Friday, August 9th,marked what would have been my 32nd anniversary with my late husband, Evan Smiley. It was a challenging day for me, filled with memories and emotions. To my surprise and delight, my thoughtful boyfriend, Don Ficken, arranged for us to dine at Steak 48, one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Despite the absence of Stacey, the manager, her attention to detail ensured that we had an exceptional experience to remember. Our waiter, Joseph, deserves special recognition for his impeccable service. His professionalism and attentiveness truly set the tone for the evening. As someone with celiac disease, I am always cautious about dining out, but Joseph went above and beyond to ensure that my meal was free of cross-contamination, allowing me to relax and enjoy the dining experience to the fullest. We started our meal with a delicious Caesar salad, followed by a perfectly cooked 12-ounce steak, a loaded baked potato, and the most exquisite asparagus dish I've ever tasted. Each bite was a culinary delight, showcasing the skill and artistry of the chefs at Steak 48. To top it off, our dinner concluded with a decadent gluten-free chocolate dessert, elegantly decorated with a heartfelt "happy anniversary" message. The gesture meant more to me than words can express. The pain of losing my husband remains a raw and difficult experience, even after 8 years. The kindness and care shown to us at Steak 48 truly touched my heart and provided a sense of comfort and joy on this bittersweet day.For anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience with exceptional food and service, I wholeheartedly recommend Steak 48 in Del Mar. Thank you, Steak 48, for making a difficult day a little brighter and for going above and beyond to create a memorable and meaningful evening for us.

Service service service! Terrific wait staff and management. Excellent grasp of the menu, just enough check-ins to see how the meal is progressing, water filled constantly, excellent friendly demeanor, the list goes on!Terrific apps (crispy shrimp deviled eggs), great salad (heirloom tomato w/ burrata), and delicious sides (creamed spinach, mushrooms, and mac and cheese). I tried the 12 oz Australian Tajima Wagyu and while it initially came out overcooked the wait staff promptly checked-in and had it corrected. The second one was amazingly tender for such a lean cut.Great experience and really felt cared for by the staff. Will be back!

Came here on a weekday afternoon and was surprised by how busy it was. Would definitely recommend getting a reservation in advance. This place is located in the Del Mar Highlands shopping plaza so there is a lot of parking around. The ambiance is very dark, and a little on the louder side which might not appeal to some folks. ---Food---Bread: I didn't think this was anything too special.Crab Legs: It comes with 3 large crab legs at $200. It was definitely a higher price than we expected them to be but they were good.Petite Filet: Well cooked and well seasoned.Heirloom Tomato Salad: A simple salad of an heirloom tomato with feta and seasonings. We should have looked more closely to realize that this didn't come with lettuce.Water: They don't offer tap water so you are charged $10 a bottle. We were surprised that when we had our waters nearly completely full, they immediately brought out and opened a new one for us so we ended up getting charged for two bottles despite not being able to finish the first one.--Service--The service is amazing here. That cannot be denied. Our waiters and servers were attentive and warm.--Conclusion--Overall, the food is decent and the service was great but I wouldn't come back or recommend coming unless you just wanted the experience. Our meal for 2 people ended up being $400 despite not ordering many dishes.

Made a reservation for 6 at 6 PM on a Friday night. The parking lot is busy as a heads up. You can opt for valet parking if you can't find a spot.We checked in and were immediately seated. The restaurant is huge and the ambiance is so nice. When walking to our table, we passed by the oysters and dessert - it all looked so delicious. For appetizers, I highly recommend their oysters. The chicken fried lobsters are really good too. It's pricey but super worth it. Dinner does came with complimentary bread, which I found delicious and buttery. For entree, we ordered a bunch of different steaks. The tomahawk is probably my favorite. We also did the ribeye cap steak and wagyu. This was enough for us to share along with sides. You can't go wrong with the creamed spinach and baked potato. For dessert, highly recommend the chocolate bomb. It's sooo good and you can share. The service is always excellent here. They're very attentive and friendly. We'll be coming back again when we are in the area!

My new favorite Steakhouse in San Diego! We had excellent service from the moment we walked into until the moment we left. Automatic , individual bathrooms with luxe toilets. The waiter talked through the menu and even highlighted top picks. I ordered the Wagyu Ribeye and my fiancé ordered the Filet Mignon. We usually like our steaks medium but were advised to order them medium well since we did not want any red. We also had the cesar salad as an appetizer and our sides were the mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, truffle fries, potatoes au gratin and mac and cheese. My favorite sides were the creamed spinach and potatoes au gratin. We ended the night with gelato for dessert which was creamy and rich. I cannot wait to come back again!

We loved our experience at Steak 48. We went with another couple who has gone a few weeks prior. They told us our recommendations and we went with the flow in terms of what we felt like for the evening. We wanted to bring our wine, but when we called: There is a corkage fee of $85 and the wine cannot be listed on their (extensive) wine list. You are better off purchasing a bottle from the restaurant. We were immediately seated in a private dining table (sits 4) next to the chef's kitchen. Our table also had a great view of the dessert's kitchen as well. We were close to the all-gender bathrooms (2 separate bathrooms), which were a plus! It was fun sitting at these tables because they are semi-private and you get to see what's going on in the kitchen! There are only 6 booths (I believe), so try to request for a unique experience.I ordered a glass of Chandon to start. The table ordered their drinks of choice. We were provided warm bread that had a sweet taste (honey) and butter to start. We ordered appetizers to share: chicken fried lobster tails, braised pork belly, crab legs, and fresh oysters. For dinner, we ordered the bone-in ribeye and new york strip, with sides crispy hasselback potatoes, corn creme brulee, and a bottle of Cab for the table. For dessert, we ordered the triple layer key lime pie, triple chocolate bombe, and beignets (off menu item).Everything we ordered was delicious. The service, the ambiance, the food, the drinks were all amazing. This is a very high class restaurant that costs a pretty penny! For our party of 4, it was close to $900. Save for a special occasion, because it's worth a visit.

I'm always searching for a new steak place that's comparable to my favorite places and Steak 48 got awesome reviews on Google, so I said f@#! it, let's try. I liked that the restaurant was located in a shopping center and there was plenty of parking. They do have valet parking and I suppose for status sake, you can opt for that. The valet and entrance had a very LA-esque feel which added to the whole "status" vibe. The restaurant felt like an old school classic steak joint with its decor and dim lighting; one that your rich grandfather (not mine) would go to. The open kitchen was the touch of modernity along with the fancy bidet. The staff were attentive and there seemed to be someone for every aspect/part of your dining. The things we ordered:Bread appetizer (complimentary) - tasted like biscuits, like the ones from a can. It was buttery and sweet. My daughter usually devours the bread, but not this time. It's not something you'd miss. Shrimp cocktail appetizer - perfectly cooked and large! The dipping sauces just completed the dish. I liked the extra side of horseradish. Yellowtail hamachi appetizer - the fish was fresh and light. The sauce added flavor to the fish, but the crispy shallots overpowered it. The shallots provided the textural difference but less of it would have been better.Petit filet with crab cake - the steak was cooked well. The crab cake had a lot of crab, but it ate a little dry and a little bland. Salted fries - served in a ceramic McDonald style fry box and my daughter thought it was the cutest. The fries were delicious. Perfectly salted. Alaskan king crab and rock shrimp mac n' cheese - creamy, cheesy, well seasoned and had a generous amount of seafood. Triple layer key lime pie - definitely a shareable dessert. Overall the flavor was good, but I thought the crust was a little too thick and the whipped cream could have used a little more sweetness. The lime "caviar" was pretty, but I didn't think it added much to the dish. Strawberry gelato - full of strawberry flavor and creamy. Absolutely flawless. The French old fashioned - one of the best I've had. Flavors were balanced. Overall, dinner was good, but compared to other places, far too overpriced and not everything was on point. We paid nearly $600 (with tip). Toward the end of our meal, the manager offered to buy us a drink and asked us to move tables because they "overbooked reservations." Sounds like a restaurant problem and not a patron problem. Initially, we tried to understand, but it definitely left us a bad impression, especially for what we just paid. We might try them again, but they wouldn't be at the top of our list.

Finally a high end place that's actually worth the money. The experience to price ratio checked out. The inside is dimly lit and very beautiful. Right off the bat they were very attentive. Acknowledged our anniversary, which so many places don't care to do anymore. We got a comped dessert with a "happy anniversary" message on the plate. It was very sweet! The food was great also. The free bread to start off was very good. The crispy shrimp appetizer was to die for! I don't even like shrimp, but i couldn't stop eating it here. The steak & sides were also delicious. They also finished us off with mini chocolate chip cookies, which was a nice touch. The bathroom is a separate 10/10 :D overall really enjoyed this place and will be returning for more celebrations here. Highly recommend checking it out!

Very nice dinner experience in a lovely restaurant. We celebrated our anniversary a little early as we will be out of town. We went to the bar for a drink awaiting our table. Very nice. Great manhatten. Our table was ready in a few minutes and we were seated. Our lovely waitress brought us bread and water and took our wine order. Had a nice glass of red. We started with calamari and shrimp, very good. The mrs had the crab cakes. I had the small filet and baked potato. One small flaw. My steak came out stone cold in the middle. I ordered it medium rare. I had to return it. They retired it and returned it. It was cooked nicely. We finished up with chocolate mouse dessert with an added touch.

I hope I can describe how special I felt coming here for my birthday dinner! It was DELIGHTFUL and DELICIOUS. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by name (ok bc we had reservations and my husband mentioned it was my birthday in the res) and given a birthday card handwritten by the manager of the restaurant. From there we were escorted to our table with rose petals sprinkled on top. Their wine selection is large, and I'm not a wine drinker but what we ordered so crisp and light. Ok the appetizer selection was abundant and I couldn't decide on just one thing to try- so we made a pact then on that we MUST come back. I can go on and on about how great each course was, how deliciously cooked the steaks were, and how beautifully sweet the desserts tasted. And, to top it off- we got chocolate chip cookies along with the check. $$ well spent for sure ;)
