The hype is what it is- for a reason. This place is legit delicious and very accommodating for a gluten allergic person like myself. The beef spare rib was perfect and he prolly had the best pulled pork I've ever tried. I'll need to order that next time. Only in Ballard on Friday nights at Urban Family. Follow the Facebook page for updates and daily menus. Will definitely be back again. Finally decent barbecue in Seattle.

Had the pork and beans last evening when they were at Rooftop brewing. Excellent pulled pork and the overall dish was very well done with a mustard sauce and breadcrumbs for texture. I spoke with the owner and he has a custom smoker from Texas and uses cherry wood. Can't wait to try more of his creations!

YEEESSSSS!!!! Always on the hunt for good bbq and it is hard to find out here. This is as good as we've had in Georgia, S. Carolina, and Texas. We got the pork belly tacos and brisket sandwich to share. Should have gotten our own. The meat is melt in your mouth. (Mic drop) oh wait.... the sauces are phenomenal, the pickles are just right, and the vessels stand on their own. The brisket was on a brioche, poppyseed bun that soaked up the mustard bbq sauce and meat nectar. The tortillas for the pork belly were handmade. If you have the chance... get here. If you don't have the chance... make one.

I'd been eyeing this place for a little while - since it first turned up on the calendar for my local taphouse. I finally made it over tonight, and I got the tri-tip along with mac and cheese and pickled carrots. Let's just say that it was out of this world. I took one bite and was like, Dang, I gotta get my Instagram picture ...Well, that would require me to stop eating it. I couldn't. It was that damn good. The guy who took my order was great and ensured that I was able to walk it back to my apartment without too much of a mess. The meat was tender and deliciously smoked, the mac and cheese was good, and the pickled carrots were not at all what I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing! I'm not an expert on BBQ by any means, but I will say that when he cut the brisket to give me my tri-tip, I thought of an episode of The Chef Show on Netflix when they went down to Texas and talked about the BBQ experience.A good experience!

The ribs were the star although the sides were delish too! We ordered from a pit set up outside our local brewpub Broadview Tap house. All very flavorful, well smoked and tender as can be; meat fell of the bones. As my son said (with sauce smeared on his face and fingers), it was "bone suckin good!"

Finally. Good BBQ in WA State!I knew I was on the right track because the owner was wearing a Franklin Barbecue shirt when I walked up. Franklin Barbecue is a legend that is "serving the best barbecue in the known universe," according to Texas Monthly. And the young owner/chef of the relatively new Smokestack Lightning BBQ is a Franklin disciple. But he's more than that. He has cooking experience in some of the best Seattle area restaurants, and he knows how to cook. His love for BBQ and all food is evident in both the name of the place (see book and TV show) and the excellent food.Smokestack Lightning is all about BBQ without shortcuts and high quality ingredients. The smoker is an excellent Lone Star Grillz trailer pit made in Willis, TX. The crew drove to Willis to pick it up and drive it back to Seattle. The brisket is high quality Painted Hills Natural Beef from Oregon. Other ingredients are also locally sourced, with a similar eye to quality that plays a big role in final taste. And that brisket? Juicy, succulent, and mildly smoky melt-in-your-mouth goodness--just as brisket should be. This is a BBQ trailer that moves around, and there are always little twists on the menu for the day. On the day I went, the brisket was dressed up with some amazing cider-braised smoked cabbage and a tangy golden BBQ sauce (all made in house). These were great accompaniments that paired well with the brisket (though the brisket was superb by itself), adding a hint of a reuben sandwich flair to the plate. The macaroni salad was superbly executed, as was the Texas-German style potato salad (with the mustard toned down just a little).Everything I had here was good, but I need to return (several times) to try some of the other items. They all look amazing. I didn't get to take too many photos, so I borrowed some from Smokestack Lightning's Instagram feed to flesh out the images here a bit. You'll have to find where the truck is going to be. Seattle Food Truck .com has the calendar, and the Facebook page for Smokestack Lightning also has notices about locations (but often late in the game). I will be back. Soon. I just wish they would try a few Eastside locations too.

Very tasty BBQ! Truly Good BBQ In Seattle is hard to find and this is cooked well and done right. Something I appreciate is that they do the sides well too which is rare. The beans, grits and desert were excellent. The mustard sauce grew on me, but I wish it came on the side instead of on top.I almost gotta take away a star for that Pillsbury canned "biscuit" though. Honestly, I'd rather not have a biscuit on my plate than suffer through that again. Your food is too good and that biscuit just doesn't stand up to it.With all that being said, you can keep the extra star because we are very happy and will be returning & that's coming from a picky bunch who is accustomed to real southern BBQ!

One of the best BBQ spots in Seattle. I have a mild addiction to the burnt ends with cheesy grits/bbq baked beans. It's always fresh as if he timed it to be done when you order it, which is tough to do with slow smoked BBQ. If you like BBQ then do yourself a favor and get after Smokestack. You won't be disappointed
