We have now tried Smoque Steak for both brunch and dinner and overall, based on the dishes we have tried, I think it is a solid 4 stars. Some dishes are good, while some could use a little bit of improvement. I'll start with my brunch review. I came here with friends and we ordered a few things to try. The best thing for brunch was the lobster benedict. The lobster was perfectly cooked and I loved the pairing with the cheddar scallion biscuit. The second best thing was the shrimp and grits. I loved the flavor and the spice. The third best thing is unfortunately no longer on the menu and that was a berry french toast with a lemon sauce. Sadly, our least favorite was surprisingly the steak and eggs. For being a steak house, the steak was surprisingly underseasoned. Now for dinner. We ordered the bone-in ribeye, shrimp pasta, a side of rosemary gratin potatoes and the chocolate cake for dessert. The shrimp pasta was probably our favorite because of the spicy, buttery flavor. The steak for dinner was seasoned, but we couldn't figure out why it was so tough and chewy despite being perfectly medium well. The potatoes were addicting and I highly recommend this side. The chocolate cake was good. If you don't like coconut, then you may want to avoid it, but we loved the toasted coconut!Overall, we would be back but hoping the steak gets better.

Absolutely amazing this place did not disappoint!! I went with my friend Rachel to check this place out and everything from start to finish was delicious . The flavor in the smoked meat made the steak extremely tender. Even the little salad that they put on the plate had the tastiest dressing on it. All of the sides were very well paired with our meal as well. On the pricey side, but it was worth it.

Stopped by for dinner on a weekday for the first time. Elegant and large dining space. I started with the Lion's Tail cocktail, which was great. The lime is a great complement to bourbon. We didn't order any appetizers. For my entree I ordered the 16oz ribeye cooked perfect pink. This was one of the best steaks I've ever ate! First of all it's a massive hunk of meat and had the perfect amount of fat. You can order enhancements like red wine reduction, butters, etc., but I didn't feel like I was missing out. For the table we shared sides of rosemary gratin potatoes, broccolini, and brussels sprouts. My favorite were the brussels with the cider glaze and bacon and the gratin potatoes. Overall, it was a great dinner with friendly service. This is definitely one of my new favorite steak restaurants in the city.

Overall, impressive. As a pescatarian, steak houses aren't usually my first choice of dining establishment but I enjoyed Smoque Steak. We dined here with friends and I was immediately taken with the interior. It has a modern industrial feel, a departure from the dark, traditional vibe of many steakhouses. I started with the Smoqued Pineapple drink and husband the Manhattan. A lot of their classic cocktails have a twist in them. The drink read booked as a blend of sweet and spicy. It was well balanced, but I couldn't call it spicy. Husband found his Manhattan a little bland. We split the summer salad and the crab cake to start, both were excellent. The meat eaters ordered different cuts of beef for their main, all were pleased. I ordered the Lobster Grits, which is technically an appetizer as my main. I was a little surprised they didn't have cuts of fish, but there were a few pescatarian dishes. The dish was very tasty, but I would've liked to have seen the grits come out smoother. If you've had the grits at Luella's you know what I mean. We also ordered the carrots and mashed potatoes as sides. The potatoes were excellent, creamy, buttery and a little salty. The carrots were good too, but I wasn't picking up the chipotle flavor. Overall, we were happy with the experience and would come back.

We love this spot! With so many steakhouses in Chicago, this one stands out for its unique offerings and reasonable prices. On this occasion, we started with their fantastic poutine. This is by far the best in the city and the marrow gravy is addictive. We also got the bread and oil which was a great. The steaks were fantastic as well. I had the bone-in ribeye and my wife had the filet. Both were perfectly cooked and their smokey flavor made them like no others. Finally, a shout out to the two bartenders and Barry - all three were super attentive, conversational and all around super friendly. Could not have had a better meal!

First time at Smoque Steak as invited to dine in the Fall Feast, 6 course tasting menu perfectly prepared and paired with wine flights. The entire experience lasted around 2 hours, I was not able to finish all the dishes and was happy to hear you can take what you want home (food only). There is plenty of parking all along the street and a private lot. Highly recommend Smoque Steak and you can purchase raw steaks too.

Visited again. Loved it! Consistently excellent! We loved visiting with a larger party and trying nearly everything on the menu. My favorite is still the THE HANGER STEAK - 10 oz pan-seared. It's so full of flavor. Just perfect.

We came here for a birthday dinner and were so pleasantly surprised by it! It is by far one of the best steakhouse experiences we've been to and here's why:- Sous vide: the steaks are done sous vibe which made them truly perfect texturally. It was a bonus for heathens like my husband who like their steaks well done to have a well done steak that was juicy and perfect all the way through- Sides & accompaniments: The potato gratin and brussel sprouts were to die for! Also loved the option of adding a confit egg and other unique sauces to the steak. Would come back just to try out all them. - Price: With the overall increases across the board in restaurants, we felt the prices were exceedingly fair. It truly made the dining experience feel that much more rewarding, because we were able to enjoy dinner and not feel like we were paying an arm and a leg. It's pretty easy to pay $200 before tip at other nice steakhouses just for two steaks and two sides! Overall, great service, great food. We will be back for sure!

Came here to celebrate my friends birthday. The service was on point, very attentive and professional. The interior is swanky without being stuffy or uncomfortable.Started off with the Brie Fondue (creamy brie, sauteed mushrooms, sherry, spinach, served with grilled crostini). Even though my friend is not a huge fan of mushrooms he said they were not strong in flavor and the dish was one of the best he has had. I agree. Then I had the NY Strip with garlic mashed potato. The meat was succulent and well flavored, the mashed potatoes extremely smooth and flavorful. All in all I really enjoyed my meal at Smoque and will definitely be back next time I am in the area.

The bar that isn't. We will probably give Smoque another chance, but not at the bar. We often enjoy dining at a bar, and we tried that at Smoque because we walked in on a Saturday evening without a reservation. Unfortunately, the bar lacks real vibe and is just overflow seating for those waiting for their reservations. Despite a strong cocktail menu that includes many classics, drinks are seemingly not made at the bar. My Manhattan was tapped from a spigot, hardly craft. And my wife's Martini, albeit tasty, came from somewhere distant in back. There was not a shaker in sight and none heard, contributing to the lack of any legitimacy and vibe in the bar. Indeed, the "bar" isn't set up as such and lacks glassware or liquor. Entrees were solid, with a nice steak frites and an interesting take on a NY strip. Sides of carrots and mushrooms were done well. But we couldn't ignore our disappointment at the bar, so we skipped wine and dessert and left early and underwhelmed. Overall, the food showed enough promise to warrant a possible return, but if dining at the bar is our only option, we won't bother.
