Driving by with offspring, Ronnies Cafe was closed on Sunday, and Sofia's Mexican Food was just opening so it was a no brainer.Had eaten here before when it was Don Rubens. Menu looked similar as did the beautiful murals. Offspring ordered a cheese burger & fries and I ordered a chorizo and egg burrito. We shared a large cheese crisp No hamburger buns available so they offered toast which was fine. I personally don't go to a Mexican Food Restaurant for a burger and fries but it looked good and offspring enjoyed it Chips and salsa were good as was the cheese crisp. The chorizo and egg burrito was tasty and ok. Service was good. Specialty here is seafood and previously had salmon tacos. Would score food about a 3 based upon what I ordered. Hard to judge a restaurant based upon a chorizo egg burrito on one visit. Missing my old Burrito Shack that recently closed in Mesa.I will be back to try some fish or shrimp tacos. Still on my list.

We've gone back a few times to Sofia's and it feels like the quality has diminished. Cold food (including cold spinach cheese dip and tacos) at our last visit. The prices have also increased slightly, making the quality to price ratio not as worth it to us. It's still okay, but no longer in our go to rotation.

I found myself close by Sofia's at lunchtime. Surprised it had changed hands. Found parking and found Ronnie's next door to be full up. Went in and found Sofia's was almost empty. It did get much busier by the time I was done. Was greeted as I got through the door and was assured the food and service had not changed, just the name. From what I remember from the 8-10 years since I had last eaten there she was correct. Food and service were delivered as expected.

We LOVED this place when it was Don Rubin's!!! But once Sophia bought it, not only was the service poor, but the food is terrible. Now I know you should try things three times and we did, but it is subpar to what it was for years before. Do not get Albania soup. The portions are small, The cost is high, and the meatballs are literally rubber. I am so, so disappointed because it's so close to my house and we truly used to love it before.

Like so many others have stated, we loved this place as Don Ruben's and for the first few months of the new ownership it was fine, but our last few visits have been worse and worse. Tonight. I tried to place a pick up order, but the phone was disconnected. So I drove over, and on a Saturday night it was nearly empty. I was shocked because a few years ago, it would have been packed. I ordered our food, and took it home to enjoy. It was terrible. Meager servings of sub par ingredients, so salty and overcooked. This will be our last visit to Sofia's and I'm so sad to see a decades long business success fail under new ownership. As far as the service goes, there is no longer a hostess, it appears, and the wait staff was doing that as well as getting orders out to tables. Waiter was polite and helpful, but that can't make up for the quality of food.

Delicious food, great customer service and joyful environment. The flavors are definitely authentic and true the Mexican tradition. I enjoyed every single bit full of bold flavorful tastes. The guacamole was perfectly blended, not too salty not too bland. And the caramel flan although I could taste the cinnamon I didn't think it was overpowering so it was delicious enough to enjoy. Definitely the most authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time.

Today I spent 25 minutes trying to call to place an order and and all I got was voicemail full NO one would answer, causing us to order from Mi Pueblo at Metrocenter for a dinner for 3 which they answered my cal the first time and had my order ready for pickup in 20 minutes. Now I never had that problem under the old owners and we frequented the restaurant for years. The lack of the new owners efficiency, Customer Service is a disappointment and my family will be frequenting other restaurants in the area and NOT this one.

I don't typically leave reviews, especially reviews that show an establishment in a negative light. Hopefully the new owners of Sophia's will take these reviews into consideration. When this place was Don Rubens, the staff and service quality were topnotch. There was a dedicated person (sometimes two), at the front desk, answering phones, handling take out, and fielding incoming customers. In the dining area, there was an older gentleman that ran a super tight ship, and no staff left tables unattended. On a Friday night, you were lucky to get a spot in the parking lot at DR. We were able to park right up front, with available spaces everywhere.Don Rubens was packed for a reason. Just purchasing DR along with their menu will not save the restaurant without quality service and experience. Far too often, we see great businesses flail due to new owners believing they can skimp on quality while keeping a loyal customer base. It's sad, because Don Rubens was such a great establishment.
