My son had the week off from school today so I took him to the Blackhawk Museum. Upon walking in I could tell this museum was a great one. We first went to see the China exhibit which was incredible and educational as well. Then we went to see the nature exhibit which was overwhelming in a good way. We really enjoyed that. The interactive displays were also educational. The car museum is the place to go if you're a car enthusiast. The entire history of expensive and performance cars can be found in there. Finally we went to see the Old West exhibit, which pulled no punches in describing how Native Americans were mistreated by the US government for years. That part of the museum was probably the most intense. Overall I would say this is a world-class museum despite flying under the radar. Up there with the best.

I did not expect this place to have so many things to see and to be so well-built and imagined. We walked in not expecting much from a neighborhood museum, I mean the location is in the middle of a shopping area in Danville so we definitely did have high expectations. But we walked in, entrance is small and narrow but then it expands in to amazing displays and the first thing, of course, are those beautiful well maintained vintage (amazing) cars! It's a small section but still you can expect to spend at least 30 mins just here. Then we went to the Africa and china sections, all great but our favorite, since we have young ones; was the animal walk! That space is warmer and smaller for the number of displays, but it does not disappoint you and the kids loved it. Bears, Birds, Rhinos, Reptiles, Fishes, Whales, Elephants, Sheep (a lot of them), and it keeps going. We spent about 2 hours and there was still more at the second floor but we saved it for next time.

I came here because I found this place on TikTok. It's in a shopping center that has a ton of parking. The place is towards the very back . There is a lot of stairs and walking. The cost was $20 for adults and kids six and under are free. The place is pretty big with a lot of sections. It's very clean and it is an event center as well. They had a ton of beautiful cars if you're into that. I was extremely impressed. There was a from Africa and China. Also a two story room that showed a lot of different animals in their environment. My favorite was the Native American room. The detail they have put into this museum is beyond. Highly recommend I think it's great for all ages. Definitely worth every penny this is a must.

I've been to this museum at least 5 times through my NARM membership this year and highly recommend this hidden gem. My favorite exhibit is "Into China." If you are a museum buff, and you like to read all the descriptions by each item, this section can easily take over an hour with how expansive and detailed it is. I feel it's a lot more visually immersive of an experience than say the Asian Art Museum up in SF. On one of my visits, I called the front desk in advance to see which tours would be happening since they are based on volunteer availability. Brad (a volunteer docent) was wonderful for the weekend 2pm Automobile Gallery Tour. He said the tour lasts 45min, but easily went 1hr with fun facts! There's plenty of great opportunities to visit if you're trying to find something fun to do indoors, whether you're escaping the hot summer heat (the building is air conditioned) or the winter rain/cold.Free ample parking in the parking lot. Only downside is each time I've went, I've noticed the restrooms don't get as much upkeep as they should -- a lot of visitors don't flush for some reason here... other than that, the space is immaculate.

What a cool museum! We spent about an hour and a half here and felt like we just glanced and everything. You need much more time if you want to read the information. We loved all the exhibits, with the cars one being cool but not super interesting to us. The world of nature of was so cool and it's shocking how many animals are in there. It was our favorite. They arranged everything beautifully (I especially loved they had animals in all the trees above you as well). The rhinos moved, and it would be cool if a few more animals moved too. The China exhibit was beautiful and the Western one was great. The Africa section was small but nice. We would definitely return! My young ones (age 3 and 6) might have been a little bored and moved quickly, but they were free and so it was fine.

This place is great! I went here during one of their free admission days. Saw some pretty awesome cars, a lot of wild animals from all over the world, and a lot of cultural art from Africa and China. It has a really pretty exterior with fountains and swans and some pretty swanky restaurants around it. The only difficult thing is that it's kind of hidden in the plaza. It's behind some buildings and you probably need to park in the back corner to have easier access to it. Other than that, it's a pretty nice place to go to.Enjoy!

This place is INCREDIBLE- ample parking in the lots, walk a little into the shopping plaza, follow the signs- very well-displayed - clean, well-stocked bathrooms- I love that the space is small but the exhibits are PACKED with so much to look at!The nature exhibit might be overwhelming because in my experience, most museums put one type of animal into an exhibit space and maybe have 1 or 2 related animals in the same exhibit. This museum takes like, all of a region's animals (e.g. all of North America) and creates a wild, congested scene in a small exhibit space, so it's a LOT to take in. Tbh, I liked this because then I can see more while being in the same spot. They also have touch screen displays where you can select the animal and learn more about it! Some touch screens were out of service though. - China exhibit actually blew me away. Presentation is everything, and I was not expecting to be so impressed by the layout of the room or the exhibition pieces. - there's something for everyone! Beyond just the main meat of the exhibits, there's also... paintings, a small historical display of a family (you can walk into their home), interactive spin the wheel, couches to sit on when you're tired, the small details also matter, and this museum did such a good job. I saw families, I saw elderly couples, I saw younger people. The crowd was diverse, and the ticket price was also fair! ($20/adult) The ONE CON and it drove me nuts and gave me such a huge negative reaction: in the nature exhibit, they play audio for background sounds (like animal noises and ambiance noises). The volume is EXTREMELY LOUD. Like, cover your ears loud. Ambiance sounds were okay, but imagine standing there and reading the info display on the grizzly bear and suddenly, the ambiance sounds cut and you're blasted by SUDDEN ROARING! And for a good minute or so too! I was constantly startled, especially because you don't know where the speakers are or what display will be loud and what will be softer in volume and types of sounds. Ugh, it really prevented me from fully enjoying the exhibit. Overall, I drove over an hour to see this museum, and I was NOT disappointed. I would love to come again, and not in a year, but soon! Even next weekend!

The Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA is an absolute gem! I recently took my 3-year-old daughter for a visit, and we had an amazing time. As an elite Yelper and Google review contributor, I can confidently say that this museum exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. They made us feel right at home and were more than happy to answer any questions we had. The exhibits themselves are breathtaking, especially the classic car collection. My daughter was mesmerized by the shiny, beautifully preserved cars, and I loved the detailed information about each one.One of the highlights of our visit was the children's area. It's perfectly designed to engage young minds, with interactive displays and hands-on activities that kept my daughter entertained for hours. The museum also offers educational programs that are both fun and informative, making it a great place for families. The facility is well-maintained and spotless, with plenty of places to sit and rest if needed. The cafe offered a nice selection of snacks and drinks, which was a pleasant surprise. Parking was easy and convenient, adding to the overall positive experience. In short, the Blackhawk Museum offers a wonderful blend of history, education, and entertainment. It's a fantastic place to visit, whether you're a car enthusiast or just looking for a fun, family-friendly outing. We will definitely be returning soon!
