Love that this hiking trail is within 5 minutes of my home. Having the parkway available throughout the Sacramento area makes it Sacramento an even more disrespectful place to live. My husband and I go here for shorter rehabilitation walks (he is relearning how to walk after a spinal tumor was removed), I go here on my own for connecting back to nature and exercise, and the last two days I enjoyed taking a 6 mile hike with brother who was visiting.I have visited all up and down the parkway, at different entrance points, and different times of year. It never disappoints. I have had a yearly pass and it is well worth it for all the enjoyment I get from here.

Lots of parking. Self pay parking. Nice spot to walk your dog, smell the flowers and maybe a few photos here and there. Lots of rocks. Especially where the poppy where we found. Have good shoes on.

I spent the majority of my vacation in Sactown along the American River. Just beautiful! Loved this particular spot with wonderful views. I am assuming they get super busy when it is warmer but was nice to be here without a lot of folks around.

I've driven by the Sacramento Bar area at least a thousand times , and never realized that it was an accessible park and nature area. What got us curious was the high water levels of the American River, so close to the pedestrian crossing next to the Sunrise bridge . We decided we needed to check it out this weekend, and so glad we did. The directions on Yelp is accurate. You will drive through the charming residential area of Fair Oaks to get the park. The entrance is clearly marked. There is a 5$ parking fee, with a sign that says it's enforced year round , and when it's not manned , you must self pay. I don't know how they enforce this, but those are the parking rules. The parking lot is huge, and so is the park. There are numerous picnic tables scattered about and a restroom. It's close access to the water. There are miles of walking and biking trails. Lots of trees and open space . Pretty fabulous that we have this so close by. It was a bit wet when we visited and the pedestrian crossing was closed due to river running so high and dangerously close to flooding . Looks like we will have to visit another time to walk across the bridge. It will be sooner then later !

Came here for the second time with relatives. If you go to the non shallow area there's moss on rocks. And on the area with current there's no moss on the rocks. You can jump off the bridge. And there's a lake/river rental area near so you should check that out. Sometimes you'll see geese and ducks. Also, there's crawfish/crab that hide under rocks and walk around! ): which was scary for me especially since they get so big.Lastly, during October through January there are salmon there and its against the law to catch them then.

I am fortunate to live close to Sacramento Bar. If you take a drive down here in the evening expect to be greeted by the resident deer, the peace that only nature can provide and the most beautiful sunsets imaginable. If you've never seen a Fair Oaks sunset, you are missing out. It's incredible that just a few feet from Sunrise Blvd exists this gorgeous portion of the American River Parkway. Sacramento Bar is the perfect place to take a riverside stroll, gaze into the sunset from the beautiful bridge (don't jump off the bridge, seriously, don't jump off the damn bridge), ride your bike across the river to jump on the Parkway, catch salmon in the fall and winter months or enjoy a picnic with the kids along the American River. There are also several ponds you can fish (I've even seen some skim board) if you are willing to scramble up the cobble.I highly recommend everyone purchase a Sacramento County parks pass (mostly because I appreciate the toilet paper in the clean, maintained restrooms) but if you don't buy a parks pass you can expect to pay the following fees:$5 Vehicle$3 Small Watercraft Launch Fee$10 Vehicle + Trailer or Oversized Vehicle (over 22 feet)$20 BusSacramento Bar is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
