Today I went for a ride on a railcar on The Amador Central Railroad. You board the train cars just outside the town of Ione. The ride is about six miles total, three out and three back, and takes about an hour. The 104 year old track winds through beautiful Amador County foothills. Today's temperature was 70 and the land was covered in green grass and wild flowers. We sat in comfortable seats in open cars with rooftop for shade and passed by grazing cattle and horses and even crossed over hiway 88. There are runs at 10:00, 12:00 and 2:00 on some saturdays. Full details are on their website. There was plenty of free parking. All of the people working the events are volunteers and are happy and friendly. It was super fun and it only costs $10!
