Soul Prime Chicago

Them drinks though!!! Babbyyyy!!!!! Delicious!! Bartender definitely did his thang. They were so refreshing and pretty. Our hostess greeted us with a beautiful smile. Got us seated pretty quickly even though we had no reservations. Our waitress was nice also. The music was a whole vibe! I literally stole every song and made me a new playlist lol. Food was delicious!!! And definitely don't need to ask for salt or pepper. The dip was different... never thought to add cheese to my greens but glad they made it a thing. I wouldn't make it at home but will gladly eat it whenever I come here. The seasoning on them short ribs... crazy good!!Everything we ordered was tasty... I would say halfway through eating I had to stop because all of it together was just too much salt going on. Next time we visit I'll definitely stick to one meal.. maybe it won't become overpowering.

Please note, I am writing this in the Lyft while going some place else to eat. Also, another warning, if you decide to make a reservation this establishment charges a $10pp fee which does NOT go towards your purchase. I've been to other establishments that have the same type of mandate but at the very least they put the deposit towards your food, again NOT HERE. So beware! Okay y'all, so I'm from out of town and expected so much more given what soul food goes for where I'm from. I knew when they told me they didn't have any soft drinks outside of Diet Coke, this visit was about to be a disaster and it went nothing but downhill from there. In the restaurant itself 50% bar and bar seating, 30% kitchen and bathroom, 20% dining room. This places "taxes" for everything. No sides are offered with the LIMITED entrees available. All mains are $20+ and all sides are $11. A 8oz can soda; which again was not available cost $3. They said they were waiting for a shipment coming the next day. For all that, honestly they could've ran to a market to stock up. All that was available in terms of a soft drink was Diet Coke. The other nonalcoholic drink options were at least $7 and all cocktails were $17. For me personally, I can't stomach paying $50+ for two thin pieces of catfish and two sides. Most soul food places I've visited in and out of town at least come with a meat or fish and two sides. It's not about the money, it's about the principle. My friend did order the $30 fried green tomatoes which she enjoyed, but they were a little too acidic for me, it was heavy on the vinegar. They are also heavy handed with the parsley on all dishes. So if that's not your thing, be sure to tell them no parsley. I so wanted to at least like if not love this place, but didn't. We even went out of our way to visit. I will say the owner and host were very kind. Cheers to a great time.

We got the short rib tacos and the truffle parmesan fries. The short rib was richly marinated. Service was great. We were checked up on consistently and our waitress was very sweet. We also got the chicken with the hot honey sauce. The chicken was very juicy and the golden fry added a great crunch. it was a bit empty when we came in but we also made reservations at 4:30. The AC was a bit distracting as it was a bit chillier w the air vent right above me but nothing to be too crazy about. I am not dying to come back but the food was solid and there were bigger portions. I do think the price was a littleeeee steep but overall, would recommend to others. Keep in mind they already add 20% no matter the party size but service was not an issue.

What we ate:* Honey Cornbread * Fried Green tomatoes * Honey Fried Chicken * Mac & Cheese * Collard Green Dip When Keith Lee says eat you say how much!! We went to Soul Prime to see what the fuss was about and got met with PIPING hot food, attentive service and absolute jams playing over the speaker!! Of special note is the hot sauce they serviced with the tomatoes and chicken, whatever they put in that they should bottle and sell it!!! Next time I may have skipped on the tomatoes as they lacked a little flavor for me but a hard run it back on everything else!! 3.5/5 rounded up to 4 !

I had dinner with a friend after work here! We sat at a table facing a mirror. The interior is cool! Low lighting with the upscale feel. Entrees were huge satisfying portions. My steak frites could've been enough for two people. The meat tasted really good when it was hot but then tasted alright once it cooled down. The tacos were really good & saucy, but a bit salty.

My experience with Soul Prime was overall soured by extremely poor service. I had the pork chop, peach lemonade refresher, and the short rib tacos. All were extremely good but the overall service and 20% gratuity makes Soul Prime a non-starter. We waited for 10 minutes before our server came over and immediately asked if we were ready to order without greeting us. He then came after we finished our taco appetizer and that was it until we got the check. He didn't come after we got our food, he didn't deliver our food, nor did he clear our plates. The service was so atrocious that I informed the manager, who then brought our to-go containers. She didn't adjust the automatic 20% tip which was $24. At this price point this level of service is unacceptable.

Warmth, welcome and comfort are three words that immediately come to mind when you enter Soul Prime. The service is impeccable and feels more like being hosted in someone's home.The space is filled with energy, ease and chatter. The food...is coma inducing. We got home and all sat sleepily and happily in the living room, too tired to do much more than chat quietly before settling into a restful slumber. You won't regret it.

Oh babyy this place made me feel some typa way. We got wine - perhaps not Soul Prime's vibe - and it came in those short thic clanky glasses :(

I highly recommend everything in the menu. The chef came it to meet us. She was so sweet. The bartender was so personable like we had known each other forever. But in top of the amazing guest experience from the host to the bill...the food and drinks were all on point. And the ambiance was absolutely beautiful. I don't use public restrooms. But their bathroom was clean and have at home vibes. No food on the floors, counter and table tops were clean. I just fell in love with this place. I can't wait to go back for my birthday in October!

Enjoyed my visit here. Used spot hero and found a nice spot in a parking garage a few doors down. I arrived in time for happy hour which had great food and liquor options. I did opt for the dinner menu however. And mannnnn, food was amazing!!! Pork chops were seasoned perfectly, Mac and cheese was excellent! Oh. i also had the fried green tomatoes as my appetizer. i believe the owner was also present and extremely welcoming which is always nice! The vibe was dope/chill with good music playing, I will definitely be back soon!
