As someone who is a big fan of the delicious food offered by the Shakou restaurants in the area, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Starfish Sushi which has many similar characteristics which make it an excellent choice to dine at. Starfish Sushi mirrors the fine decor, excellent service, large menu, and reasonable prices that make this a great place to take friends and family. The enormous portions, flavorful combinations, and excellent presentation are a huge plus in addition to its proximity to the Marriott Theatre! Even close to show time, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a table, which is a concern for those who are dining right before show time.The food here is definitely one of the strong points. With colorful plating and food elements, this is definitely video and photo worthy regardless of what you order. Fortunately, the food is just as strong in terms of well balanced and bold flavor combinations as well as lots of varieties of textures throughout. The house salad is a nice improvement over the standard offer with some crispy noodles on top to add some extra flavor and crunch while I enjoyed a slice of fresh citrus fruit inside as well. The shoyu ramen is full of tender chashu with lightly firm noodles and a slightly sweet shoyu broth. The salmon poke bowl has a delightful mix of different colors, flavors, and textures that make it a delight to eat without being overly saucy. This is a testament to the quality of fish and vegetables to present it in this way to highlight the freshness. The bulgoki entree was pretty good with lots of flavorful beef, though not as impressive as the other items I tried. The crispy rice spicy tuna was constructed in an orderly manner with clear contrast between the different elements and a good level of umami. The chicken katsu was enormous with a ton of meat in a nice thin and crispy batter and an addictive tangy sauce. The sushi and maki bento box provided a nice array of different options that was presented nicely. The slices of fish were nice and thick with a good freshness and not too much rice. Overall, delicious food, wonderful presentation, and very reasonable prices. This has now become one of my top options to dine at when I visit the Marriott Theatre.

Price - They charge you for everything, it's ridiculous. Want more wasabi? You pay for it. $4 to replace spicy tuna with fresh tuna. Charged $1 for wasabi mayo. Charged $1 for regular wasabi. Rolls are overpriced as well, especially considering there's too much rice and not much fish or ingredients. Service - terrible. So slow or they never come at all. We needed salad dressing and asked 4 different people over like a 20+ minute timespan and didn't get anything. Maybe 20 minutes later we got a small side of dressing that didn't even cover the salad and needed more but no one was around to ask. The waitress was nice but took down orders incorrectly and didn't check on us at all until we were finishing up. When we wanted anything it was such a hassle to flag was barely worth it. Tofu Salad $11 (Lightly fried tofu on a bed a spring greens with Miso & Dijon dressing in wonton bowl) - good! Large size Starfish Greens $10 (Spring greens, beets, carrots, orange with creamy ginger dressing served in wonton bowl) - good! Large sizeMango Madness $18 (Spicy tuna, cilantro, jalapeno, avocado, topped with fresh mango & mango puree) - asked for jalapeño on the side and they didn't do it. My mom can't eat jalapeño so she just didn't eat this roll. Couldn't ask for a new one because no one came by. Too much rice. Salmon Obsession $19 (Fresh salmon over spicy salmon tempura, crab meat, cream cheese, cucumber & avocado topped with orange tobiko, citrus mayo) - inside was dry. Too much rice. Asked for orange tobiko, citrus mayo on the side since my mom can't eat it and they forgot and never brought it. This was a bland roll with too much rice and the pieces of cream cheese, cucumber and avocado were so small you couldn't taste them. Special Spicy Tuna (5 pieces) $14 (Spicy tuna tempura, shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, asparagus, tempura crunch & tobiko wrapped in soy bean sheet, wasabi mayo and sweet soy) - $14 for 5 small pieces is ridiculous. Where's the flavor? It was flavorless and the pieces of asparagus and cream cheese were so small you couldn't taste them. Didn't even know they were there. Overall my family did not have a great experience here unfortunately. TLDR- rolls are flavorless with too much rice. They charge $1 for extra wasabi and pretty much everything else. Terrible service. Overpriced rolls.

The food was delicious and portion sizes were generous! I had the bulgogi and the sushi and maki box. I particularly enjoyed the house salad with the crispy potato crunches on top. I highly recommend coming here for an enjoyable lunch or dinner!

Went for Mother's Day and they decorated each table with flowers and a Mother's Day balloon. Ordered multiple rolls the sexy lady, crazy dragon and rainbow. Ratio of fish to rice was plentiful, fish was quite fresh and all the sauces and toppings were complimentary to the fish and not overpowering. Portion sizes were quite good as well. Price was what you would expect for quality fish. The star was the blue fin torro. The torro was buttery and melt in your mouth. The truffle oil added a nice umami flavor really raising the flavor of the tuna. There was also a nice hint of salt which punctuated the flavor. I will order this every time and not get tired of it. Ordered the don katsu for the kids and sadly it was very underwhelming. The breading was very very thin so there was not much of a crunch that you crave with don katsu. The pork was also very very dry. The sushi is definitely the star here and you won't be disappointed. Good quality sushi and ambiance. Will be back soon.

I came here on a Wednesday night before seeing a show at the Marriott Theater. I made reservations online so we were seated promptly as we got inside the place.I liked that the parking was easy since it was in a strip mall. The interior was neat and nice. It took awhile for someone to attend to our table, I had to get the attention of the hostess in order to at least get some menus. It took quite awhile again to put our orders in, and I mentioned to the server that we had to make it on time for a show. We ordered: EDAMAME, SPICY CRUNCH CRAB, and the 911 rolls. The rolls were ok, I was a tad disappointed that the sauce drizzled on top of the 911 roll was just a bottled hot sauce. The service was slow, I'll be honest. The place was not full when we got here. Our server gave me the wrong type of wine, twice. The bartender noticed that our server would just grab a glass of wine that he would pour, without checking which customer it was for. He served my glass of wine himself, to make sure that I got the right one.Overall, it was not a bad place to get sushi in the area. Maybe I'll try different rolls next time and hopefully, service will be more efficient and accurate.

We had a nice table towards the middle of the restaurant with a view of the kitchen. Two people in our party had been here previously and said food is great but service was so-so. Tonight, our service was excellent. Attentive but not interrupting. The chef came out and brought a few items on the house.We ordered various drinks, martinis, wine and beers. Two of us started off with Starfish Greens. I had no idea how big these salads are, so one could have fed the four of us as an appetizer. One in our party could not have shellfish. We decided to order something each and share them all. Two of us started off with something not on the menu. Salmon with caviar and quail egg, which was amazing. We also got Bulgoki Taco, which is Soft shell taco with marinated sliced rib eye, lettuce, cheese & guacamole.We then ordered rolls: Dragon Fire, Rainbow Roll, Crazy Dragon (did have shellfish so we kept that separate from the other rolls), Salmon Avacodo and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna. I felt the prices were very reasonable considering the quality and proportion. All in all, a great dinner and we will return. Worth the visit.

Ate here for dinner for the first time, and I cannot say enough good things about this place! I had called in advance to make sure they had vegan options, of which they had plenty (although I wish the items were marked vegan on the menu). The entire staff was super friendly, and our server was excellent. He kindly explained the ingredients in any dish I asked about before ordering.The presentation of each dish was beautiful, and I especially loved the decorative dry ice accompanying most dishes!I ordered the king veggie maki and a hot stone rice bowl with veggies and tofu. Everything was fresh and deliscious! The bowl also came with a salad and miso soup, which tasted great! (Sorry, I forgot to take photos of those items.)The other three people I ate dinner with were vegetarian and omnivores. Got takeout and absolutely delicious! I only like vegetarian sushi and their veggie combo with vegetable nigiri was creative and yummy. Avocado roll was packed with perfectly creamy avocado inside and out. Also got the tempura udon. Broth is simple and tasty, noodles served separately so it was easy to assemble at home. And tempura was perfect! With great unique veggies like a delicata squash. I can't wait to come and try a dine in meal.
