Well they say " 3 times a charm"... Not necessarily so! All I have to say positive about this place is they have the name of the salon correct ALTER! Because they definitely need to ALTER their attitude!!! I've gone inside 3 times. Just wanting to speak to someone and possibly try to make an appointment. I realize they are busy and after all I did not have an appointment. However, 3 times I've experienced nothing but rude attitudes! My first experience I was greeted at the door by a young girl, telling me "were closed" she than closed the door and locked it walking away. Okkkk!Second time... I walked in and stood there waiting for someone to acknowledge me. No one did, they just looked at me. Didn't ask do you have an appointment. Or can I help you? Nothing. I finally asked if there was a receptionist that I could speak to. One blonde lady turned to me and said" there's no one available" ....OKKKKKK!3rd Time... Walked into the salon, heard hair dyer going therefore realized they were busy. The hair dryer finally was turned off. I made a noise to where they could hear that I was inside the entrance area. The same blonde lady stuck her head around the corner and said "I am the only one here. I can't stop now I am coloring hair" INTERESTING!!! As I Never thought a hairdryer was used in the process of coloring hair.Each time I was NEVER greeted with a "hello... can I help you... or do you need or have an appointment"?AGAIN ALTER YOU ATTITUDES THERE!!!Oh in order to post , a rating is required... To bad ZERO isn't an option!

Review as a MaleVery friendly staff and always welcome you to snack on something while you wait. I've never gone in without an appointment so the review will be on their staff and personal stylist that I've been going to. Connie has been cutting my hair for more than six months so far and has done an exceptional job every time. Being a male, she's usually done in about thirty minutes that includes a hair shampoo as well. Definitely recommend Connie

I am from SoCal but I came to Stockton for a wedding reception. I was looking for somebody to do my hair and found Alter through Yelp. I have to confessed that I was a little nervous because it is hard to find somebody to understand what you want, specially when it comes to hair and make up. I was lucky enough to be taking care by Victoria. She was kind enough to wake up early and see me at 7:30am. The place is very nice and clean. Victoria asked me a few questions to understand my likes/dislikes and she totally nailed it!!!When I left the salon I wasn't disappointed. My husband loved the look too. Thank you very much for a great service:)

Victoria Pena always does such a great job on my long hair! This salon is so elegant! Great place to get pampered! She does weddings hair and makeup too!!

Only the BEST salon in Stockton!! It's such a warm and inviting environment while looking classy and glam at the same time!! Always such a treat to get my hair done by owner Ann. Look forward to every appointment!

I went to this salon Alter Custom Hair Salon 2 and a half years ago and had my hair colored by Megan H. It was the worst decision of my life. I have been suffering with a horrible allergic reactions that She applied to my scalp since that day and the solution She put on my scalp She said would itch but be worth my color! Why would it itch is my question? The itching and burning never left my scalp. I asked her two weeks after my appointment and She didn't care to help me at all she said find another hair dresser. I asked her what she put on my scalp and she wouldn't tell me till 2 weeks later after I had to ask her again! I am still going to Standford for treatment and medications. This is a life long struggle I now have to live with. I don't want anyone else to deal with the pain and suffering I've encountered with getting my hair colored by Megan H. The lack of duty of care was unacceptable and very unprofessional. The worst hair stylist and worse salon in my opinion.
