Hands down the best little tacos EVER! SO MUCH FLAVOR! Meats were seasoned perfectly and tender! Their salas WOW! All delicious! The service was amazing, our server was friendly and welcoming! The decor was very cool! So many of my favorite Mexican artists! Did I say the tacos are to die for! Will be making a stop every time I come back to San Diego! Sorry no pictures! I was too busy enjoying my tacos

Really good. Fresh take on tacos to move beyond "just another taco." We really enjoyed the food here. The service was a bit of a mess. It was fairly crowded and two servers covering the entire floor. They didn't seem to divide up the tables at all. Orders were missed, and we overheard other tables with missing orders. I think this place would run a lot smoother if they just took orders at the counter.

Go here!!! We stopped in for a late dinner and it was absolutely the best idea. Our waitress was very friendly & helpful. The owner was in as well-- he was awesome!! So welcoming and personable. We ordered quite a bit-- Their signature taco was delicious and the nachos (we added birria) were a show stopper! There are larger taco choices as well as street tacos so you can really customize based on how hungry you are and what you're looking for. The options are beyond your traditional taco options. There is a little salsa station so you have choices with that as well. Would definitely recommend!! I didn't get any pictures because we ate it all immediately...

Came here because the menu looked interesting. We got the adobada pork taco, el presidente, and the quesadilla with ribeye. All were really good. The el presidente is a big taco. The adobada taco is more like your street taco size. The quesadilla was amazing. Had lots of flavor. Can't wait to come back to try the other items.

this mexican restaurant is SO good! probably one of the top 5 mexican restaurants in san diego! the meat is SO tender and flavorful! the meat is really good quality as well! it was SO good, i wanted a side of meat to take home, but i didn't want to be greedy so i just got more tacos to eat there! the customer service was great and attentive! the only thing is you have to serve yourself salsa at the salsa bar! i think if it's full service you shouldn't have to get up and get your salsa! also, i had a watermelon margarita! i think they just used the agua fresca and put tequila in it! it did not taste like a margarita, but it was still really good so no complaints! overall, nice atmosphere, great customer service, impeccable meat and tacos!

This place is still 10/10 and I love it. Took another friend here and she was thrilled with the Nachos and the Watermelon Agua Fresca.

Tacos are still fire and people are catching on as I can see with the increased patronage and foot traffic! The downside though is that there typically is only one server and she is doing her absolute best and getting to the tables and balancing the kitchen orders but this can lead to higher than average dining times. With an additional hand I think this would dramatically improve the customer experience and help when there is a big rush. A good problem to have in this area. As I write this a party of 26 just rolled up!

We found this Hillcrest taco joint via IG and couldn't believe what we were seeing. One of their specialty taco has a whole steak in it and at this point, I'm not even sure if I would call these tacos but I'm not complaining. Being in Hillcrest, there isn't much parking around. We had to circle a bit to find street parking a couple of blocks away. The restaurant is a little small and by the end of our meal, there was a line of people waiting to be seated. Service here is great though and all the workers were welcoming and friendly. Steak & Bones Fries w/ Angus Beef: Great appetizer to share. Obviously, when you add meat, it'll come as an extra cost. Fries are crunchy and there's a good distribution of cheese and guac. The angus beef was also super tender and flavorful. It's like an enhanced carne asada fries! Bad To The Bone: From the Specialty Menu, this taco has a huge beef rib bone. The meat falls right off the bone and it's easier to just take it all off right at the beginning. Even still, it's still big to hold like a taco so I ended up just eating it with utensils. And coming in under $10, this is super affordable for the amount of food. Steak & Bones Taco: This Specialty Taco is what we saw on IG and just as we saw, it comes with an entire steak. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the steak was. Since it's pretty cheap for one taco, I thought the quality of the steak would be low but it was actually really tender! Highly recommend and easily shared too. Just like the beef bone taco, it's too big to hold like a taco so you'll end up using utensils. Delicious meal and would recommend! If you're in the mood for steak and don't want to pay too much, this is the place to go.

We had really high expectations seeing all the 5 star reviews. Thought it was pretty good - but not amazing. The server was very friendly and enthusiastically explained all the menu options. I also really enjoyed the casual and warm ambiance. The food was good but a little price for a select few menu items.- Pork Belly Adobada Taco (this was my favorite! Good price $5 and nice flavor)- Steak & Bone Fries (+ Asada) (Very tasty but a little pricey at $17...)- Cantaloupe Agua Fresca ($4 very good and refreshing! Good size as well)- Bad to the Bone Taco ($9, the meat was very tender and tasty but it just feels like a piece of tortilla wrapped around a piece of meat, feels like something is lacking)- Birria Taco ($5 Good but not as flavorful as other places that specialize in Birria)- Chicken Adobada Taco ($5 Pretty dry and nothing special, the pork belly one is much better)

Steak and Bone Taco : "A- " or 4 stars, meaning "very very good. Worth a 30 minute drive, and a little pain parking. May or may not be pricey." Executive summary for those with short attention span: Essentially a gastropub that specializes in tacos, with a cool ambiance, great service, and reasonably priced for the experience!Having lived here for almost 3 years, I've come to the conclusion that San Diego's top dog food specialty is tacos. Sure there are a couple Vietnamese places I like, Catania remains a favorite for Italian, Thai Test Kitchen is a pretty neat spot, but for their respective cuisines, they're far from the best I've had. Tacos are the exception. And out of all the places I've visited so far, Steak and Bone Tacos offers the best experience. The restaurant is neither like traditional taquerias such as El Gordo or TJ Tacos, nor the modern Lola 55 type. The vibe resembles a small, casual gastropub and offers full sit-down service. At 2pm Thursday, my wife and I were the only customers in the restaurant, with the chef, a wine sales rep, and the waitress. We sat down, and our super friendly and cheerful server, Karen, came to take our order, brought us food, checked on us multiple times, and refilled our drinks. So much better than all the other taco places I've visited. With the restaurant so quiet, I had a chance to chat with the chef about his background, his philosophy on food, and why Steak and Bone. Raised in Mexico, he naturally got exposed to lots of tacos. When he arrived in San Diego after working in high-end restaurants in Europe, he wasn't able to find tacos that met his standards. In 2022, Steak and Bone Tacos opened, utilizing premium ingredients that most taquerias wouldn't touch, with French cooking techniques sprinkled in to elevate the food experience. Pork belly adobada (A- ) : Very generous portion of tender, succulent, pork belly that had a great ratio of fat to meat. I would have preferred a little more char, but it's one of the juiciest adobada tacos I've ever had. Steak & Bones Taco (B+ ) : I find it difficult to rate this because it's not really a taco. Sure, there's a corn tortilla with a thick layer of gooey cheese, with guacamole & onions on top, but the meat is a whole piece of ribeye! I ended up eating it like an open face steak sandwich, and feel a little bad because I'm rating it as such. Steak was well marbled, and very tender, but a little under seasoned and I would have preferred more char, because charred meat is tasty! It's the first time ever that I felt a $12 taco was actually a pretty decent deal! Birria Taco (B+ ) : First time I ever had a birria taco. It was certainly enjoyable, but I learned that I prefer grilled meat over braised meat on tacos. That said, the consomme was very tasty and the quantity of meat was very generous.Hibiscus aguas fresca (B+ ) : Refreshing, sweet & tangy, reminded me of Ribena blackcurrant drink, but with a more flowery note. Cantaloupe aguas fresca (A ) : This was awesome. You get hit with pungent, fresh, cantaloupe flavor but not overpoweringly sweet. Many different types of salsas (A ) : standouts for me were the mango, and an almond pepper oil that the chef introduced me to. But there were about 6-8 different salsas - super fun to try! Obviously, I'll be back to try their other tacos and with some upfront requests on the cook, I think an updated review can get to 5 stars.
