Skalka was started in late 2019 by 2 immigrants from Georgia and Russia with goals of bringing Eastern European food to Seattle. Prior to the pandemic, they served a variety of dishes, but soon converted to just serving khachapuri - a bread boat filled with cheese and yummy goodness. This dish is a staple in Georgia and they definitely pour their heart into perfecting this dish for the Seattle community. Each khachapuri is made to order and they hand make their dough in multiple batches throughout the day (nothing frozen!). If the dough is ready, it can take about 15 minutes to make your khachapuri once you order. However on more busy days - it can take about 30 minutes from start to finish. During my visit, I got the chicken & stroganoff boat. I personally loved the chicken because it had tomatoes in the filing. My boyfriend liked the stroganoff that had delicious shredded beef and mushroom filling. The portions were huge and can easily be shared between 2 people. This spot is close to the Seattle waterfront and has a good amount of street parking around it. There are also a ton of seats inside the restaurant, perfect for hanging out with friends and family!

We were in town this last weekend with Family, and ventured out for breakfast. I am not the one who chose this spot, and frankly, probably would not have based on pictures. Upon walking in, I was a little annoyed at the non existing staffed counter. You order your food by a touch screen. Which seems to me, if you need something to be specific, it can't be. You can't tell a touch screen, what you can tell a human. Not to mention, you are taking away from the interaction with humans, and their jobs. I had a hard time deciding what to order, because the menu didn't look appealing. So I went with the chicken, no egg. Since covid, I have a hard time eating them, and the egg on top really made it look less appetizing. My guy I think is the only one who really thought it was good. Not sure what he ordered. Another had the stroganoff, and like I said, mine was the chicken. It was just okay. I can't see me running back here ever again. The food was weird, and I'm not impressed with the self serve diner idea.

We arrived promptly at 9 when they opened on Sunday and they were ready. It was self order via computer, so we ordered our 2 adjarulis to get a solid meal in before our party of 5 flew out. The sign said 15 minutes, and our boxes were set out at 9:15 on the dot. They come in pizza boxes, and they are heavy. The best thing to say is it is as good as advertised: soft crust that is perfect for dipping and scooping the cheesy, buttery, egg yolky amazingness. It is rich, and dense, one boat can feed multiple people, and probably would have been enough. It is kid friendly, all three of our kids loved it. In spite of all the butter and cheese, the bread isn't soggy which is shocking. This place is delicious, and was the perfect way to stuff our faces one last time in Seattle before heading home.

Nestled on the outskirts of Pikes Place in Seattle, Skalka offers a delightful culinary experience with a scenic backdrop that complements its unique approach to dining. The restaurant's commitment to delicious food and an innovative online ordering system makes it a standout in the bustling Seattle food scene. One of the notable features of Skalka is its picturesque location, providing a charming escape from the urban hustle. The ambiance is perfect for those seeking a break from the Pike's Place touristy noise.Skalka takes an unconventional approach to ordering, with the entire process conducted online. While this may be a novel concept, it does streamline the ordering process, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. However, this approach might not suit everyone, especially those who prefer a more traditional experience with face-to-face interaction. The menu at Skalka boasts a variety of delectable options, showcasing a fusion of flavors that cater to diverse palates. The Chicken Boat seemed a bit overwhelming and a bit to ummm mushy. In hindsight, opting for the Cheese Boat alone might have been a wiser choice, as it allowed the individual ingredients to shine without the slight overcrowding observed in the Chicken Boat. While the food at Skalka is undoubtedly a highlight, the service could use a friendlier touch. The online ordering system, while efficient, lacks the personal interaction that many patrons seek in a dining experience. A bit more warmth and engagement from the staff could elevate the overall satisfaction for guests. If the restaurant could enhance its service with a more personable touch, it would undoubtedly secure its place as a must-visit destination on the outskirts of Pikes Place in Seattle.

I absolutely loved it.I got the adjaruli which is a sort of bread bowl with soft, curdy cheese, fresh melted butter, and an egg yolk. It was so damn good. The bread was very soft and fresh. They say all of their orders are cooked fresh by hand and I believe them. Freshly baked bread is a wonderful thing. It had a nice chew to it also.To eat it you break off pieces of bread and dunk it in the cheese, butter, egg yolk mixture. It's so much fun. The mixture is good. Nicely salted. Definitely coats your mouth but it isn't too much. Pretty creamy and luxurious.I enjoyed the novelty of this dish too. It's not the sort of thing where there are complex flavors going around. More of a comfort food the way mac n cheese or grilled cheese is. But sometimes that is just perfect. I would go out of my way to return to Skalka if I lived in Seattle (and had a faster metabolism).

My family have been a big fan of cheese boats ever since moving to Seatlle! On average, we go to Skalka once every two weeks. The food quality has been consistently great even though the portion was a little shrinking due to inflation. However tbh, we kind of love the current portion more. As the size was HUGE at our first visit in 2022, but we could not control ourselves from finishing everything lol. We will continue with going to Skalka, as it is offering the unique and delicious boat that is hard find anywhere else!

Skalka is one of my favorite places for breakfast in Seattle. This Georgian Restaurant offers only 5 items on the menu but they do it so well. I always get the classic Adjaruli, a bread boat that is bound to satisfy anyone who loves bread, cheese, and eggs. The food came out in about 10 minutes, so the service was good. They have a small dining area and a very clean bathroom. Would definitely recommend dining in.

So rich, but so delicious! On a recent trip to Seattle we stopped in for breakfast. I came across this place on Yelp, and we have loved the khachapuri at a restaurant near home, so had to give this place a try. I can say definitively - this was so much better! We ordered the original - cheesy buttery goodness, and then also ordered the one with bacon, red beans, and banana peppers. I have to say that the original is perfection, and definitely my favorite. It was nice to try the one with bacon as well though, which was also delicious, and having a bite with the tangy banana peppers cut through some of the richness of the original. Don't ask for a knife - they don't have them. Rip off bits of bread, stir your egg yolk in with the cheesy goodness, and continue to rip, dip, and enjoy. One per person was definitely too much, so I suggest coming with a few people so you can share a couple of them for some variety (or just come super hungry and have your own, lol). The restaurant itself was clean and bright, very cute with minimal decor. You order at a tablet on the counter, and they call you to come and get it when it is ready, so don't expect a lot of service. It was a quick walk from where we were staying near Pike's Place Market. We definitely hope to come back on a future trip.

Absolutely delicious and made the perfect brunch! I have had this spot on my list for a long time and was excited to come here while on a date with my husband before checking out the Seattle Aquarium. It's a really clean and open cafe. We ordered at the self order kiosk. I got the chicken and my husband got the stroganoff. Both were so tasty. The bread is perfection and everything was very flavorful. Overall, really enjoyed this spot and it's high on my recommendation list for family and friends to try!

My friends and I came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and had a great time! We luckily didn't have to wait to find a seat, but it definitely got busier on our way out. Street parking is available in the area, but there is a decent sized paid parking lot nearby. We ended up all getting different types, but I ordered the chicken. The food is very flavorful, and it was a great experience trying this cuisine for the first time.Service was great and the staff were patient while we tried to decide what to order. You'll order at the front, and they'll give you a number they'll call later to pick up your food. When you're done, they ask you to throw it all away. They have a good-sized pizza-style box if you have leftovers you want to take home. This is a great restaurant I'll definitely be coming back to when in the area! Don't forget to check in through the Yelp app for a free coffee!
