Truthfully I prefer the all you can eat style Korean BBQ. But this place was open and Manna was undergoing renovation so here's my take: Service was great. No problem getting seating even late Thursday. Parking is always rough in this area so do what you can. Not their fault. Atmosphere was fine. You're gonna get smoke in your clothes and hair so dress accordingly. The food was very tasty. You can cook it yourself (if you order BBQ) or they can help you cook it. They also offer standard fare that are not BBQ. But since we wanted BBQ we opted for the Galbi ribs BBQ and wow there's like 3 or 4 pounds of meat. It's for 2-3 people but the portions are very big here so you're probably taking leftovers. Nice Ban Chan appetizers, they were mediocre. Kimchi recipe is a little sour for my taste. Soondabu tofu stew was tasty and very very spicy with tons of gochugaru flakes all stirred up in it. The Galbi was the best part, worth the extra dollars for the upgrade. The other meats were pretty good too. I prefer the marinated meat. The pork was cut in an interesting way but quite flavorless which is why there is dipping sauce and salt. Overall the flavors were quite good, but if I'm honest I might head to an all you can eat place next time I'm in Kearny Mesa because I prefer the diversity. But overall I like this place. I would come back to try the lunch specials for sure.

This has to be my new favorite Korean BBQ! They have so much more than Korean BBQ though.. they've got authentic high quality Korean dishes that were absolutely delicious! We ordered the prime pork belly and prime brisket as well as a side of jjajamgmyun and the cold broth black noodles. The problem belly and beef brisket was such great quality! And the jjajamgmyun was the best I ever had with pieces of pork and onions in it. It usually comes with cucumbers but this one did not. And the cold broth noodles were surprisingly delicious! I would go back just for the cold noodles! The food was all so good!! But the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the service. When we started ordering, we knew what we wanted. We have been to many kbbqs and have also been to Korea so we are familiar with the culinary of Korea. We started to order our beef and pork belly and then as we were ordering the side the woman taking our order snatched the menu and turned it around and was like "you want the combo" and I was kind of taken back.. I said what? And she said, the combo comes with three meats and cheese corn steamed eggs and started naming these things that we did not want more did we order.. I looked at my wife and we shared this awkward star because we did not want cheese corn and it was kind of awkward that she was pushing it on us in such an aggressive way to turn the menu in my hand.. I politely told her no thank you and we continued to order. Then when we were done I asked for to go containers for our left overs and she brought two along with the check. Here's where things got super uncomfortable for us. In the check we had been charged for the to go containers and I did not notice until after my card was charged. So I had asked for a third to go box and she said okay and never brought it. When I looked at the check I realized why.. charging for to go containers??? Are we serious? We wouldn't have had an issue with it if they had told us before hand, just felt like a sneaky charge. Can someone tell me if they are picking up a to go order if they are being charged for the containers? Also, our total was less than what it would have been if we had gotten the combo she was pushing on us. So that wasn't so nice..

As someplace who can't eat very much at a time, I actually prefer this type of kbbq over the ayce joints. No guilt over wasting anything when too full, because we can bring home leftovers Songhak is located on Convoy in one of the little strip malls where parking is a challenge. Totally worth it though. It's such a clean, bright spacious restaurant and they really take care of you and make you feel at home. We know they are known for their intestines bbq, but we were craving beef belly so we got the Combo 1 which has prime brisket, wagyu beef belly, and prime pork jowls. It came with steamed egg, corn cheese & kimchi stew too. We also liked that for their sides they gave us a big plate of marinated onions and bean sprouts along with kimchi and fish cakes. The quality of meats was superb! We added the option to get cheesy fried rice at the end and it was so perfectly satisfying. We also got the cold noodles since we've been craving those every single day this summer. We loved the version here.Definitely coming back for more!

After a long day of errand running and a quick trip to the aquarium with the kiddo, my husband and I were looking to grab a bite to eat for lunch. The previous night I had a craving for Korean BBQ and had done quite a bit of Yelping to find our next spot to try. SongHak popped up and based on the reviews and photos it intrigued me. I also love that the Convoy St location serves as a hotspot for Asian cuisine and tastes - Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. restaurants line this neighborhood and you can't go wrong. So, for today I chose SongHak for us to try and I am so glad we did! They were re-doing their asphalt so the parking lot was closed when we arrived (it has since reopened), but we just parked across the way and made the quick walk. For a Tuesday afternoon it was empty for the exception of one couple dining - which meant we were seated right away. There are a few different ways you can order - simply by dishes of your choice which are prepared in the kitchen or BBQ where you enjoy the meats being cooked at your table. We, of course, opted for their BBQ and chose their Prime Combo 1 which serves 2 people and comprised of Prime Wagyu Beef Belly, Pork Belly, and Pork Jowl. All combos come with an assortment including: + a corn cheese plate (think roasted corn with melted cheese served on a sizzling cast iron - my 3 year old daughter LOVED this!)+ steamed egg pot (not my favorite - only because I'm not big on egg dishes.)+ and a choice of soybean paste stew or kimchi stew - we opted for their kimchi stew which was very good. Along with the BBQ combo we had an assortment of sides which included: +kimchi+ potato salad+ marinated white onion+ marinated soybeans+ a dish with salt/seasonings+ a dish with a yummy dipping sauce for your meat (I wish I knew what it was called!)+pickled diakon+ marinated noodlesObviously, this combo comes with quite the accoutrements and was definitely enough to fill our bellies without feeling stuffed. Almost everything came out right away and our server was very kind. Here, she commanded the BBQ (I've dined at various Korean BBQ spots and everywhere they do it differently), which I didn't mind. Even though we knew what to do, she very quickly got everything cooking. From time to time I'd take the tongs and sift things around - but I think it's a sign of attentiveness that she would come over and assist as needed...I wasn't offended. I suppose if you'd prefer to cook it yourself you can just mention that to them and I'm sure they'd be fine with that (so don't count this place out just based on those reviews).Overall, the food was fantastic and the service was great. It was just us and it appeared only 1 woman running the front, which made service easy. We would definitely dine again! Thank you for taking such great care of us and reminding us why we love living in San Diego so much!

Fun experience and plenty of food!! We had a lot of fun barbecuing our own meat and appreciated the server coming by to guide us and do some stuff for us to make sure things are cooked right. There are a lot of combos to choose from to feed people, we chose #3 combo that was suggested for 2-3 people and it was WAY more than enough for us four and we brought home leftovers. They're also served with delicious small dishes that fill you up besides the meat. We enjoyed our time. We also didn't reserve a spot and the place was near empty around 5:30 on a Saturday (busy toward when we were leaving around 6:30).

2.5 stars. Truly the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a restaurant, but I felt like 2 stars was too harsh because they were obviously understaffed. Came here with my friend on a Saturday night. We managed to find parking in the tiny lot out front. Got seated immediately, but it took at least 20 minutes for someone to take our order. The meats and sides we ordered were fine, and I don't mind waiting but it's like none of the staff had the night before. Multiple people kept promising they would bring us things like rice, extra plate, to-go box, sesame oil... but those things never showed up, even when we reminded them multiple times. Saw the same thing happen to other tables, too.The only upside was that there wasn't a wait around 7:00 when we arrived. Got lucky! But honestly it was stressful to be amidst the mass chaos in this tiny place. We didn't need to be there for 2 hours. With so many other KBBQ restaurants in this neighborhood, I can't justify coming to SongHak again, but hopefully YOU have a good experience here!

I love the smell of K BBQ. It sticks on you and your clothes for the rest of the day, but freshly griling your own meats is just unbeatable. SongHak is a quality addition to the Convoy line-up. The pros: -Clean. The restaurant felt very clean and orderly. -Lots of premium meat options-Good additional dishes, like the kimchi fried rice (one of my favorites)The cons (or just really one):-Super expensive! This isn'y ayce, so you know you're getting better quality, but the price is still pretty hard to justify for the quantity of food.

Song Hak KBBQ is an absolute gem! Don't let the fact that it's not an all-you-can-eat KBBQ spot deter you - their Songhak Combos offer incredible value and variety. We started with the Buchu pancake, a Korean pancake filled with chives. Paired with the red dipping sauce, it's a match made in heaven! The texture is perfectly crispy, and we couldn't get enough of it.For our entrees, we opted for the Medium Songhak Combo ($60.99 and perfect for 2 people), which came with three types of meat, corn cheese, steamed egg, and our choice of soybean paste or kimchi stew. We went for the large intestine (11/10 recommended!), prime pork belly, and prime pork jowl. Each meat was expertly prepared and packed with flavor. The sides were also top-notch, with the steamed egg stealing the show. I'm a tough critic when it comes to steamed eggs, but this one was spot on! The corn cheese and kimchi stew were also delicious. The meats were truly impressive. The large intestine was a game-changer - its "low fat powerhouse" description is no exaggeration. It's a must-try for anyone looking to mix things up. The prime pork belly was also a standout. We rounded out our meal with two sides of rice and a bowl of Jja jang myun (Korean Chinese black bean noodle). It was the perfect accompaniment to our meats. To drink, we enjoyed strawberry flavored soju and Cass beer - a match made in heaven! Overall, our experience at Song Hak KBBQ exceeded our expectations. The service was excellent, and we can't wait to return with a larger group to share this gem with friends.**Pro Tips:*** Arrive before 5pm to avoid parking woes.* Take advantage of lunch specials (Mon-Thurs, 11:30am-3pm) for discounted prices on select menu items.* Don't miss the large intestine - it's a hidden gem!

We were in the mood for some kbbq and went here for dinner tonight. It was empty when we arrived, but picked up while we were dining. We got our usual- bulgolgi, brisket, and the galbi meal (comes with kimchi soup). Service was friendly and quick. Our meats were delicious and server helped us cook as well. The kimchi was particularly good tonight! Too bad I forgot to get the fried rice at the end!
