Bear Valley General Store

Absolutely loved our sandwiches! The place looks a bit rough around the edges... BUT! The Ruben and the SW turkey was really really good and huge... on a different note the staff were very pleasant and I watched the guy making our sandwich wash his hands about 7times in a 45min sitting... very clean.

I love this place. Of course it's hard to not think of Dave whenever you cross the threshold, but it still has the welcoming, warm, simple feel that he so engendered. This place has simplified A LOT, but it has the basics you might need: milk, cereal, eggs, butter. And of course ice cream for the kiddos as well as a few great gift items that are perfect for cabins or camping. And the deli sandwiches are well done. Be sure to pop in and support this local business! They've done a nice job and we need it here in Bear!

The store has very basic items. It is a small village market. No real fresh food. But it is clean and a place to get a few things in the middle of nowhere. If you plan to stay up here and cook on your own, you may want to consider stock up at Arnold or it will be a good cooking challenge to come up with a good meal from the stock other than canned food.

Gotta love the small town general store feel. It's a humble and low-key place inside the Bear Valley Lodge. You walk in and the friendly owner greets you, often by name if you are a regular. There are sparse random grocery items across the store but it's just all the perfect items you need to get by on for a weekend or short vacation out here. And there's a little deli area where you can grab some sandwiches too. For me finding that bag of Cheetos when I was craving it was like hitting the jackpot.Bottom line: Nice local flavor. Thanks for the Cheetos.

The General Store is so stocked!! They have almost anything you could want. Fresh fruit, any cold drinks, groceries and Jomas Ice Cream!!

This store has stepped up big time! They have so much on stock of everything u need whether it be vacationing supplies or just every day stuff! From firewood to fresh fruits. They have it all! And if they dont....the manager will order immediately! Oh and did u know they have JOMA'S ICE CREAM!!!!! IT IS THE BEST!!!

Nice workers. Their salami melts is so good, not a fan of pickles but I like the taste of it in their sandwich.

Get this:My family has owned a cabin in Bear Valley for 20 years and I used to absolutely love coming to the general store when I was a kid. On my trip to the village this past weekend I had a very unfortunate experience with the woman now running the general store. With a few root beers in hand my friend had his wallet out ready to pay and we cracked them open. Unfortunately, he did not have his card he thought in his wallet so he quickly left to grab it from the cabin. We apologized profusely and sat waiting for him at the tables by the drinks, quietly. It was snowing and he had to walk a long ways there and back. Apparently this was a huge deal.Suddenly the woman that now runs the place became extremely angry and threatened to call the Sheriff on us if he was not back in the next 5 mins. She wanted him to arrest us!?!?! We had been there for about 20 mins, waiting quietly (not walking out). In no one's way because literally no one was in the store. Beware, there is hardly anything on the shelves in this store now that ownership has changed.Luckily he came back with the money in the nick of time (after her yelling for 10 minutes straight telling us we need to stock shelves, which we even agreed to). She treated us like absolute criminals, it was so bizarre. Twelve bucks for 3 root beers-- what a deal!!! And totally worth wasting tax payer money to potentially arrest us. This was a heartless experience and I will never patronize this store i loved so much as a child. Such a shame.

The Bear Valley General Store was a pleasure to do business at.We stayed in one of the condos for a week and visited the general store and deli more than once a day. The food is fabulous, the sandwiches are to die for! The owner spares no expense when purchasing the top quality food items to work with.The General store has the sweetest husband and wife team running it. They do remind me of Mr. and Mrs. Claus! So friendly, kind, helpful, and sweet!I wouldn't hesitate to shop at this store instead of having to drive 20 miles or so down the mountain to get our needs. What a wonderful experience, visiting with the towns people in this little bit of heaven on earth.Deb

Gotta love this place! The Bear Valley general store is a quaint, tiny lil' grocery store that will take you back to a simpler time. With the soft worn wooden floors, the gentle hum of the freezers, the clap of the screen door, and always a friendly greeting, it's just like you knew when you were a child. The store owner (I swear) is Mrs. (Santa) Claus out of uniform, she's just as cute and sweet as can be... The ambience of the store is very friendly and relaxed. You'll always find at least a few locals sitting at the deli tables, having a coffee, or a bite, catching up on the day's goings on. Feel free to strike up a conversation with a local, they're all friendly, and know alot about the area that could make your visit more enjoyable. BV General caters to this tiny community of 200 homes, and winter/summer vacationers. Yet, they have a great variety of simpler fare to offer. They also have a wonderful deli that makes excellent breakfasts and sandwiches. Better'n you'd make at home! Try the local's specials... They also have a surprising variety of beer, wine, and spirits, not to mention some very current snacks. And like the mythical Ralph's Pretty Good Grocery of Garrison Keillor's fictitious Lake Wobegon, if you can't find it a BV General Store, you can probably get along without it...
