Soul Food City

I came across Soul Food City on Yelp and decided to give it a try. While it was a bit hard to find due to its hidden location, the trip was well worth it.The staff were incredibly nice, guiding us through the menu and helping us decide on the two sides with two options meals. When handing us our food, they mentioned and apologized that the mac and cheese was not up to par and encouraged us to come back and try it again. He was right--the mac and cheese was overcooked, but the flavor was still there. I appreciate the honesty.The pork chop, catfish, and chicken wings were seasoned to perfection. The breading was light but crunchy so delicious I wanted to eat all the small crumbs off my plate. The candied yams were flavorful, and the best part for me was the banana pudding. It was the best banana pudding I have ever had. Overall, I had a great experience, and I'll definitely be back to give the mac and cheese another shot and eat more delicious southern food in SD.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICEI placed my order online as directed by the women who answered the phone at this establishment. The online order said my order will be ready at 4pm Myself & my spouse arrived at the location at 3:54pm My husband goes to the window for pickup the heavy set women at the women says I haven't even checked online orders.My husband moves to the side to wait for our order to be prepared she then says 'you don't have to stand there and wait in a rude tone. We waited an additional 30 minutes for her to come out the door no apology for her poor customer service or the delay. I watched her from my car hand my husband the bag with her eyes on the ground. Regardless of how the food tastes if you don't know how to conduct yourself you will not get another dime of my money and businesses like these make it heard to support another black business .

Great find in the Lincoln Park area! It's a little hard to find. I was looking for a store front, but it's just a walk-up window. There are 2 tables outside for seating.The staff is so friendly and was very helpful with the menu. There were sides that weren't on the menu, like the fried okra and french fries. We ended up ordering them as sides for the chicken wings. We also ordered the catfish with mac n cheese and collard greens. For dessert, we got the peach cobbler. Other desserts they have are banana cream pie, strawberry-banana cream pie, and chocolate cake. They all sounded good, but the peach cobbler was highly recommended. The cornbread muffin made it on the order too.All the food was delicious and perfectly seasoned! The catfish and chicken were juicy. The catfish tasted fresh and not too fishy. The mac n cheese and collard greens were the best out of the sides we got. Cornbread and peach cobbler were also very good. The cobbler wasn't too sweet, so I enjoyed it.I'm really glad I found this place on Yelp. I highly recommend giving them a try!

I could not find the restaurant. I had to call and get more specific directions. It is hidden in a corner behind the Jacob Center. The staff shared that they recently moved to this location. The counter is hard to find and lighting is not good at night. This is a take out counter. They do not have seating. Thought there is a table and bench out front.Once I found the place, the young lady at the counter was friendly and welcoming. I order the pork chops dinner with macaroni and cheese. They were out of green beans, so I got cole slaw. She tried to get me to get the greens. I told her I was picky about greens. She said they were vegan greens. I said, even worse. She offered me greens to try. I tasted the greens and was blown away. THE GREENS ARE THE BOMB!!! I recommend this soul food counter. I would love it if they had a eat in location.

The Coustmer service was great! The food was amazing the portion is worth the price I got catfish yams and Mac and cheese. The flavor was so good!! My girlfriend got the 1/2IB beer battered shrimp rice and gravy and Mac and cheese I tasted the shrimp on her plate it's so good!!!

Soul Food City is located inside the Barrio Food Hub. I ordered the fried catfish, which comes with two sides. I chose the mac n cheese and fries! I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I also got the green beans, collard greens, and yams as well.Everything was fresh and made to order. The food is so flavorful! I'm not a fan of veggies, but all of it was so tasty and delicious! They even have some unique chips and drinks, but the peach soda was not for me haha. For dessert, pudding, peach cobbler, or chocolate cake. I ended up choosing the cake, which was moist and not too sweet! Overall, a great place to get some southern comfort food!

First time trying this place after checking out the reviews I ordered the catfish witch was a 10/10 mac&cheese 9/10 greens 8/10 my biggest disappointment was the peach cobbler they gave it to me cold right from the fridge. I'm like really who eats cold cobbler atleast warm it up for me geez.

Loved my wing-ding dinner! Loved saying "wing-ding"! Loved ordering "wing-ding dinner for Dina"! I ordered in person, for carry out. My wing-dings were deep fried fresh, and they were dee-licious! The wing to ding ratio was just right, and they stayed nice and crispy an hour later, when I had the chance to eat. All the ding was still there.My 2 sides were mac & cheese and collard greens, loved them both, especially the collards, the texture was soft, but not mushy, and there was plenty of juice, but not soupy. The tanginess really woke up the taste buds. My food was just fabulous, Granny's peach cobbler for dessert sealed the deal, I've decided to move to Soul Food City!

The place was hard to find for one. got home to find that they used what I think is instant mashed potatoes. They were very dry, and the gravy on top was very salty. Same with the rice/gravy. The rice was hard and covered in gravy. The wings I had to put in my air fryer, they were sort of rubbery, and hard to pull apart. Some parts of the wings still looked raw. I hate spending money on bad food.

The sides are immaculate *chef's kiss* Cornbread, yams, and MAC N CHEESE are no joke hella bomb!!! this small business deserves more attention
