A few years ago, I had to drive from the Detroit airport to Sarnia Ontario. When I told a friend how I was going, his immediate response was that I would be traveling through the "gun and knife" show! It may be unfair, but that's the story I remember every time I drive out to Antioch. I have been to both the Contra Costa County Fair and at the Flea Market. Rather than being impressed, I leave depressed. This Iowa Boy loves any sort of community fair. However, in my limited experience her, the facility, the offerings, and the people watching just does not inspire.

I drove past this place about 500 times before finally checking it out. Now, I've been to the San Jose Flea Market, which is (I believe) the largest in California. In comparison, all flea markets look mediocre to me, but the Antioch market was and still is very enjoyable. Kid friendly, as both times I went, my wife and two year old daughter joined us. We always end up buying something for ourselves, and there's some very fun stuff for kids. Worth checking out if you've never been. Once you've been, you'll be back.

My visit here didn't entail fair rides, corn dogs, gang violence and carny's. It was piles and piles of Crab Legs, Tri-Tip, Garlic Bread and beautiful, beautiful music. We attended a fund raiser Crab Feed for the local High Schools Band Department. It was a great event. The location was held in the Sunset Hall. A large rectangular room that we checked in at the front with our tickets. After that they had all of the raffle items set up for everyone to bid on.They had a bar!! Wooo Whoo!! You had to purchase tickets to buy booze and bid on the raffle items. Fully debit card functional. Awesome!!!The sound was great for the band and we were serenaded while making a massive mess with all of the Crab, Meat and Bread. My one complaint was finding the entrance. It was dark and confusing to find exactly where to drive into at. Like my friend Eric B. says its kind of "gun & knife" around here. I grew up in this area so maybe I'm not that scared because there are scarier areas I could go to, this one isn't that bad. However, I would never go to the fair because of the gang element that does surround the grounds. I would go to the skating rink though, my old childhood haunt. We had a great time, parking was plentiful the space was perfect for that type of event and I didn't need to bring a bunch of cash. Ill be back next year. Hopefully they'll have hot Crab this time.

This flea market is not that bad for being in Antioch. This one has a lot more food choices than the Concord one. We had gotten a fruit drink w chamoya and margarita mix, oh man so good! Will def come back again! One star taken away for the gravel and dirt u have to walk on the whole time.

They really need to pave this parking lot. I live across the street on the dusty side we're down wind so we get trash!! It was a great place to grow up and I still love the races today

There is also an RV park at this fairgrounds however if you are expecting a resort this is not it. But you cant beat it for being even semi-close to San Francisco at $25 a night instead of paying $75 a night for a cement pad with hookups in South San Francisco. Located on the Contra Costa County fairgrounds 41 miles inland. There are no facilities so you have to be mostly self contained (no restrooms or showers). A bonus, unless you don't like being woke up early on Saturday mornings is there is a pop up flea market/swap meet where you can get fresh produce and a variety of ethnic food items. No grocery stores or services are nearby by walking except for a small grocer and bakery with an amazingly good selection of butcher fresh meat items. (See my other reviews for more).

It's funny to see the negative reviews because they're not actually reviewing the flea market as much as the other events that they hold there. With a name like flea market, you can expect this to be a dive. It's really little more than a dirt lot, but for bargain hunters it's the best flea market in all of Contra Costa county. Sure you could go to the Oakland swapmeet where it costs a small fortune to rent a booth so you pay higher prices or you can come to Antioch where everyone is so dirt poor that they're selling the same goods at 1/4 of the price.

A little bit of Mexico in Antioch that's open every Saturday. It's a small flea market but there's a pretty good variety of food, commercial and independent vendors. There's free parking and spaces are usually available if you come early. The Concord Flea Market on Sundays is bigger but finding parking in the lot is difficult and they charge an admission fee; only a couple of bucks, as I recall, but I don't think you should have to pay at all. So, I find myself visiting the Antioch Flea Market whenever I want to shop for Latino food, bootleg movies, tools and other things that are always available at the flea market, while munching on some elote and sipping a horchata.
