jackets for you to use. There is someone down at the kayak storage to help you board the kayak and you paddles. There is enough space for you to bring a small bag, but be careful not to get it wet or drop it! All the staff at the renting area, kayak storage/launch area, office were very friendly and helpful.General rules for the Aquatic Center...you have to return your stuff by 8 pm, and don't kayak to the damn, which is left of the kayak storage/launch area.I've generally been able to kayak for about 1.5-2 hours before getting tired...maybe if I took more time to rest in between bursts of paddling, I might stay longer on the water...so perhaps plan accordingly!Parking is free!
